- From my poll asking my subscribers what you'd like to hear next, both the "something that ROCKS" and "something weird and obscure" were chosen, so I think this one fits the bill for both of those!
Definitely not the best "Alien" franchise game, and not from the best "Alien" movie, but hey, this is a really cool song!!!! I'm not sure how I even stumbled upon it since I've never played the game and it's by the infamously bad LJN group, but the song is so cool! This song on the NES has this really wooly sound and I wanted to make sure my cover didn't sound too polite. But I hope I didn't go overboard lol
I dusted off the old Korg Volca FM2 for the main lead on this one and really want to use it more. Volcas get a bad rap for looking like a VHS tape and having those weird sequencers but they almost always sound great and do what they're setting out to do! I also used the trusty Microfreak for some of the layered leads and the "scary" noises and it never ceases to find its way into my covers.
I also used some "new to me" softsynths on this one, with the very popular (and free!) Vital wavetable synth for the noisy arpeggio at the end and the TAL-Noisemaker for all the bass sounds. I really like using Synth 1 but I feel like everything I do with it sounds the same, so I wisely chose to switch it up and I really like the results I got!
Thanks for checking this one out and I hope you like it as much as I did putting it together! And here's hoping the new Alien "Romulus" movie is going to be good!
