"To The East, Blackwards" is an unheralded Hip-Hop classic and Brother J. went Beast Mode on that album. That's why I still bump that album to this day!
You people must have never listened to his lyrics on dark sun riders, hes not gonna come off the head with senseless phrases and poetic punchlines. He isnt a freestyler, he is an artist, his lyrics are crafted, written down, poured over and thought about, he never claimed to be a freestyle artist. So give tnhe guy a fucking break, he's been at it for at least since 1986, thats a long fucking time..
for the negative comments. he a poet who spits conscious lyrics. positive messages. he's not about battle and taking ppl out. bro is my age or a Lil older. he keeping black pride alive
Dope. LOVE IT. Grown man bars. Intelligence. Science. Eloquent. Respectful and conscious. This is a good representation of Black manhood, Black excellence and the greatness of Hip Hop.
Yea , Thats real for you youngens that dont know about him ( Brother J) and all you do for the community High5 , Shout Out to Sway and family for showing some of our most gifted and sincere people.
If you don't know how it goes down with the X-clan, you better ask somebody. People, who are awakening into their consciousness now, was spoken about by the X-clan back in 1990. They were way ahead of their time. The things that they talked about then, is relatively accurate information in the present.
damn. shit was amazing. sometimes there is nothing bettter than accapella. There are some bars that just come off better with no music. He seemed slightly nervous tho. You could kinda hear it in his voice. The way hes breathing. He must not have been spittin live in a while. Lyrics were the dopest Ive heard in a long time. XClan
This nigga style is different.......or his brain is different.......brother j too dope...too underrated.....too misunderstood........vanglorious peace too all the true GODS and EARTHS
Brother J taught me the essence of what it is to be black ...#resurrect conscious hip hop# all this violence is tiring# anyone can do that# I am a thinking hip hop fan# feed me knowledge about who I am and where I come from#
My homeboy who is a DJ put me on to Xclan recently and many other good unnamed artist and boy he was to fire. And hearing all this samples used throughout time still blows my mind. Tom Tom Club- Ginus of Love is such a fire song
All I want to know is who has continued what this brother(s) was putting out. The Knowledge, The Direction, The Discipline, The Truth,..... Why did so many of us gravitate if it wasn't for that,.... why are so many of us disenchanted now,....Selah. This is our modern day history.
as a young white kid growing up on rap in NYC - Brotha J has been in my head since I first heard him - him and his perspective on the tribulations of life and abhorrent behavior of white people (along with guidance by good parents) taught me to understand my place and do my part and not to be something I'm not...just be who I am and help....
Its not about whether it is a freestyle or not. Listen to what he is saying. That's whats wrong, people don't listen to music anymore. Open your eyes Goddamit!!
That what was freestyle back then that why certain artist sound like God back then and other Who came off the dome was boring n got ate...Only a choose few came off the top...Lord finesse freestyle King in that era...But Ultra Kool Keith come with that crazy shit written and more off the hook...But was still call freestyle....
Word "! The frequency is out of whack its "Demonic! 😈 Have you noticed you dont hear no more Funk in the music . no more soul, no more R@B ? We need to get on code again with the way we interact with one another!
I started buying up the old x clan years back and then when they came out with 'Return to Mecca' it wasa great surprise. Wiz Degrees, for my girl, you might want to spin that
Deep. Authentic. Powerful. But at times may be a tad bit over the heads of most people, especially in the past decade or two. I also always wished there was a way that this type of music could be formed into more coherent narratives... stories with a theme and unifying message. This is what many (seemingly less talented) artists did that made it possible people to sing and either consciously or unconsciously entertain their message. Depth is profound but it can't always be so deep that you can't figure out what's being said or implied. But a truly bad man and in my top 10.
One of those Emcees from back in the day who was ahead of their time..X Clan educated us good in junior high..
