As someone who frequented arcades as a kid in the early 80s, playing Donut Dodo is literally like stepping into a time machine and being transported to the arcade in the mall circa 1983
It definitely sparks your interest as to why such a thing exists in Donut Dodo! And the fact that there's already so many comments about it proves that it gets people talking. And most seem to like it!
Donut Dodo is on sale on the Switch eShop right now, and I was just deliberating as to whether I should pick it up. I think I will! Its Switch publisher is actually Flynn's Arcade though. They have another retro-inspired arcade game called Galacticon. You should keep an eye out for that one to pop up on the VCS. Looks borderline Jeff Mintery.
My love for video games was born in the arcades back in the day. So I hope to play both of these games at some point in the future. Truth be told, I was better at space shooters and maze games than platformers. I was often sold on a game by its looks and attract screen, so Donut DoDo would have gotten my quarters out of the two games.
They're both fantastic and it's probably a preference thing regarding which you'll like better. I believe they are both available on steam if anybody is interested but doesn't have a VCS!
Love Donut Dodo! Absolutely captures the feel of vintage arcade games. I didn't find It as difficult as some folks which is weird because usually I'm the cripple coming in last 😅 Hopefully Cash Cow DX comes to the switch soon. I'm still eyeballing the VCS but I'm going to need it to go on sale before I pull the trigger.
An important aspect of most 1980s arcade game is a relatively easy beginning and then a steady ramp-up of difficulty with each new level. The "easy" early levels allowed one to get a good grasp of the game. Ghost and Goblins is the only very successful 80s arcade game I can think of where the difficulty starts very high and gets worse very quickly.
And I guess there was a reason for it so I probably shouldn't have made it a thing. But it felt jarring to me just to see this toilet chasing the chef character so idk I think the reasoning will be lost on a lot of people. But it's very minor it's a great game!

They nailed it so perfectly. It's insane how well of a job they did honestly.
The one criticism I have of Donut is it is too short.
@@tarstarkusz It's an arcade game, most arcade games of the era it's representing only had 3 or 4 levels that repeat. Think Donkey Kong, Popeye, etc.
@@T.B.L. They don't end. That's the difference. Most games just went on forever until you lost.
Appreciate the reviews! It's great to see the VCS getting great games on the platform.
I have both of these on my VCS and I agree they are both great!
Great minds think alike! Of course it's easy with games this good
I love that there's an evil toilet going after you, it's random, kind of doesn't fit, but yet, it really does add to the oddity of the game.

I pre ordered the psysical swtich version of dodo.

These are great games! A good amount of action and challenge. The visuals, sounds and music fit them perfectly.🎉🎉
Agreed

Oh I'm sure it will. They'd be smart to do so in order to reach a larger audience.
Great review! I love Pixel games
The toilets are from Jet Set Willy.
Thank you I honestly didn't understand that but if there's a reason I can walk it back
Or Jet Set F'ing Willy, as Clive Sinclair called him. ruclips.net/video/IxnNaIijOmg/видео.html
Pixel games are titles that deserve more love and recognition in the Indie scene, and you did shed the light on two good games of theirs!
Great video! I've been loving cash cow on my VCS! I hope they do a follow up game!
Great video!
Thank you I appreciate it!
those games look like they would be a ton of fun.. wish they would release for the switch for portable gaming on the go..
I'm surprised they aren't. I'm sure they will or if people ask them enough they will.

Both games are fantastic. Although difficult. I love using the classic controller with Donut Dodo. Confused and why it's not supported in cash cow.
Sigi had toilet humour so it was no surprise to me to see a walking toilet in Doughnut Dodo.

These are top notch!
Agreed!
Cash Cow feels very much like a mash-up of Mappy and Miner 2049er
That's a really good description, thank you for that!
