What a lovely build, socket 939 and ATI chipset, I feel like that's kinda rare. I love the X19xx series cards, basically the the peak fixed function era GPU's, but I don't know what ATI was thinking with that cooler..
Love your content - there’s such a niche community that enjoys all of the details and older tech, and I’m in that community lol. Great work! I look forward to your uploads!
Just built one myself. I love it. I'm doing a Windows 98 build with all of the same equipment I used in my first PC build in the summer of 1998, except the case. Can't wait to see my 16MB Voodoo Banshee rocking Half-Life again. I didn't use a floppy either, I put in a multicard reader instead.
Awesome video! This era of hw will always be my favorite. I would highly recommend getting modern psu's for your retro builds, even if the specs are good on old ones, they often have really unstable voltages from worn out components and can easily fry these old, expensive and hard to find motherboards and gpus.
I'm surprised the RS480M2 is still alive. In my previous experience, they didn't last long. I was swapping them out for alternative nForce4 boards that performed better in benchmark tests.

I’ve got the Sapphire X1950XT. It’s just too bad it’s difficult to find older GPUs complete in box since the artwork back then was really nice. These days GPUs don’t really have any artwork on the coolers anymore because the fans take up all the space.
you, friend, totally deserve a follow, I so totally can feel what you say, I am on the exactly same route as you are and fun fact, this week I also turned 40 :) really like the both videos i´ve watched so far, calm and really honest, I enjoy that alot! are you an american? me, german, friendly greets from bavaria!
Your power supply is plenty. Don't worry about it. Your cpu+gpu don't even reach 200watt power usage. Unless you have bad capacitors inside that PSU. Could be the case. A weak psu won't cause stutter, a weak psu will cause random reboots. Maybe you have driver problems, dicey ram sticks or temperature problems. Use stress tests like prime95 or IBT for CPU, and Unigine Heaven for GPU, and monitor temps with coretemp/afterburner/etc. And test ram with hci memtest. Which temps are getting on the X1900XT? Are you sure it's not throttling? Did you replace the card's thermal paste?
@@alwaysobsolete Fair enough. Your Antec 380 watts was already on it's way out then. Probably high ripple due to expired capacitors from the cap plague era. 300 watts on 12v line is more than enough to run your cpu+gpu setup since your X2 is 90 watt TDP and the 1900xt is 100watt TDP. High ripple could cause the VRM to throttle the cpu aggressively.
I'm sorry, but dude, you talk SOOOO slooowly. I had to bump the speed up to 2x just for it to be bearable. I'm not trying to be mean, it's just something I had to mention. Maybe try to speak faster in the future or speed up the video in post?
I was 16 then, just build a new PC, good times.

I appreciate that!

I would've been so, so happy to have this build as a kid.
i really enjoy the old designs on GPU's

I really like the build. You have pretty high quality videos. keep it up man!
i like the black viewSonic crt
I love these old builds from back in the day, and actually game on them, for me its a massive throwback. Nice vids m8 cheers.
Thanks! More to come
You sould add a audigy or x fi sound card to this build they sound amazing with a good pair of headphones on games that support them
Good idea

YOUR CAMERA IS SMOOTH YO
yes, new PSU sounds like the way to go for the follow up video :)
Put one in... seems to be working ok now!

Thank you for the sub! I am Canadian
Got an X1800XT, its by far the loudest card i have. Nothing comes close to the pc startup noise 😅.
It's always annoying to find out just how power hungry mid-2000s builds can be...
What? It only got worse to these days. A 1950XT and a X2 3800 only use around 200 watts.

I bought a new PSU last year and it solved everything.
