    Wonderful rendition, Raymond ! Miners back in those days were little more than indentured servants... It was either starve to death or be treated like a slave...

    What a great song of it's time. I know the Alan Price version of Trimden Grange which being a Geordie lad is very poignant. Not familiar with this one or his personal history.Thanks for all the added information which shows how much we still have to learn. We had a few Collieries near Salford and St.Helens etc which affected many of the Lancashire Folk at the time. Thanks for keeping these great songs alive and maybe with the internet less songs will be lost. (Your next surprise has just been posted.)
