Surprised the Magnus stinger two blade was not mentioned. I shot my first dozen deer set at 45lb @28" with slick trick viper tricks and rage hypodermics (1 3/4" cut I believe). These were on 500 spine Easton 6.5mm shafts. Very run of the mill. All my shots save one were pass through. Going back to the Magnus, if anyone is on the fence about broadheads, you will never go wrong with a Stinger. From flight to penetration, it always seems to work well.
I shoot fixed blade broadheads NAP HELLRAZOR is my fav. I sharpen it up out of the box wt my strop. What other fixed blade do you suggest I try this season.
If you want to stay with that style you're already shooting the best of the best. If you're looking for different styles the afflictor k2 fixed, simmons mako, and wasp sharpshooter all come to mind.
I'm really doing my homework looking for a good broadhead for my wife. She shoots 55#. I thought mechanicals would be ok for her setup, but after an antelope hunt this week, she got very little penetration. Luckily she still recovered the animal, but I was unimpressed with the broadhead. I've been shopping for a 2 blade cut on contact, but not finding anything I am totally sold on. I'm shooting the Afflictor ext hybrid, but I don't think it's the right broadhead for her. I'm leaning towards the ramcat hydroshock. What's your opinion on that head for lighter draw weight bow?
You made the arrow discussion a bit more confusing than necessary. I don't see the need for dragging the 70 pound bow into the discussion. The Victory VAP arrow is a great suggestion, however. Just use the proper VAP arrow for this set up. Victory arrows come spine aligned. Add a little extra weight (brass insert) & add a good quality 100 fixed blade broadhead to the proper shaft. Make sure the FOC is within a good range & eliminate the desire for excessive arrow mass. Excessive arrow mass will do very little for you. See the recent "Arrow Penetration - The Hunting Public". I know you're not a big fan of Slick Trick these days, but the 100 grain Viper Trick would be a good choice for a lower poundage, short draw shooter. Make the proper arrow set up, weigh it, and shoot it through the chronograph when you're done. I see no need to make all the calculations you shared, but I would make some calculations to get the FOC about right for the new arrow.
Are you talking about hunting publics video where they discuss the joel max(sp?) Penetration study? If so they explain in that video that using a foam target will never be a replacement for an animal, amd that theoretically according to that study youll never get more than 13" in penetration. They also discuss that itd take a 350 grain arrow going 657 fps to get 2 foot of penetration in foam, but then discuss warb shooting long ways completely through an elk. With an arrow much heavier and much slower. If that video is the one youre talking about essentially it just shows that foam is a great target medium to stop arrows. As for why a 70lb bow is in this discussion, the vast majority of low poundage set ups are being set up, by fathers, boyfriends, husbands, for kiddos or partners. The male counterpart often makes the mistake of setting the lower poundage shooter up just like they are set up, thats a mistake. The addition of the 70 lb bow quantifies, in plain numbers, the difference between the higher energy and lower energy and further drives home that they need to adjust the lower poundage set for better performance. Making better arrow and broadhead selections specifically vs just giving them what they shoot. The recommendation for heavier spine tham necessary is two fold, one heavier spine is going to be a heavier overall arrow, two it gives the low energy shooter room to increase draw weight without having to buy more arrows, so it saves money and eliminates future expenditures.
Went with an Exodous here but I am shooting a victory VAP 400 with a 50 grn insert at 29 in and shooting 250 fps so I’m a little bit faster but only shooting 45 lbs because of shoulder surgery
I love the 90° angle on the K2-Fixed...makes a huge hole. Great info!
I love it! Just not for slow energy set ups
Excellent job !! Very helpful ! Thanks again I really appreciate it. I’ll keep you posted on how my sons season goes this fall !
I'd love to hear how it goes!!
I’m a magnus stinger guy myself. 50lbs at 26 inches. I get pass throughs on hogs with that setup.
Stingers would be a great option also!
@@Chestthumperoutdoors keep up the good work my man. Real helpful stuff you got going on.
Ayyyy I bought some k2 off of ya a while back can’t wait to sink them into a black bear or whitetail
Those K2 are great broadheads, the ones you bought I had sharpened up. Thank you for the support!!
Im a 25in draw length. Im gonna try a few cut on contact broadheads out of my new athens summit 6. Thank you for the great videos
I think youll be very happy! Thanks for taking the time to watch!

Great option. Im just not able to cover all the options available in a reasonable time

I have a dragonx8 set at 52 draw weight and 25.50 lenght..would the wasp or Simmons 125 gr work..I'm shooting victory 500 spine arrows???
Either one should work really well for that set up!
@@Chestthumperoutdoors I went with the magnus stinger. Total arrow weight 396gr shooting threw my chrono@ 196 fps..is this ok?

Simmons mako or afflictor K2 fixed is where I would go.
I'm 14 shooting 45 lbs wanna go with victory arrows wondering wat spine and weight i should go with
Youll probably need a 400 spine. Whats your draw length?
@@Chestthumperoutdoors im not sure i need to get it adjusted id prolly think round 25.5
Thanx
My wife is shooting a Hoyt eclipse at 41 pounds 25inch draw 430grain total arrow weight hitting 191fps maybe that’s some helpful info
Thats exactly who I made this video for! Im glad it was helpful!

Magnus stinger would be another good head for this setup or a dead ringer Butcher.
Magnus for sure, no experience with the butcher though.
