- In this episode, we show you how to get both HDMI & Component video output in the easiest way possible from the original Xbox with the XEDUSA OG Xbox Plug-N-Play HDMI & Component Video Adapter from the Behar Bros.
Check out Adam Koralik's video on the Xedusa at • Xedusa - Best OG Xbox ...
Before the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii U, getting HDMI out of a video game system was unheard of. The best you could hope for was component video, and even those were not always the easiest to come by or the most budget-friendly. In recent years, many manufacturers have come out with HDMI conversions or upgrades for older systems, such as the original Xbox. The vast majority of them prioritize convenience over quality, and while they may get you to an HDMI solution, the quality of the video is pretty rough. That's where the Bahar Bros and their new adapter, the Xedusa, come into play as it is a plug-and-play HDMI and component video solution for the original Xbox, and it's under $80.
We ordered our test unit in August 2022, however, we did not receive our unit until early November. I understand that these units are made by hand, and that's a long time to wait. I'd like to see them be able to pick up their processing time a little bit to reduce the wait time. At the very least have some kind of disclaimer on the website explaining this would have been nice. when we ordered our unit it was under $65, but I have noticed that there has been a price increase since we ordered hours.
The design of the adapter is fairly simple and straightforward. You plug it into the back of your Xbox, and then it gives you component video output with stereo audio, analog audio out via an RCA jack, digital audio out via a Toslink connector, and your HDMI output. Overall it is pretty simple and straightforward to plug in, hook up, and get going. One thing of note is this does not provide any sort of upscaling or image enhancement. It simply taps into the output on the system and gives you native video quality out. If you would want to enhance the video quality at all you could utilize something like a RetroTink Multi-Format, RetroTink 5X, an OSSC, or other such devices by connecting the component video cable outputs. You could also utilize something like the mCable or mClassic as well. The great thing is you can output from either RCA jacks or HDMI simultaneously so you have plenty of options.
From a design standpoint, one thing that is a bit of a miss on the Xedusa is that there is a gap between the bottom of the case and the ground. That means the connector on the Xbox must support the entire weight of both the Xedusa and your HDMI cable. I will be designing a 3D-printed case for this to address that issue to provide better support.
I will admit I have not done a whole lot with my Xbox since I got it, and one of the issues that I ran into, and this was strictly Xbox related and had nothing to do with the Xedusa, was capturing audio. I had the worst time getting the audio to capture. I eventually figured out that I had to disable the surround sound and some of the other digital audio settings to get it to work properly, but even then I did not have the greatest experience capturing audio. Pass-through, however, it was flawless.
The quality of the video coming out of the Xedusa is nothing short of spectacular. It is clean, and vibrant, with little if any lag, and overall a wonderful experience. I played multiple games, from Halo, Project Gotham Racing, Enter the Matrix, Republic Commando, and more, and they all looked terrific.
Why it RoX:
- Reasonably priced
- Component video and HDMI output
- Toslink connector for digital audio
- No noticeable lag or latency
- Can simultaneously output via component video or HDMI
- It just works
What could be improved:
- Shipping time is considerable
- No upscaling
- The entire weight of the adapter and cable must be supported by the connector
Should you buy one?
At the time of this upload, the Xedusa is selling on the Bahar Bros website for about $70. At that price, if you are even the most casual of Xbox fans I highly recommend it. The results are fantastic, and the price is fairly reasonable. The only real major miss to me on this is the fact that there is a lack of support for the dongle when connected to an Xbox. I am designing a new case that will be 3D printed, which should address that issue. The only other issue is the fact shipping takes a really long time. I'm glad to see that they have addressed that on their website now, as this is a terrific solution and I highly recommend it.

I love how they make it yellow :-)
Only if you are deaf. No sound and reviews of this product never talk about sound issue.
Awesome! What a Great video! Thanks a lot for reviewing our adapter. It’s now available in stock and ready to ship now. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much guys, can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Just ordered mine! Thanks for the video…
Oh man now I have to break out my old Xbox. I’m afraid to see if it works but if it does oh man. Great video and find
Thanks man! For $70 this does so much!!
It's nice to see the OG Xbox get some love. Luckily I still have my original cables.
Gary, it's been so nice using my PS4 controller on my PS2. Have you found any good ways to use an Xbox one controller on an OG Xbox?
I have not
Brooks wingman xb v2 adapter
Great video wanting to buy one of these now . There’s a Xedusa + but not sure what’s improved on the + version? Any info appreciated. Thanks
Check out Adam Koralik's Channel, he's covered the new ones.
What few people are talking about and had to learn the hard way is there is no sound for me through HDMI. They had a disclaimer about version 1.0 consoles but now it's too late 😢
No their disclaimer is misleading....it says may not work with 1.0. It should says its possible that it might work with 1.0 and let me say the composite analog connections don't work either.
Can you please test the Electron Shepherd Xbox2hdmi adapter?
I'm looking into this, we'll see
I just found a really neat device over at Ali-Express. It's the NGC Blueretro Wireless controller adapter for Nintendo Gamecube. It's a four player adapter for bluetooth controllers. Just thought you might want to know. Check it out.
Thanks
@@RoXolid I use Green Dot pre paid credit card. I don't like giving them anything major just to be safe.
Will you be selling the 3d printed case for it you are designing? I ordered one today and am worried about the connector not having good support.
Yes I will
sorry im new to the hd gaming cables for the og xbox i really do not want mod the xbox just yet. i would love 5.1 surround because i have just upgraded my surround sound. what i have been looking at is this, the xbox2hdmi or if could get one the chimeric . what would you recommend ?
The xbox2hdmi is cheap... And cheap. I don't really recommend. I haven't used the Chimeric, but the Xedusa is amazing and pretty budget friendly
@@RoXolid awesome and thank you very much for the quick reply. I’ll be ordering this later tonight. You do a amazing job on RUclips I watch your videos weekly. Thank you again.
@@dmcwally2 Well thank you so kindly for the compliments. If you haven't done so yet check out my friend Adam Koralik as he's done videos on the Chimera where I have not, and he's who I turn to when I have Xbox questions because he's much more of an expert than I am.
I think you gave me the solution to my problem.
For some reason my screen flickers and eventually blacks out on my 4k TV and I can't figure out why. Sometimes the screen to turns pink and My TV Is telling me that the signal is NOT supported. Like what in the world.
I guess putting it in 480i should fix it...maybe?
Not sure? I would think most TVs would handle progressive better than inerlaced.

So tried the thumb sticks and both triggers and it worked for a brief moment and then totally lost all picture indefinitely.
I gave up. I removed the SEIKI upscaler HDMI cable that I used and stuck with the mclassic and a regular HDMI cable and that did work finally. Looked better with the seiki upscaler HDMI cable in that brief moment, but didn't last.
Think I'm going to get that 4k gamer pro stick in addition to the mclassic since the SEIKI cable didn't work. Hoping for a sharper picture.
I have a later model 2005 Xbox is it worth buying the Xedusa for it? or do i need an early model Xbox to make the Xedusa worth buying?
im currently using a hyperkin on my 2005 Xbox and it is unplayable. Will Xedusa be worth buying until i can find another console
I wasn't sure so I reached out to Adam Koralik. 2004 onward isn't recommended. 2001 - 2003 with new caps is ideal.
Has anyone tried using the astro a40 with the optical port on this device? Does it work?
I am not familiar with that, sorry
I have a great device for getting HDMI out on original Xbox games. A 360. Only about 50% of games are backwards compatible, but that 50% includes about 90%?of the games I want to play.
There you go!
you mean coaxial digital audio output a kin to SPDIF
Correct
No updates on a 3d printed case for it?
I have not had time do design one myself yet, but here's one that I have printed and used
www.printables.com/model/299554-xedusa-strain-relief
Why does HDRetrovision not do an Xbox cable?
Not sure. But for the money the Xedusa does the same or more without any external upscaler
@@RoXolid I *have* an external upscaler though, a beautiful shiny Retrotink 5X. That's why, ideally, I wouldn't need to waste money on console specific upscalers and internal modifications, just looking for good cables.
2:49 ----> Composite Video?! tee hee ... ooops you did it again! 😜👌
Son of a....
@@RoXolid hAHAHAHA I love you man. We all know what you meant. Just teasing.... love the content1 🙏
@@TheSocialGamer I thought I caught them all and edited them out. Oh well.
Man, I thought I could plug both my CRT and the LCD with this thing. That's a downer for me, cause I really wanted to keep the Composite cable safe, and that's because ordering stuff for xbox online is expensive for me since it was never released in my country.
You can do Component and HDMI
@@RoXolid Yeah that I can do. But I really wanted to play older 8-16 bit games on my CRT cause you know that's where they're supposed to be.
You're talking 2 different things then, as this is just for the original Xbox
@@RoXolid I have a Hard Modded Xbox.
@@FR4M3Sharma ah ok
Does it do the component and HDMI out at the same time?
It does!
@@RoXolid oh awesome! I'm sold on it now. That's the exact thing I need for my setup. Thanks
What hdmi cord is being used to connect from adapter to tv?
Any HDMI cable will work but I used a Huaham cable
@@RoXolid thank you!!
You're welcome
i wish i could i test that on my OG Xbox but i have to wait to get my OG Xbox repaired because it won't turn on when i press the power button
Oh no!
@@RoXolid yeah i have a second OG Xbox but it died which i don't know how it died
Sorry to hear it
@@RoXolid the main reason i got myself a OG Xbox is because most of the games i have for it aren't backwards compatible on my Xbox 360 slim
@@jessejones1783 I get that!
I went to order one but their website isn’t responding, can’t add it to my cart.
Hmm, message them, they may not know
@@RoXolid I tried again today and i was successful, i got one on the way!
Does this work on Pal consoles?
Wondering the same thing! Did you ever get an answer?
@@PLEYOR Nuh I ended up just doing more research, it does work on PAL consoles BUT you will need to mod the console in order to get the higher resolutions as they are exclusive to NTSC.
If you mod the console you can change it from PAL to NTSC
5:45 he says that as he backtracks on himself iykyk
What are you talking about? I simply discussed the option of 1080i and said most recommend to stick with 720p as it'll look better. What did I backtrack?
Now try running it through your Photo fast 4k!
That's the plan!
How much ?
Click the link in the pinned comment, that will have the most recent pricing. As I mentioned in the video even from when I purchased it to now there had been a price increase
@@RoXolid I bought a componet cable for 10 bucks on eBay never gave me any troubles. I'm looking into the hyperkin cable for Xbox. But this looks cool too. Just not my ideal price range.
I will guarantee you that $10 eBay cable does not have sufficient insulation on it, and you're getting a combination of RF noise and signal loss that you're not even noticing. The monster cables and the official component adapter for Microsoft cleans up the image so much more, and then this here does the same basic thing.
@@RoXolid I enjoy it. I think it's good. No problems. But that's interesting.
Seems a poor design if it just hangs out the back like that.
They've updated the design since this to incorporate a pigtail so it can rest on the ground
