Hey Layne, I think it would be enormously helpful if you did a video on key points when critiquing nutritional research or even just a beginners guide to research (i.e. what meta-analysis, systematic review, RCT, case series and reports etc are). I don't think it is beyond the lay person's grasp and you have a way with words that will encourage more people to critically appraise research thrown at them. Keep up the great work mate!

This is by far one of my favorite videos of yours. Though I am very familiar with flexible dieting (due to your podcast, Sohee's book, and many other sources from you) I like how you broke it down to explain why you chose what you chose. This video will be of great help to anyone that is unfamiliar with flexible dieting and will give novice users possibly a new perspective.

Lifestyle videos are the best. Lifting videos are everywhere. But there are 24 hours in a day with only one or two of those spent in the gym. Look on any forum or group and you'll see that most of the questions are based on shopping, eating, and fitting the lifestyle into our normal lives. The whole time I watched this I was thinking about the time spent walking my mom around the store in the same way.

Layne, I noticed the sharp-cheddar cheese you recommend lists mono and diglycerides in the ingredients, which I've read are a source of trans-fat. What are your thoughts on that, and trans-fat in general? Is the fear-mongering surrounding these ingredients similar to that of artificial sweeteners and GMOs?

Great video! I think it would be interesting to do a macro oriented video like the Animal "Big on a budget series". If you aren't familiar they go shopping for a week with an allotted budget of $50, $100, etc. It would be interesting to see it done from a macro set up approach. Love the increased frequency and variety of content as of late.

Hey Dr Norton, could you also do a video on why it's either not possible or optimal (not sure which of the two your position is) to build muscle whilst in a caloric deficit for non-beginner lifters. Specifically, can you clarify if it is possible to build muscle for non-beginner lifters in a caloric deficit. Is the rate of protein synthesis just slower for a lifter in a hypocaloric cf hypercaloric state or is hypertrophy not possible when in a caloric deficit? For example, if a non-beginner lifter (intermediate - advanced) is at >15% bodyfat and is lifting applying the principle of progressive overload (increasing volume week to week) whilst in a caloric deficit but consuming adequate protein (>0.9g/pound) can you lose fat and gain muscle? If not, why? If so, how much slower is the rate of protein synthesis. Thanks and kind regards.

Hi Layne. Your videos are very helpful, thank you. I lost 58 pounds on keto since August 2018. Now, since I am lean enough, I think keto simply won’t help me build more muscle and is slowing down my lean goals. I’ve been stalled around 149-150 pounds at 5’8 height. I’m hoping that by adding carbs and doing more of a flexible approach will help me to continue to shred to maybe one day be good enough to compete. Do you have any videos you recommend concerning nutrition for muscle building while on a cut? Thanks.

Layne, I was recently diagnosed with FSGS and I am VERY confused on how my diet should be set up. The doctor said lower protein to .7g per kg which ends up being like 10g pro pet meal. 7 meals. There are a lot of foods I shouldn't eat and some that actually help my disease. Are you familiar with FSGS? Dr. Layne do you think that because your testosterone is so high, it allows you to tweak your diet a little bit more? Meaning you can eat more processed food than someone like me that has a lower level of testosterone. Obviously, I am not educated in this, but I am wondering whether people with more testosterone have more potential for muscle, which their bodies allow them to eat more flexible? Hope it makes sense.

We’ve got Halo Top in Australia now. It’s ok. Better option that regular ice cream but it’s so expensive. Our shop is quite similar to Laynes minus the pre-packaged stuff. We don’t have the variety in Australia as you get in the US. I live in turkey breast for lunch with kale slaw & use, blueberries quite a bit. Can’t go past kambucha 😋 Also use the carton of egg white with 1 full raw egg to get the fat/nutrients. Otherwise our poor cat 🐈 has to eat numerous yolks each day which I’m sure isn’t healthy. Anyway good to see how others fuel & always interesting to note how similar likeminded folks eat even when on the other side of the world. Must be doing something right 👍🏽👍🏽

sugar is not an atom. sugar is a molecule containing multiple atoms. And what data do you have that it is inherently dangerous? did you know sucralose (splenda) has MORE safety data on it than stevia? I'd advise against reading propoganda.
