  • Heather, a pointer puppy, fostered at the Kershaw County Humane Society in South Carolina. July-August 2014.
A chocolate-coated pointer puppy with a pretty spotted chest. She's energetic, intelligent, silly, and incredibly loving. I didn't think I would like her at first because she liked to jump, but she listens well to a firm "no" and we bonded. She's been incredible. She's a lot of fun and so easy to train. It took her about 10 minutes to figure out "go to bed" meant to get in her crate, although she'll grumble some nights about it like a five-year-old and try to play instead of going to bed. About the same amount of effort was required to learn "high-five" and "sit".
She doesn't bite and she's generous with her kisses. She's great around other dogs but really needs people time too. She's more rowdy with other dogs, but calms down when she's playing with people. She's not a good fit for an older couple unless they are willing to play with her. She would love a family with kids or a couple willing to play fetch or tug of war every day. She should be supervised around younger children until the children are comfortable around her. Some children have been nervous at her energy and others get along splendidly. She hasn't been observed around babies or cats, but she caught a bird once. The bird was unharmed, just frightened, and after a little while, flew off. Heather left the bird alone when told to "drop it". Just another example of how obedient she is.
Honestly, one of the best foster puppies I've had with the potential to complete some lucky family's dream of having a perfect dog.
