  • SOUTH KOREA BABY! Moving to Japan came with many hopes of being able to explore a part of Asia that we weren't able to see during our Southeast Asia travels in 2018. That's why we have been really excited to visit South Korea just a short flight from Tokyo!
    Join us in this video as we explore Seoul in the north, and Busan in the south. Overall, we were surprised how different the culture is in South Korea compared to what we've experienced in Japan.

    Having spent both business and personal time in Japan and Korea (admittedly much more time in Korea), I do like and enjoy both countries.
    However, consistent with many RUclips channels I watch, my preference is to Korea. A more advanced, friendly and open society. Especially true among the younger generations born after the 1970s.
    An amazing country that is extremely modern but also has preserved its historical heritage. From near total destruction to modern influencer and all coming from an agricultural country prior to 1952 - it is just amazing.

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Месяц назад +12

      We've heard some people say it like this. Live in Korea, and travel to Japan. I think for us since our experience has been the opposite, it feels a bit hard to know which we would like the most if it were the other way around. Interesting to hear your perspective!

    • @hydropascal

      @OurStorytoTell Just be aware that JAPAN'S civilization began by people from Korean peninsula in ancient times. For example the oldest architecture company in japan that built many temples in Kyoto and Nara areas was founded by engineers from Bekje dynasty which is one of three kingdoms in Korean peninsula. The westerners easily think that Japan is cultural center of East Asia, which is totally misconception due to their ignorance on history. Mochi is 'ttok ' we taught them how to make. Just because Japan was known to the west earlier, they do know mochi but not ttok. But it would be nicer to remember original one.
      Have a good trip with your pretty and cute kids!

    • @WingManDK
      @WingManDK Месяц назад +8

      I would totally agree. For me and my family Korea is over the top but I think everyone is different in preference. Korea is more lively, people are amazing, food you can't ask better, and more open-minded than Japanese. This is how many people see Koreans and Japanese. Koreans are more direct and Japanese are more reserved inside to themselves. You will know Koreans if they like you or not but the Japanese rather keep it inside to themselves and don't want to show even you are liked or not. Personally, I would rather want direct.

    • @heavenhaven7254
      @heavenhaven7254 Месяц назад +1

      @@WingManDKIn Japanese character is be polite front of you whether liked or not. Being very polite or respectful is part of defense mechanism not letting know how they feel inside. That's why Korean people say they have 2 faces, you don't what actual in their mind.

    Interesting and uplifting video as always. ♥
    At the time I lived in Freiburg i. Brsg., I had South Korean neighbours. A very nice couple, both students of the Freiburg University. They owned a cat named "Nabi" and this is the reason why I know exactly one word in South Korean, lol, because Nabi translates to butterfly! Hehe. They often invited me for lunch or dinner or dropped in to show me how to prepare several Korean meals and I confess, I loved the Korean food. These two were among the best neighbours I ever had in my long life!
    I was surprised about the "love-locks-thing" at the bridge..... thought it was a European phenomenon but it seems to be international!
    Hey Willa, I love your earrings, those little bows are really cute! And you were sooo brave, you did a good job!

      So fun to hear your memory of the couple and how you remember that Korean word because of their cat!

      I'll be sure to let Willa know :). Thanks for the support and the kind comment!

Unlike the Japanese who will always win for politeness Koreans wear their emotions on their sleeves and will always win on hospitality! And as you can see by the views in just a few days that a lot of RUclipsrs are spending more time in Korea as they can make a lot more money there. Korea, an amazing country that has impact around the world with its economy, technology, unique and tasty food, and entertainment (TV, Movies, Music, Arts ) that set the top level of World Standards.
    Also interesting to see first-hand their history and how they preserved their unique culture, despite repeated attacks and even genocidal efforts by Japan and China. As recently as the Colonial takeover by Japan 1911-1945.

      If ippononna is attempting to create the idea that Korea benefited from Japanese colonization with attempts to eliminate the Korean culture, it is a strange version of academic stupidity/lunacy. The same academic approach that claims Africans benefited by being made slaves in the Americas.

    With so much street food available everywhere, one would hardly ever need to seek out a Westernised fast food outlet like KFC or McDonald's. And of all the food you tasted, that was probably only scratching the surface of all foods available. But after salivating over that fried chicken, the next thing I'm going to buy when I go shopping is Southern Fried Chicken to roast at home, since we don't have supermarkets where I live that do chicken from the rotisserie. I think I'll baste the chicken with oyster sauce, or maybe hoisin sauce.

    What are the food prices in Korea? We are experiencing lately that the US has become very expensive plus the expected 23% and up tip! Even Switzerland was cheaper as we visited it last year and this year Italy was no difference! Not to mention the way better quality abroad than here in the US!

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Месяц назад +2

      Food is more expensive than in Japan (due to current yen rate), but not nearly as expensive as the US from our perspective. We talk a bit about this in one of our next videos, so stay tuned :).
      Agreed that the tipping culture in the US is out of hand and should be corrected with just better wages to begin with. Unfortunately that's not something that will likely be fixed any time soon. Yes... the quality of food in both countries is much better!
