Yeah I reverted 3 years ago and started wearing hijab and I was not prepared for how different men act.
I remember one time I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone because a group of non-Muslim young men (looked like late teens or maybe early 20s) instantly straightened up and held the doors for me when I was walking into a restaurant. I was like-wait a second, young men being respectful? What just happened?!
I feel like hijab gives me human dignity. I stand taller and feel more confident.

I wear hijab at the age of 44 no body forced me to do that I feel I’m close to God and I was used to wear modest clothes but I didn’t like to cover my hair then I started to pray for God to make me like it and so thank Allah almighty I scant leave putting it now I love it and will put it till the end of my life , I feel more respected and I m trying to be holy like Maryam the mother of Prophet Eissa peace be upon him and her . We have a full surah in the Quran about Maryam . So I encourage everyone to read it. Sooo beautiful how Allah almighty prescribed her and her son❤

Yes Starz, The hijab will protect the women from the abusers. Many non-Muslim women don't know about benefits of wearing hijab and some innocent women are being abused or raped. Hijab doesn't not necessarily protect a woman from abusers... rape in not nesesarly committed on woman who dont cover up. innocent girl children are raped by their male relatives, brother , fathers. so lets put the blame were it should go. Men should walk around with thier eyes down on the ground because they have no control over thier sexual urges. being covered does not in any way insure a woman's safety. 95% of heinous crimes and sexual abuse are committed by men. when a woman or a girl CHILD is raped by a man or gang of men, who gets the blame? THE WOMAN because ?? I am a revert since the age of 25 yrs old I am now in my 60's I have worn hijab since 25 yrs old till 3 yrs ago. I dont see the need for it anymore as I am old. but what I noticed , which I find funny, is when I was young I noticed a lot of muslim woman who didn't wear hijab started doing so when they became older... like in thier 50/60"s 😬

Subhanallah it is good to hear that the Mufti’s words had a positive impact on you sister. I was myself a Christian until I began to learn about Islam and after reading the Quran I took my Shahada because I found that Islam was closer to the religion that I believed than Christianity was. Don't you think this is somewhat self obsessive? I mean walking around thinking that men might be looking at you and having immoral thoughts? Do you really think men have nothing better to do than have immoral thoughts about you? I think this way of thinking is obsessive about one's self. Women and men should dress modestly, I agree, but walking around in hijabs, sends some very negative messages to the society around you. It conveys messages of being socially divisive and antisocial. You see you say you 'feel respected', but for those women who wear face coverings, have you considered that the people around them may be feeling disrespected by the person wearing the covering.....though they are too polite to admit it or say it?
I think other people may see things very differently from you when you say "I don’t understand how woman is oppressed if she chooses to cover!" It is entirely possible that the people around the covered woman feel oppressed by the woman who is covering her identity! Have you considered the possibility that this 'one sided, single minded thinking' by women covering their identity, tends to be obsessed with self, instead of understanding and recognising how anyone else thinks, feels or feels oppressed by such women?
And then lastly, while this may be normal behaviour in some Muslims countries, when this is done in Western countries, it isn't respecting the culture of the native population and therefore has the potential to cause offence to people. The same would happen if a western person went to a predominantly Muslim country and didn't respect the social codes of the native population - it would soon cause offence! Therefore when a person goes to another country or culture, they should do their best to adopt local customs and broadly dress codes as this shows respect to the people who are kindly hosting you in their country.

But covering does make it easier for them not to look and cumulatively be distracted (that's not the right word, I'm struggling to put the cumulative effect in few words). It's not just seeing one uncovered person, it's the sheer number of aggressively (?) uncovered women and removing yourself from the equation doesn't stop it. But it helps in the way of that boy in the story who threw starfish that had been beached, back in the ocean. It might not cause much of a dent in the number of dying starfish, but it was something. Other people can do what they want, but we can choose to do it differently. I pick up trash and make other environmentally friendly choices, and what I do does not make a dent, but I do it anyway. We can choose to cover and it might not fix society, but it helps in the same way that my environmental choices help.
Hijab isn't all about men, either. It is a constant reminder to the woman that she is a Muslim and she needs to act like one. And if God says do and we do, we are submitting. Not to a man but to the creator of everything. Alot of the focus people give it is about men, but they are far from THE only reason to do it.

Here is a story I saw on Facebook. A man bought his daughter a new IPhone 14 Pro max. The girl took the phone and she bought a protective case and put the phone inside it.
After seeing that, the man asked his daughter, "Why did you cover your phone with that case?"
"Because I want to protect it", she replied.
Then he told his daughter, "But it's just a mobile phone! What's the point of protecting it?"
She said, "Come on dad! When something is valuable to you, you have to protect it!"
Then he asked her again, "So, why don't you protect your own body, which is more valuable than anything else? Why do you always wear clothes that show parts of your body? Is your body less precious than your phone?
The girl remained silent for a while and she moved to her bedroom.
From that day on, she started wearing decent clothes. Allahou akbar...

Just watched this video this afternoon at work and rewatched it again when I got home with my speakers on. Subhanallah And it's 💯 enlightening using analogy and logic in talking with non Muslims. Actually even when I was a Christian, I'm not wearing tight fitting clothes since it's very hot and humid in the country that I live in. I'm a professional health care provider and I have to appear and look respectful with regards to my profession. I believe in One GOD but the idea of the Trinity also confuses me which in Christianity it was not properly explained to us, we're taught to have faith and believe what was taught to us. Alhamdullilah! I'm grateful that I became a Muslimah. I reverted back since 24th of May 2024. My knowledge of Islam is still like an infant(little child's Islam's knowledge) but videos like these from Mufti Menk, Dr. Belal Assad and Nouman Ali Khan and this another scholar/sheikh which I forgot his name really are a BIG help in widening my knowledge with Islam now. Allahhu Akbar🙌🏻

It's so hypocritical for anyone to demean a Muslim woman's dress code without doing the same thing to Nuns, to Amish women, and even Orthodox Christain women who cover themsleves from head to toe as a sign of modesty and piety. This lady talks about progression but all of the women who followed Christ covered their bodies from head to toe. Not once did he tell them not to. It's clearly written in scripture for women to cover their heads whenever they enter the sanctuary and to dress modestly and not to wear make up nor jewelry but to be shamefaced. Those are New Testament Biblical teaching by Paul, not the Old Laws of Moses. So, I find it quite hypocritical of thus woman to sit there and criticize how women in Islam dress.
