Thanks for this! Even without narration it is so helpful to watch a master doing the basics, and be reminded of the ease and fluidity of hand motions to aspire to...
Thank you for this tutorial. I set a goal this past weekend of getting much better at throwing mugs and making good handles (rather than the funky slab built ones I’ve been doing) and your video made that possible. I have 15 really great mugs with beautiful handles drying on the rack (slowly!). So appreciate the clear guidance and demonstration.
It's one of the most rewarding hobbies I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. It's challenging and it teaches patience, but the feeling you get when you wire your first piece off the wheel, then when you trim it successfully, then when you get it back from the bisque and then when you get it from the glaze...each step, each moment, they're all full of an incredible feeling of accomplishment. It's such a worthwhile skill to learn and something I'm so glad I discovered. Happiness, for me, is usually found in a ball of clay. TLDR: Try it. You won't regret it.
@@shelleyfrank6909 Thank you for your wonderful encouragement!! I'm really excited to venture into this new territory. I love that each step feels like a little victory for you. 💕
Idk if learning how a mug is made or the satisfaction watching the video is what I enjoyed most LOL. Awesome video either way & he makes it look so easy when I know it’s NOT. Thank you for posting & sharing.
I'm a noob. Love making mugs! The thing I'm the most impressed with is how little slip you produced. You waste nothing! Thanks for sharing your making process.
That was amazing to watch. Cleanest, tidiest potter, EVER! I haven't ever seen using lasers to help with uniform height. I haven't ever seen the suction cup to help with dipping. I'm wondering if you had to stand there holding the dipped cup until the glazed dried. Thanks for filming this. Super excellent job.
I've seen it in construction to make sure things are level. Thats what makes it facinating is using construction techniques for pottery. Very dedicated. 👏🏾
You know, this format reminds me of Primal Technology. He would use the captions function to explain what he was doing and why. This left the viewer with the choice to watch for enjoyment and/or education. Might work for your videos too, if you'd like to try it out.
@@OldForgeCreations oh, sorry. It was "Primitive Technology". Australian fellow. Sadly hasn't uploaded in a while. He also does a bunch of primitive pottery btw :)
I want to make mugs for my kids and grandkids for Christmas. I took my first pottery class tonight after not doing it since high school. These are beautiful mugs!
Wow those are gorgeous!! I love your glazes! I use your selsor chun for my labs in ceramic materials workshop and learning a lot from it! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks! I'm using the Anthracite, which is the nicest dark cone 6 clay I've ever found. And I saw your results with it when Matt shared the stories on instagram, they looked great!
I have wanted to do this for a long time. Just as a hobby (im retired). I acquired a Kiln and hardware. Maybe by summer 21 i will have a wheel and my shop wired to handle the kiln. Meantime im going to take some classes 😁👌
I have been making tea cups for a while, I use a quarter pound of clay, I presume with this you are using a pound? or a little under? I have my 5 pound vases down but the coffee mug is still something i am working towards, especially the handles as I don't have an extruder so all my handles are different.
@@OldForgeCreations Every thing is designed to keep human error to a minimum. Don't get me wrong am not questioning your skill set. You are absolutely amazing. How much do you keep it at 1200 C, how much do you take it out?. What kind of glaze is the one you use?I asked a lot of questions, I hope you answer. Thank you :)
@@OldForgeCreations thanks for your reply! What a brilliant idea 💡 👏 I will def take a look at your other videos...thanx...slowly working my way through them all as it is!! 🤣 Thanks again for sharing your amazing work...👍👍👍
A laser level and car sent puller?.. brilliant! Great tips! You're attention to detail is exceptional. You just don't see craftsmanship like that much these days. The finishing touches are not something that I have seen yet on any of my searches on RUclips. Well done! What is the tool you used to produce your handles (in the tool that looks like a caulking gun)?
i want to have a mug small business but pottery class here in the Philippines is so expensive XD plus omg the Kiln I've looked online and its pricey af. Guess I'll have to keep this one a dream
I'll never question the pricing on a $20 mug again.
🤣🤣 came here to say the same thing!

These handcrafted works of art might actually go for more.
@@kyleeames8229 I just saw people's pottery sites selling single mugs for $50 and more. so I come to learn to make them lol

A master class in mug creation - with snazzy t-shirts as a bonus!
Truly speaking, I regretted not taking pottery as hobby. Pottery is just super awesome !!!!
You can still do it.
You can’t regret it when you still have the opportunity to do it :)
What's stopping you from starting now?

These are lovely - they just shout out to be held in a cupped hand.
But if the hand is all ready cupped, how could you place a mug in it? These are the questions.

I absolutely live the color of the glaze. I would love to have the recipe if you would be willing to share it with me.
What is the dimensions of the mug I never know how big because of the shrinkage in the kiln. AWESOME video and glazes by the way!!
Looks like 1-1/2 width of his hand…
Cool 👀👀
It’s nice of the Predator to stop in and help
Genial !!!!
Love your videos
I will make a mug soon
Really like the anthracite clay body! Can I ask where you get it from?
At about 15:50 whats that your doing when you put it in that cooker? Whats that called please ?
May I ask if you use your bisque firing kiln for your glazed pieces as well? Or do you have 2 separate kilns?
Same kiln for both

Which material??
A vary American way of making pots mate. Absolutely lovely.

I totally enjoyed that video!! What is the clamp thing you put on your wheel to hold your mug please?
They are gorgeous do you make your own glaze.
Nice work sir. Please can this mug be sublimated?
How much do you keep it at 1200 C, how much do you take it out?. What kind of glaze is the one you use?I asked a lot of questions, I hope you answer. Thank you :)
This is amazing, how do you make the glaze? And do you have to use different oven for after the glaze?
Love this glaze. Why do you pour a diluted version of it inside and not just dunk the whole thing in the glaze bucket?
If you just dunk it faceing down, the air inside will prevent the liquid from fully coating the mug.
What kind of glaze is this? All my favorite mugs I have at home looks like this one.
Lovely! Thanks for sharing...👍would you mind sharing what those 'rings' are, that you fired your mugs on please? I've never seen those before...🤔
They're drip catchers, I did a video on them recently but have more detailed ones if you search the older videos
