Nice one Al. I didn’t really start running until my 40’s and quite quickly got into ultra marathons. Really enjoy the sense of accomplishment getting to that finish line. I’d agree it seems to suit older runners as the 40-50 age category is always really strong on the races I’ve taken part in.
I hadn’t realised you started that late - you’re class too! It supports the theory that perhaps you become mentally stronger as you get older but generally, you’re just a great runner from what I’ve seen!
Ha, not sure about that Al but cheers mate , I’ll take it 😜. I think with being late to the game I realised fast times over 5km, 10km and half marathons were a probably behind me where as running far is something you can keep improving on. I do enjoy that element of having to grit your teeth and keep going, although not so much while it’s happening 😩. Plus there’s a great camaraderie and atmosphere on an ultra 👊🏻
@@IanMcalpine-ep9fc absolutely right Ian. That feeling of gritting your teeth, sticking in and achieving something brilliant is one of the main draws of ultra events. The camaraderie is another for sure!

@@paulsummerly8203 haha, I wasn’t going to judge! Please pass on my thanks for the compliment though!
Thanks Paul! It’s certainly never too late to start. I’ve not done a marathon myself! Skipped straight to ultras. Might change that in 2024 though!
