    I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

    Bead it is good too. I bead many a swimmybaits. Glowsticking them however does scare the bass, but underwater baitfish crappie fishing with glowsticks under the water on the line is fun, very fun. Only on bass lures can you glowstick the bait. What am I talking about? Tune in to see if I will channel my energy.

      One down side of the nessies is the internal harness and the plastic of the stabilizer fins takes up so much space, you can't even get a nail weight dead center, it has to go in and to either side of the harness. They marked a circle under the chin for a spot to put a nail weight but it's right at the harness, won't go dead center.

    I found putting a small nail weight at the center of my stickbaits when neko rigging actually improved the number of bites I was getting. I needed the lure to fall a little faster and keep both ends of the stick bait moving in the fall. I held on to that little secret.

    I've noticed if you add the weights to a message from the top sometimes it wants to swim upside down I usually never go that way cuz it comes back upside down I try to insert it in the belly

    This video really showcases your knowledge as a bait-maker. Most people dont realize there is a dozen different presentations between a neko and weighted wacky changes simply by where you put your weight. The fall, the wobble, the splash and casting distance are all different. A true student of the art. Do you only make lures under your own brand or donyou work with the major manufacturers?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  8 месяцев назад

      @@MattStefanFishing Its got to be crazy building youtube, fishing and running your own label. Surely you have been approached by lure manufacturer to build baits for them? But, I am guessing you would lose recognition and creative control.

    Ah- I hadn't thought about using a nail weight to keep y chatter baits down- good idea. I noticed the other day while watching your chatter bait vid- you tend to pull your chatter bait with the rod tip angled down, then reel in the slack and repeat- sort of like some guys fish a crankbait. Are you pulling it forward just enough to feel it vibrate and then killing it?

    • @MattStefanFishing

      i was in that video, but the cadence changes based on the lake, structure, and what bass are telling me.

    I’ve been making flukes with salt on the belly half of the bottom half of the fluke and it sinks like a senko , just by itself rigged with an EWG w no weight by itself

    Storage is critical. Gets expensive if you keep them in a compartmented box that dumps. Small plastic bags are hard to handle and tear. Thick white EVA foam pads from Hob Lob hold these great and take black marker well for labeling. Holes in the EVA can be used over and over. And, EVA floats (though it can sink slowly if really loaded up w/ tungsten). Use caution if using EVA foam to store in raingear as exposed tips on tungsten nail weights are unforgiving.

      Short subtle rod twitches kind of similar to walking a frog and it walks fine for me. If you twitch too hard the nessie 5 and 7 tend to start darting all around and even turn upside down.

    In all honesty when I found out they made tungsten nail weights I thought that was the dumbest freakin thing I ever heard... like who is going to spend that kind of money for something that is going to get slung off guaranteed then I tried them and found out I'm an idiot... LOL I found a company on Amazon called "reaction tackle" and they sale them in bulk for a very reasonable price. Side note been throwing their tungsten jigs now for about a year and they're phenomenal as well... Great skirt material, tied with wire, and have a really good hook in them compared to a lot of the tungsten jigs on the market... I've caught multiple 6 and 7 pounders on them on toledo bend and Rayburn on their swim jig (which I just use to flip in sparse grass and pads), their flipping jig, and their football jigs. But I'm all about tungsten nail weights now and if you pare your wacky rig with the vmc crossover rings and put a dab of super glue over the hole when you slide in the nail weight you don't have to worry about losing them unless the worm flies off.
