It's popular with Amish and Mennonites and I know a couple of diners that served it. This was actually a request from one of my subs a while back. There are several recipes for it in our local church and Amish cookbooks as well, but this is the best. Thank you!
I have never heard of this pie but you mentioned in closing , a butterscotch pie. That is one of my favorites. My Nana made it with beaten egg white and sugar points all over the top of the pie.
Fascinating Helga. I live in Montgomery County (almost 50 years) , although I grew-up in Berks. I'd never heard of this before. Definitely will try your recipe.
Helga, My great aunt use to make what they called (snack pie). It was made by snacking very thin pie crust with a diced apple mixture in between each layer of thin crust. The pie was a tall like cake look. It was a very favorite at family gatherings. She had to make several. It was a race to get a piece before all of pie gone within minutes. I don't know if it was a Kentucky traditional pie. Have never located her famous stack pie recipe. Your Montgomery Pie looks absolutely Delightful Delicious Yummy. I just love traditional area pies. Thank you so very much for adding the recipe in Description Box. I just love your channel so very much. Love Tamson ♥️ 🙋😇
i hadn't heard of this before so i did some research. The popular thing seemed to be Apple kentucky stack cakes. However, they also had an old fashioned stack pie recipe and it looks like your great aunt merged the two. Dang, looks awesome, you know i'm going to try this! www.bakepedia.com/stack-pie/ The stack cakes had the apples in layers between the cake layers, very thin like pancakes.
@@PennsylvaniacookingBlogspot What a Great Site. I'm going to try to locate that Vintage Pie Cookbook. I collect cookbooks and that one looks really neat. I adore old fashion vintage recipes. Thank you Helga. Your the Very Best❣️ Love Tamson 💕 💕🌼 🌷😇 💖
I've never seen anything like this pie, very unique to me. I think I would really like it, even if it means, dirtying every bowl in the kitchen. LoL 😎. Nicely Done. Thanks for sharing. 😎.
I love to see you really taste your recipes. I read that on the cooking channel they always put it in there mouth, and when the camera is off of them they spit it out. I can’t watch it any more.
Thank you so much! Boy, that's a shame if they really do that. Nothing gets wasted here, and who can believe it's good if i don't like it? LOL! The food network was great in its infancy but got too commercial later, i think. I haven't watched it in years. I like watching some of them on YT, but am a fan of Cook's Illustrated and Milk Street cooking School and taste of home.
I've been raised on shoofly pie..lol!🥰..we used the Bere Rabbit brand ( the orange label) molasses..never had this version..the lemon twist on it sounds delicious...have to try this 🥧☕ thanks Helga!👍🥰
I use the cooking spray tip with honey and syrups. Nice one! That topping is a bit tricky! WOW! What a great looking pie! Thanks, Helga! Wonderful, as usual!
Very interesting...have never heard of a pie like this...sounds yummy...adding this to my seasonal baking list of things to try...Thanks Helga!....✌️💜💋
Doris is making wrap a gift so I wanted to watch your video as I wrap. That way if she doesn't like the way it came out I can blame your video that distracted me. :)
Hi Helga. Thanks for the video. Can’t wait to try this. I am a little confused in the recipe though- I didn’t see you add the second half stick of butter to the liquid portion. Did u actually put it in? Thanks!
I love this pie cake you made and I agree about the corn syrup. It's just bland. Very, very cool. Thanks for the tag and for making me a part of the pie collaboration. Very cool.
Hi Helga! Watching you from Oakland, CA. I use sugar to bake crust...after using about four times, it is slightly browned, so I use it up in baking...it's cheap! What would you drink with this decadent dessert???

Regions may vary, but this is the way all the Amish and PA Dutch in my region make it. I find that recipes vary according to region, and valley to valley. I've never had a montgomery pie with so much lemon but sounds like it would be refreshing!
