  • Before I remove the interior to start the restoration I want to see what condition everything is in. In this video, I clean and condition the leather seats to determine their condition.

Fantastic my friend, the cuts to skin should be easy enough to repair with skins on frame, you should be able to ease a chamois leather patch (larger than damage) through cut in skin, using tweezers. A wooden chopstick etc. will fit through cut to work patch into place & make flat & smooth, with patch carefully in place, small amounts of leather adhesive can be worked through hole on the chopstick, with care, the damage should be difficult to identify, strong & permanent.

Thank you so much for the tip! I will attempt a repair when I replace the lower foam. In the fronts the foam has started to disintegrate.

Keep up the awesome content, really enjoying it. Would love to see more XJ12 content, even just driving around and discussing stories of the car - just living with it in general. For me, it doesn't always need to have a mechanical aspect - i'd happily watch a video of giving the car a wash and taking it for a run. Thanks again!

Thank you Ben! I had some trips planned this summer with the XJ12 but they were sadly cancelled. There will be some driving videos this fall. I will also be redoing the fuel system in the rear of the XJ12 soon.

Adam...The split is easily repaired. I did this on my Rolls Royce Silver Cloud (same red as yours). You need a small piece of vinyl to put under the crack with a toothpick (with about an inch beyond the crack). Using a leather glue, secure the patch to the leather. I used "crack filler" to finish the repair (if needed). It can be sanded smooth. I then use leather dye to redye the seats. It can be applied with a form brush or sprayed on. I normally get the matte finish as I do like any shine. Here in the US, Leatherique is tremendously respected! They also have a leather conditioner that works well (much better than most).

I will try that Richard, thank you! I did something similar to a Daimler interior before.
Maybe I'll try just to dye the part that I fix since I think I'd like to to dye all the seats. So far I really like their slight patina look.

I think the original leather is more industrious. It's a thicker more durable grade of leather that car makers aren't using anymore due to it's higher costs. Anytime you can save the original interior, it's a win in my book!

I'm glad someone agrees! I'd rather have a little worn original leather than new.

Thanks for the videos......they are great. I was wondering if you would be able to show how to swap the rear shocks on an XJS. Thanks

We use soap flakes, „savon de Marseille“, and a nylon brush. The Megiulars product is great, if the leather isn‘ t really old and dirty.
