We had a Japanese exchange student at my Canadian highschool. Her mother almost disowned her when she returned home. She gained 30 pounds living with her host family. Canadian snacks are delicious!
Had a similar thing. Except it was a family that moved over from Japan. And every week they'd by a thing of maple that in my house would last at least 2 months. They just loved it, or its like crack to them.
If you guys like the maple syrup lollies, you'd love to do a taffy pull. You lay out snow and pour warm maple syrup over it in a thin line, then take a Popsicle stick and roll the cooling syrup around the stick. Sweet, sticky mess. I'm not a huge fan of maple syrup, which may be un-Canadian, as I find it too sweet. Glad you enjoyed the Canadian treats!
I did that one night while I was visiting Quebec for school trip. I was really sick for the rest of the night after that. I can’t even look at real syrup anymore.
It's called "taffy pull"? That doesn't make sense. I don't know what we call it here in Ottawa (maple syrup on a stick?), but "taffy pull" is something you do during the making of taffy. The sugar "dough" is looped and pulled over and over and over again over a long nail, to add air bubbles. That's what makes it "pulled taffy". Or that's my understanding of it.
Hi guys. Make sure to go over to The Review Diary and check out what we sent them. We sent them 3 things that completely took them by surprise. It's hilarious!
Canada has many Stores now that have Asian candy and foods Like Pocky and jellies Aswell every store has American candies And you can find UK shops that sell Snowballs and Curly wirlys I hope next time im on my way to Phillippines from Canada i'll have a stop over in Japan for a day or 2
Wow I'm so happy you enjoyed Canadian treats. I'm from Canada and I love them too. Especially hickory sticks they have been my favourite since I was a kid
MINE! he says, I can so agree!! Hickory is related to Walnuts. My late aunt had hickory trees all in her front yard. They smelled amazing in summer the entire tree is aromatic, and the nuts though really hard to crack and containing little nutmeat are simply superior in every way to a walnut for flavour!!
Lol I love Satoshi keeps hiding the chips, Im surprised he didnt hide the Maple Cookies on you as well since they were his number 1! Im from Canada, and everyone I know loves Coffee Crisp.
Yay! I loved this video! I'm Canadian and Coffee Crisp and Hickory Sticks are some of my favourites. You really need to try another Canadian favourite of mine, a Caramilk bar.
Canada is just across the lake from us here, yet I've never seen most of these products before. I love the maple syrup cookies! Mmm! Thanks for sharing the fun guys!
When it comes to Ketchup chips, Old Dutch is where it's at. I'm glad they decided to send you those ones instead of Lays. All the other video I've seen on Canadian Food tests have been Lays and a lot of people don't like them. And they are purple looking, which is of putting.
I have to say I love watching your videos for the content but what made me subscribe in the first place is your interactions with each other, you guys are very funny.
TabiEats - When I come to Tokyo I will bring next to Swiss Chocolate bars some "Kirschstängeli"... But the Kirschstängeli (Engl. Cherry liquor batons) are "dangerous" because of the Kirsch (40% alcohol)....
I love your enthusiasm towards each flavour for each snack. You guys made me hungry at the end of your video, had to go by Hickory chips and chocolate bars. :p Nice video!
Lived in Tokyo for three years, and as a Canuck watching this, I am intrigued. I need some green tea flavoured ice cream and bean-paste filled cakes... 😝
Can't believe I hadn't seen this video! This person sent you some good stuff. Hickory Sticks are so good. It's true, on a burger they provide wonderful sakutto and smokey flavour. (Smoking meats at home is pretty popular in Canada, or at least in Ontario, and hickory is one of the best woods to use because of the flavours it emparts to the meat). A pure maple lollipop is the equivalent of a tasty Canadian sugar shack tradition: poor a line of maple syrup on fresh clean snow, let it cool until it starts to get really sticky, then roll it up on a stick and pop it into your mouth for an all natural lolly!
Satoshi is getting sassy - love it! This was a fun tasting! I think I'd love the chips and the ice wine chocolate. Thanks for another great video. Also my thoughts go out to everyone in Kumamoto-ken.
+Yoshiko Yeto thank you so much for your kindness Yoshiko san. Satoshi's sassiness is definitely coming out. I'll think the sass will come out even more as time goes by. Uh oh.
Oh if I didn't have anything else in this haul I'd want those Maple Syrup cookies. I love those things. I had those when I was a child and the taste was so memorable to me and I loved them so much I have been searching for them ever since. I have never again found them anywhere. The whole video was good though and everything looked so tasty. By the way I did go over and check out the other video and also subscribed. They are super fun to watch. Thank you!
+Susie LaLonde they were so good! Satoshi never picks a cookie as his favorite. And thanks so much for subscribing to The Review Diary. They are fun and we are doing another one with them very soon. Have a great weekend my friend.
I feel so hungry!!! Funny that you mention the Napolitan dish, because I just saw a wonderful woman make that on youtube today!!! :-D looked so good! I am all about those bbq chips! nom nom
Your videos are always so fun. You will have a sugar headache the next day after that many treats. Now you need to try poutine and also nanaimo bars (my favorites). Have a wonderful day guys.
The Lays brand ketchup chips are way better than the Old Dutch ketchup chips! And if you both had maple-sugar candies you would be in heaven! Plus, there is another variety of maple cookies that is two of those maple cookies you received put together with maple cream inside. They're delicious!
wow...I never imagined that people in Japan would like, or even know about maple syrup. It is so cool to see how the world is coming closer together bc of the internet!
Maple syrup is sold in a lot of countries around the world. :) In countries like Japan that have to import maple syrup rather than produce it, it's very expensive to buy, so a lot of people know of it but don't buy much of it.
I'm always happy to see people liking the same foods I like. Makes me think that despite the language and cultural differences we're all pretty much the same.
Wow such an amazing box of goodies!! Did you see the hickory chips again Shinichi lol? OMG those maple syrup cookie sounds out of this world yummy!! Hahaha Mr Big is such a great reference!! I LOVED this so so much!! Sorry my friends I'm gotta bombard you with comments again lol, having a relaxed Monday night in to catch up on your videos and it's off to a great start! 🙌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You guys are so cute. Haha. Everything looks so nice, even Justin is interested! Lol. The Icewine Chocolate is interesting. I would love to try it if I have a chance. Dark chocolate is my favourite! :)
You may not have a smoky BBQ chips but you DO have wasabi chips and those are great :) You know, it is really nice watching videos like this and seeing people share in the experience of another culture through food. As a person who has always found food to be an amazing way to explore the world, I thank you for making these videos.
Glad you tried some quality confections with such enthusiastic joy! Hershey's operated a chocolate bar factory in Smith Falls, Ontario, since beginning operations in Pennsylvania. It catered to the Canadian market, which is one of the few places where butterscotch runs neck to neck with chocolate among women. I enjoy butterscotch toffee myself. I believe the old factory is now used to cultivate medical marijuana. Crispy Crunch is the last hand-made candy bar and bears little in common with either Babe Ruth or Butterfinger bars from the US. My favourite potatoe chip is the Poutine Ripple Chip but it's hard to find. Nanaimo Bars (layered chocolate brownie - custard - chocolate fudge) are not sold as a packaged confection but can be purchased in the baked goods section of most grocery stores. Very popular here.
Glad you guys liked canadian snacks! I also love Mr.Big bars, I probably eat at least 1 every week haha! Too bad you guys didn't get a can of pure maple syrup because we're in spring and it's actually "the" maple syrup season, it would've been freshly made!
+Alexchaos ohhh lucky you! I wish I could have a Mr Big bar once a week! But then again, Id probably get super fat! lol. Oh gosh, maple syrup season. That sounds like heaven on earth!!!!!!
Hello from Canada! Glad to hear you guys like our ketchup chips, in America, they get the oposite reaction. most people think they are too strongly flavoured. also, coffee crisp is my favorite chocolate bar. 😊
We use to make maple syrup it takes a long time. If you are going to buy it pick the light colored one that is the fist to come off the trees its the best flavour
Hickory sticks have that effect on people. Once you start to eat them, you can't stop. lol
Yeah but them like ringolos, once you go through half the bag, it starts to taste like cardboard.
Hickory sticks #1
Nitesraven ikr
Nitesraven fr lol
Yep
We had a Japanese exchange student at my Canadian highschool. Her mother almost disowned her when she returned home. She gained 30 pounds living with her host family. Canadian snacks are delicious!
omg that's so funny!
Poutine isn't kind to the waist line either.
lmao
Had a similar thing. Except it was a family that moved over from Japan. And every week they'd by a thing of maple that in my house would last at least 2 months. They just loved it, or its like crack to them.
You need the extra insulation up north. That's my excuse anyways.
I think this is my favorite snack video you guys have done. Satoshi is so adorable when he's trying to horde the snacks! "Mine!"
+Peggy Christie ahh thanks! Yeah he wanted all those to himself!
+TabiEats Hickory Sticks are good.

If you guys like the maple syrup lollies, you'd love to do a taffy pull. I'm not a huge fan of maple syrup, which may be un-Canadian, as I find it too sweet. Glad you enjoyed the Canadian treats!
funny, I read about that when I read the Little House on the Prairie books
I did that one night while I was visiting Quebec for school trip. I was really sick for the rest of the night after that. I can’t even look at real syrup anymore.
Not canadian...Indigenous!
It's called "taffy pull"? That doesn't make sense. I don't know what we call it here in Ottawa (maple syrup on a stick?), but "taffy pull" is something you do during the making of taffy. I keep mine in the freezer they are good that way
Hi guys. Make sure to go over to The Review Diary and check out what we sent them. We sent them 3 things that completely took them by surprise. It's hilarious!

As good as Hickory Sticks are, Lawry's real cheddar cheezies are the best Canadianna in the chip isle.
Alberta has them too
You guys were fun to watch! Glad you liked some treats from my country :)
Thanks! We loved everything we tried!
MINE! he says, I can so agree!! Hickory is related to Walnuts. My late aunt had hickory trees all in her front yard. They smelled amazing in summer the entire tree is aromatic, and the nuts though really hard to crack and containing little nutmeat are simply superior in every way to a walnut for flavour!!
+keeperofthegood wow, we've never had nuts from the hickory tree before. Now we are curious!
Lol I love Satoshi keeps hiding the chips, Im surprised he didnt hide the Maple Cookies on you as well since they were his number 1!
Im from Canada, and everyone I know loves Coffee Crisp.

When it comes to Ketchup chips, Old Dutch is where it's at. I'm glad they decided to send you those ones instead of Lays. All the other video I've seen on Canadian Food tests have been Lays and a lot of people don't like them. And they are purple looking, which is of putting.

TabiEats - When I come to Tokyo I will bring next to Swiss Chocolate bars some "Kirschstängeli"... But the Kirschstängeli (Engl. Cherry liquor batons) are "dangerous" because of the Kirsch (40% alcohol)....
Frederick König we'll take it all! I'm sure anything you bring is fine. Enjoy your weekend my friend!

Hershey's operated a chocolate bar factory in Smith Falls, Ontario, since beginning operations in Pennsylvania.
