- In this video we take a look at the Hughes And Kettner Tubemeister 18 head. This little amp is a beast and it records direct tremendously! It has a "Red Box" DI that works great in the studio or through the front end of a sound system for gigs. At the end of the video I was able to conjure up some tones that were very similar to Van Halen's Fair Warning album. I hope you like the video. Please subscribe!

Sounds so natural through a direct input....added to my dream list of gear!
It does! 😎🎸
Picked up the Tubemiester Deluxe 20....sounds awesome! Love the overdrive channel for factory tube and the Boost Lead is even better.
Dude, that thing sounds SO FREAKIN GOOD. Now, let’s point out how great your playing is, & right there at the end, the brown sound entered the building. For real. Also, I’ve never heard anybody play the intro to Mean Street as well as you did, and you were just messin around. You do Eddie proud, man. Love your videos.
Thanks man! Glad you stuck around to the end! I got inspired when I heard that tone. I was like "welp... there it is!" I think I'll do another visit on the means street intro in a few days. Thanks for the kinds words dude, and for the support. 😎🎵🤟🏻
Great full sound, not a harsh EL84 tone. Excellent find brother 😍👍
Beautiful tone. Nice channel. Cool video, bro.
Marty after seeing this video I knew my local shop had one, so I went first thing today and bought it. It really sounds good.
Thanks
Jessie
Awesome man!! Glad you like it. I hope you are still enjoying it a couple days later!?! Thoughts?
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker oh yes, being a fellow Tennessean, I’m surprised you did not hear me today, playing some Van Halen DOA. Had it cranked.
@@jessienidiffer9440 yeh man!! 🤟🏻😎🤟🏻
That amp sounds great Marty!
Thanks man, I really love this thing. It's got a lot of great tones and it's powerful!
My son bought for me. from a friend of his,H&K solid state 80w head and 4x12 w/celestion speakers for 150.00 buck! Thanks Marty
Awesome man!!! 😎🤟🏻
Is your son’s friend selling any more gear? Lol that’s a hell of a deal!
@Tyler Johnston Guitar his friend, was moving. He didn't want to haul it. I lucked out! Thanks
Come to think of it, I’ve never been disappointed by any H&K amp I’ve heard.
WOW!! What a Sound & Tone ! Loving This Marty 😁👍❤️
Great amps! I owned a Tubemeister 36 a few years ago, but sold it. Big regret for sure. The other thing that’s cool, is it’s cathode biased. Change the power tubes yourself with no biasing. Best to get a matching set though. Hope to hear this in more videos. 🤘🏼
Best I've ever heard any HK sound. Never been a fan of them until now. Interesting Demo. HK always made great stuff, I just never gelled with it. This sounds very good though.
Wow man , interesting amp and amazing sounding amp
Thank you! They are very compact but just incredible!!
I bought one of these a matter of weeks after impulse buying a Tubemeister 5. The TM5 sounds great too but with fewer features. I'd always viewed H&K amps as clean amps, but like you've shown here, they're fantastic rock amps and the RedBox means killer tones without having to lug around a cab and all the hassle of using mics. If you're using a cab, this thing is loud AF. At home I can practice and jam along with songs on 1W mode through my Marshall 2x12. This amp has saved me thousands by not having to buy a Friedman.
My tube app died and I’ve decided to replace it with a small wattage head and a 2 x 12 or 4 x 12 cabinet and this review was super helpful. I think I’m gonna go with the Hughes and Kettner 18 as you recommend. It was up against the. Mesa boogie transatlantic, which is quite a bit more expensive, or the marshall orogin.
wow - great playing - good stuff!
I have a Tubemeister 18 and I absolutely love it. I found it in my local pawn shop for $250. I stole it 😅😅. Ya can't beat a price like that. This has built in Redbox and autobias for the tubes. You can also adjust the watts to keep the high gain sounds at bedroom volume. This amp is just badass. Crystal clear cleans and searing high gain and a lead boost 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Look like 12K is just around the corner BTW. Congrats!
I've had a tubemeister 18 for quite a few years now. Have sold all other guitar amps except my Kemper.
Love my TM18
Damnit Marty now I want one!
Hi Marty love the channel! What kind of tubes are in your tubemeister? Keep rocking!
i have the tubemeister 40 deluxe and grandmeister 40 deluxe and just love them 🎸🙏
Tone contols need a lot of proper adjustment, but once you have found your sweet spots, you get excellent tones, especially for the money. Even the red box works fine, but I wished, this amp also had a separate, unsymmetrical line out too with the complete power amp signal plus a separate 16 ohms speaker output.
It also runs pretty hot fast, but is seems to stand it without any problems, as EL84's anyway work fine if they are running hot. Treble sounds fine, very transparent, but also with some nice sweetness, even at high gain settings. In combination with Lead Boost you can adjust almost eveything between Fender/Vox cleans and hot-rod Marshall high.gain, even hardcore Metal tones.
You don't hear about them much,Alex lifeson from rush used em
Sounds killer man. It sounds like you can pull off some early Kiss with this one too!
Yeh in would say so. It has some mid range bark to it that voices it perfectly for most of the gritty and heavy rock stuff. Even better through a cab. It's a sweet amp man!
Hey I bought a Tubemeister 18 for home use after your two vids. It's developed a little problem now though (lead boost remains always on, foot pedal or no) and I think it's behind the switch socket. I'm down in Huntsville - do you have a competent amp tech up there you'd recommend?
Killer tone 🤘
Great video...found one of these tonight on Facebook up for £320 is it worth a go do you reckon ? 🤘
Bought one back in 2014. Beautiful tone. Gets laughed at when put on a Marshall stack, but even at five KW this thing is loud.
i had one and traded it ..really want it back
Hey Marty. How are you today man?
That hughs and ketner lunchbox amp head is next on my wishlist.
I love the way that it lights up. Doesn't it also power down to one watt so that you can use it for practice? That's if you have oversensitive neighbours 😉
hey man! Yes its does. It cranks down to.1 watt! It has 3 settings for wattage. It's very nice and a great sounding amp. I agree it looks so cool!!
Though I’m waiting for my FM9 this is cool!!
Hi, whats the song name your playing at 5.20? Its a nice melody good for a looper and playing over. Thank you
Sounds good man..of course all the tone is in the fingers right? or was that the wood ?.....👍
Thanks man. There is some truth that, I would agree!
I had one I liked it but it got so hot you could cook eggs on the top of it does yours get real hot on the very top?
Yeh dude it does get hot!!!
Sounds Great Marty. Ive been thinking of a new amp to go with my new guitar. I cant get super loud in this neighborhood but with that attenuator I could probably get away with one of those. There's a 15 watt 5150 on marketplace in my area but I don't have any knowledge of how they sound at all.
Go with the EVH
Amp sounds good, but not even close to the V-H "brown sound".
You want that tone? Get a Friedman BE amp.
I got one. They rule! 🤟🏻😎🤟🏻
Everyone should care about slave labor look what’s going on at the moment really who cares?
I just bought one of these for $400. I'm excited for it to get here.
It's a great little amp!! Sounds amazing.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker It should arrive today. Can't wait
Sounds great. Nice playing. Do you think the Tubemeister 20, 40 and Grandmeister sound as good ?
Very cool
