When you reach tier three of the Mimic ability, you get the power to turn into the robots of Talos 1...
    These bots can fly.
This means that in areas with those robots, you can fly around for as long as your brain juice will last you. I tried flying to the top of a VERY high pillar in, I believe it was the hardware labs? Anywho, I just wanted to see how high the game would let me go, and to my suprise, upon reaching the top, I found a small amount of loot. Just some ammo and fruit, nothing super special, but the fact that they made something to reward players who went exploring was amazing. The areas are so chuck full of secrets and mysteries, I woudn't be suprised if we'd missed a little container somewhere.
The game hands you a bunch of tools, and says: Have fun.
Do you want to carry around a turret that you can upgrade and repair, and upon seeing enemies, you deploy it AND become a turret yourself? Sure! Have fun, become the gatling gun of your dreams, and enjoy the limitless ammo.
Spell slinger? Sure! Enjoy your alien powers!
Total pacifist? Possible! Really annoying, but possible!
A fun challenge is ONLY using one active alien power to beat the game. You may only turn into objects to sneak, or turrets to fight. No using weapons or tools. Good luck.
Much like Dishonored, the difficulty is a player choice, and not needed for achievements.
Do you WANT to play at the hardest difficulty, and not use ANY neuromods at all?! Sure! They're not needed at all, have fun!
It never felt like a railroad, it felt like a loosely walked path, that said "go in that general direction"
How, was always up to you, the Player

Well said. I finished the game once but there is obviously so much more to do. I finished it, but I barely *played* it.
This was actually the first game I ever played on the PS4, it was free so I probably would have not played it otherwise. One of the most memorable moments for me was having the bright idea to actually check out the space shuttle in the distance. For most of the game I had assumed it was part of the background like the Earth, or the moon. Like you, I figured, 'what the hell', how far can I go? Well when I realised there was another piece of the puzzle there I knew I had stumbled onto a bloody beautiful game.

I said it when the game came out and I'll say it again: The GLOO Gun is on-par with Half Life's Gravity Gun as one of the most inventive weapons in a video game ever. God of War's Leviathan Axe got a lot of praise for being so multi-dimensional, but it's nowhere as close as to what the GLOO Gun offers in terms of creativity and player expression of intent.
Prey got totally overshadowed in 2017 by Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, and Horizon Zero Dawn, but it was my GOTY for that year despite having played and loved all those other big hitters in the year. I still do multiple preythroughs of the game with different mods and constraints. Mooncrash is an absolutely stellar expansion and Typhon Hunter can result in some hilarious shenanigans.

Prey is one of the best games I have ever played. Hands down.
I love how much thought and care Arkane put into each and every facet of this game. For instance- Talos one is designed like a space station that people could legit live in and do their research. How would goods move between different points in the station? The GUTS tunnel system. How would you generate oxygen and water for the entire station? Must be the reason for the Arboretum and the water filtration system’s existence. How would such a huge space station generate power for its needs? There is an entire section of the station that’s a reactor for this purpose. Between the game’s main story and many side missions, you will probably have a mental map of the entire station and all its shortcuts that you’ll probably use a shortcut to avoid the longer path.
Find a locked door and you haven’t invested in the hacking skill? No worries. Use a gloo gun to find a vent or a recycler charge to remove a heavy item. There is always another way. God! I could go on about this game for hours!
My only complaint about this game might be the loading screens, but at this point it really seems like a nitpick.
Seriously though. Arkane Studios might probably one of the best devs in the industry. I just wish more people would give Immersive sims like this a chance.

I think they botched Dishonored 2 with regards to its release state. The game was heavily unoptimized on PC and even now my PC still has trouble running it even though it can easily handle other games that demand much more resources. It could have been great if it ran well.

Its just too good to be a popular game. Its just like system shock 2.. Anybody who played it back then said it was the best game ever to be made, but it was way too complex, too farfetched to be enjoyed by your typical audience and sell well
Thats why the immersive sims genre died it the early 2000, and thats why its probably never going to come back to life again after that quick arkane revival

    • @AI-jl5kp
      @AI-jl5kp 4 года назад +1

@@erradate6425 I dont agree, the immersive sim made a pretty big comeback in the late 2000s/2010s. Arkane's dishonored and Prey but also 2 Deus Ex games and 2 Bioshocks (these were more fps and I dont think you can call infinite an immersive sim).
