    Corrections:
    - The current 2024 Tesla Model Y no longer comes equipped with ultrasonic sensors
    - G6 in Australia uses XPILOT 2.5 not 4.0
    - G6 DC charging speed 10-80% is quoted at less than 20 minutes on the XPENG AU website
    - Boot measurements differ because Tesla capacity is measured to the roof whereas Xpeng is measured to height of seats

I am not sure about that, it has been done in the US as the LR NMC is US made, the CATL battery being Chinese made does not receive tax credits. My preference would be to move to some of the higher density LFP options which the Chinese seem to be standardising on, these appear to be the best of all worlds prior to solid state, which, may only go into higher end cars initially. Furthermore the US Panansonic battery seems to be a fair bit better than the LG NMC we get here.

I note that there was no mention of the different methods used in quoting the boot/cargo volumes in each vehicle. Simply reading off and displaying the quoted figures seems to suggest the Model Y is more than double the Xpeng boot space. Tesla no doubt use the SAE standard (a standard that gives larger readings), along with being measured to the roof. Most (no not all), vehicles sold in Australia are quoted with the more realistic VDA standard, which aside from giving overall smaller numbers, is only measured to the top of the back seat. I’ve no doubt, based on the numbers (particularly the Xpeng measurement), that the model Y cargo area is bigger, but it is not double.

Thanks for another awesome vid Tom. Being one of only a select few Aussies to have sat in and driven both the XPeng G6 and a BYD Sealion 7, which would you lean towards personally? Given that you are already a BYD owner so may have some inherent personal bias good or bad; which is fine with me as im also a Seal owner and leaning towards the Sealion.
Have you already done a vid for the Kia EV5? Lots of noise mid year that all petered out to radio silence....

The BYD SL7 test drive I did in Xi’an, China comes with a few qualifiers: I’m not sure whether we’ll get the same EVO platform like the CDM. SL7 in some export markets eg HK are being sold with the older 3.0 platform. Furthermore I didn’t really drive it under real world conditions as you saw lol 😅
But from my overall impression, if you want a more classic fit and finish then the SL7 is the way to go whereas the G6 is for those who prefer a more minimalistic contemporary finish
I haven’t driven the EV5 yet but will try to do a review shortly if I can get my hands on a press loaner

While the base Tesla RWD is comparable in price to the SR G6, I would have to change either the paint/rims or seat/rims as the Tesla with no options looks lifeless and dull. So if I opt for Red paint and the 20" wheels, I would pay an extra AUD 5,640. And with Autopilot, the total amount for the options would be AUD 10,807. So for an even match, I would spend 66,707 for the Tesla Y versus 54,800 for the G6.

I've owned my 2023 MY RWD now for over a year, and as much as I love it I think the biggest bug bear for me is how "sluggish" it is off the line - at least up until about 40-50kph. If there was an option to increase the amount of torque it could deliver from 0 to 60kph I would pay for that. But I know Tesla won't change this for various reasons. Only solution is to upgrade to an AWD model (Tesla or other). This new G6 is definitely looking VERY compelling! Reviews I've seen so far still don't convince me it's worth choosing over a Tesla.......yet.

    Xpeng G6 inclusive features:
    Larger interior space on Xpeng

Straight summon on G6, Tesla smart summon adds $5k as part of enhanced summon (but which has additional ADAS capability)
Longer warranty and faster charging on G6.
Ride comparison, Xpeng softer, steering less direct and interior noise the Xpeng is slightly quieter (poll of online youtube drives)
Xpeng G6 does not have latest tech from Xpeng such as the Turin chip or 4k cameras. Uses only one Orin chip compared to two on vehicles for local market. Xpeng are transitioning to ADAS software and hardware setup, moving away from lidar. No roadmap yet for development of G6 ADAS or AI for Australian market.

The G6 being RWD really need to compare to RWD of the Y even in long range format therefore the RWD Y is about 2kW less powerful than the long range G6 RWD as the G6 has no AWD option(yet) we can't really compare it to the AWD Y. My question is how does each company measure their capacity as 800+L is alot so that is allmost as though they have gone to the roof unlike the G6 which may have just gone to the top of the rear seats, hopefully Bjorn has done a banana box test as that will show true capacity even if it's overall with rear seats folded down.
Xpeng has been in Europe for awhile already though so that helps to know how the long term ownership is for western ownership. ChatGPT didn't take into effect where the money goes for Tesla and the CEO's political leaning and who he supports and that people may not want their money going towards supporting that.

Yes good point about the storage ... it does depend on how you measure it. With regards to philosophies of companies and respective owners, how far down the rabbit hole does one want to go right?

The Tesla brand has been made toxic. Time for an acceptable comparo brand as a benchmark. IMHO.

Whilst I'm more than happy to see more competition, there is nothing toxic about the Tesla brand. Elon is toxic and yes there are people who will avoid Tesla because of him, but it seems most people are smart enough to realise the Elon != Tesla
