Blade Ponds Me too. There was supposed to be a movie of LOS but they replaced it with Skylosers I hope the movie comes out one day too because directors are still trying to get the rights to it.
The current holders of Spyro said to "never say never" when it comes to making another game. So, if we ask enough, and keep an interest, there might just be another game. I hope so to, thinking back on all three and piecing them together gets me depressed.
With the remaster of the OG trilogy it is very unlikely to see a fourth Legend of Spyro game, unfortunately. And I almost cried at the end of the second game because of the damn music.
As someone born in '91 and enjoyed the original trilogy, I actually loved TLOS trilogy more. I thought it was a smart decision. The original spyro fans had grown up, so why not grow up the story/gameplay/art design, too? I also only saw footage of a new beginning which leaves me questioning if you played the next two. The last game saw an art change, dev change, and over all was such a huge upgrade to the first two in the trilogy that it'd be hard to play the first two again. Dawn of the dragon was god damn amazing and I honestly would recommend TLOS trilogy to any one just for that one game.
Jarek4GamingDragon That's so weird. I'm basically the opposite of you lol. I played the Legend trilogy long before the originals, and although for a long time a was fandom-level invested, I much prefer the originals now. Everything from the music, gameplay, colour palettes, Spyro's design and personality. I think DOTD had nice visuals, but felt repetitive and like God of War clone to me and in hindsight the overall storyline of the trilogy feels quite unoriginal honestly despite trying so hard to be really in-depth. That probably sounds really harsh, but they're still fairly good games in my opinion and I'm still nostalgic for them. I guess preferences and what people find fun and captivating in a game are all subjective though, despite even critics scores, so to each their own haha.
The Legend Trilogy really wasn't that bad :/ I prefer both Trilogies for different reasons. The original is for humor and light-hearted fun, while the newer one is more serious and emotional.
Took the words right out of my mouth It makes me wish Legend of Spyro came back as a subseries of Spyro. So we can have classic OG Spyro AND Legend Spyro for those who want a more Fantasy/adventure story
The Legend of Spyro was the best in the series. It made me fall in love in Spyro. I loved the legend of spyro and it was the best in my opinion. I will forever miss the legend of spyro.
That's the thing that gets me too. Hell, they even denied them to be used in other games or contests. Naughty Dog was celebrating their 15 year anniversaty and wanted to hold a fan art contest, when they asked to use Crash Bandicoot for the celebration, they got denied. For Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, Crash and Spyro should've been shoe-ins to be playable characters but Activision said "NOPE!" It's just dumb, especially when they didn't do much with the IPs in the first place.
Dovahkiff There are 3 possibilities. 1: greed and marketing, 2: Bringing kid's attention towards toys they're making, and 3: They think they're making spyro the dragon better to the newcomers (kids, because Activison sees spyro as a kiddie game) who had no knowledge of him.
@@xenodraws2397 how does TLOS have more fantasy elements? OG got fauns, satyrs, heck, magic! Not to mention DRAGONS! I don't really see how either one can have more fantasy than the other
the legend of spyro is not really that dark in my opinion, the vibe and the tense situation/art style was different but the story was not all that dark. It was your typical fantasy main character facing difficulities and beating the bad guy just like in the original spyro, just less goffiness to it. It was a 7+ game afterall
I bet it wasn't that bad,but take it with another character. Let's just say what if Mario instead of being a happy plumber adventurer was a dark vigilante in a city where crime happens all the time. It's Mario,he doesen't need a complicated story
@@capitatecab6049 That's not how the Legends series wad it was spyro with all hid goofiness but with a real interesting story with little art style changes and mechanical changes that I honestly liked more than the og
LoTR is one of a million fantasy stories with the Hero's Journey trope, you could compare Frodo to Luke Skywalker and make it sound like Star Wars ripped off LoTR. The Legend of Spyro trilogy is Spyro the dragon but on thr Hero's Journey. You only use LoTR because of the VA.
Spyro is not like Frodo. Frodo got scared an awful lot and even dropped his sword. Understandable though, since he was young and inexperienced. Legend Spyro showed nothing short of bravery. He was always willing to put his life on the line despite how frightened Sparx was. There was nothing Spyro wasn't willing to do. And that goes for all the Spyros. They don't ever quit. None of them do. And more defending of the combat system in the Legend of Spyro. I recently found out in the Eternal Night that the combat is best done flexibly. If you just use the same combo over and over again you're sure to lose in the fights. That's why I was losing so much. I just mashed the buttons and I kept dying. But when I came to study what moves worked and keep changing attacks between hitting the attack button, ramming enemies, knocking them in the air and whale on them I died a lot less and took care of even the blunder tails with ease. Now I can flatten a blunder tail in ten seconds. Second time you see the blunder tails: "Awe come on! I hate these things." Last one you face now that you've beat them so many times: "Here's Johnny!" In Dawn of the Dragon the combat grew intensely. You could chew toy them, use fast or strong attacks alternate for different combos swing enemies, throw enemies, knock them in the air, slam them into the ground and stomp on them, get them to work for you with Cynders shadow powers and I enjoyed it to the fullest extent. I studied all of them and didn't even need a game guide or instruction manual (because I never had either). It felt more like a zelda game when you had to find red and green crystals to boost your magic energy and health bars. And I enjoyed it. There were ways to make combat easier. To fight those red things called wyverns in air levels you could just breath onto them with Cynders cyclone attack for a split second and they would fall into that invisible boundary that kills them instantly. It's so funny whenever that happens. If you know everything about the game you could speed run it with ease. I can speed run it with ease. I know the locations of everything in Dawn of the Dragon. I've one-hundred percented that game countless times and still enjoy it. The two player thing was the best. And I still want more. I want there to be a PS4 remake of the Legend of Spyro games. And all of them improved on in not just bug fixes and graphic enhancement but an expansion of things you could do in it. Four player challenges with Ember and Flame making an appearance would be highly appreciated for me. Survival challenges. I want a lot of challenges with medals and scores, achievements, stealth, fixed plot holes. They need to take advantage of that.
Simon Briggs i have to agree with your assesment. Plus Frodo always had a choice. he could have stayed quiet and let someone else carry the ring but didn't. Spyro didn't really have the same choice. and the combat system was fun when you figured out to not stand still like a rock and hope to win.
I agree with you WITH ALL OF IT although I'm q little scared that if they made a remake of The Legend Of Spyro Trilogy it will not be as good.. or idk ruin it?? Jmmm but it sure as hell could be interesting :3
blue dragon King of all dragons, yeah but after the first game, the appearances of spyro declined further and further, the last few games just forgot about him, and for ffs spyro wasn’t even in the centre of the box, it was that dark elf that was.
I have to say, going into this video I was fairly strongly convinced it was just gonna be typical fanboy bashing on the Legend Of trilogy for being different. But I have to say, I have a lot of respect for the way you handled things; not just bashing it for being different and being able to admire where the game succeeds, even without personally liking them. As someone who actually grew up with the Legend Of trilogy I'm probably a bit biased myself, but I can respect someone willing to play devil's advocate to things they don't personally care for. (At we can all agree that Skylanders shouldn't have anally fisted Spyro's franchise, amirite?) Have a like, my dude.
In defense of The Legend of Spyro trilogy... I loved it. Then I played the OG Trilogy and thought... "OK, how'd it change?" Then I think: OH IT'S AN ALTERNATE TIMELINE
You should check out the Rebirth theory (canadian guy eh has a good vid on it). I think it makes a lot more sense. I personally like the idea that 1998 Spyro goes on to become Malefor (Just see the way he acts, considering letting Bianca die for example, not to mention the fact he's a mass murderer) So maybe not an alternate timeline, just different "Spyros"
Games Done Badly TLoS was Spyro done in another vain, not a collect-a-thon, but a new experience. Although Skylanders is nothing close to the source material except for a redesign. Spyro's cameo in Crash Twinsanity is more Spyro then Skylanders.
There wasn't much wrong with....the second and third games, they just weren't anything special, and definitely were not Spyro. They just felt like God of War but toned down for children and given a Spyro skin. The first game was just garbage; the combat was horribly repetitive, the story was cliched as fuck, certain parts of the story made no fucking sense whatsoever (he literally just GETS ice breath out of nowhere with no explanation) and there were tons of glitches and just broken/unfinished things about the game. Even when I first played it as a kid, I hated it. It was awful. The second game was only slightly better, and it wasn't until the third game that they finally got their shit straight and decided to make an okay-ish game.....but I don't want a cheap God of War ripoff, I want Spyro. I don't want cheesy buttonmashing combat, I want exploration and collectathons and platforming and...you know, an actual Spyro game.
I still always loved the legend of spyro trilogy, but i consider it a sort of different universe from the classics, basically im saying i dont think the classics and the modern are connected, they just share characters. I loved both and im happy with both but not together as a collective thing.
Yeah, the Legend Of series is good, but associating the OG trilogy and TLOS is like associating water with fire. They just do not mix. I love the OG trilogy, and even the GBA games made sense with the franchise... But TLOS feels like it should be a franchise of its own.
Actually, I really prefer "The Legend of Spyro" than the old Spyro games. Even if the gameplay isn't really good, the story and characters are what made those games great! If I were to play those old Spyro games, I don't think I would like them. And I don't talk from nostalgia, since I played 2 of them on my GBA recently! They took another direction, but I agree that this is completely different and should have create a new dragon character and a whole new series name, so everybody wouldn't compare those two different trilogies.
Same, the story and characters are what made the Legendary Trilogy and as for the game play, I never really minded it, I’m always indifferent about gameplay in general, and the OG trilogy, I know I would have put them to the side and barely touched them. The only original Spyro game I played before Reignited Trilogy was A Hero’s Tail and I liked it, but still liked the Legend games better. As for the Reignited Trilogy, I did enjoy playing them, but boy did I go nearly insane with frustration a lot, especially with the flying levels, that skateboard race cause I suck at racing, and Hunter’s stupid popcorn crystal mini game. So, I guess I’m automatically speaking from Nostalgia, but I know what I like and and the Legend has always been a big part of my life since fourth or fifth grade, it introducing me to both Spyro and dragons in general, so it will always reign king in my book.
Okay, loved this video, but I have to point this one fact out.Activision didn't acquire the rights to Spyro until Dawn of the Dragon (the last game in the Legend trilogy) was well over halfway done. The Legend series was made by Vendidi Universal as a new take on Spyro because the series was floundering since the PS1 era. Honestly, of all the titles since the PS1 trilogy only 2 of them were console games while everything else was a budget handheld, so they needed to give Spyro a new identity. A New Beginning started as an origin story, but when they realized that it would be better as its own thing, they decided to reboot the series instead of shoehorning it into the original series and return Spyro to it's fantasy roots rather than the generic cartoon platformer the series had become at the end.Dawn of the Dragon was well into development as well as Crash: Mind Over Mutant when Activision bought the franchises. They released these games as no point scrapping them so close to competition then changed everything up with the Skylander franchise for Spyro rather than the proposed sequel to Dawn of the Dragon and nailed Crash in his coffin until recently. Also, A New Beginning and The Eternal Night are VERY rough about the edges, but if you can PICK UP Dawn of the Dragon. That game is seriously legit and stands on it's own as one of the best Spyro adventures out there outside of the original trilogies.
as a big fan of the legend trilogy I've always been really disappointed about the og fans giving it a hard time and I appreciate your fairness. personally, everything you said about introducing a new generation of fans remains me of similar thoughts I've had about Skylanders.
I’m an OG fan, but I like the TLOS series. I’m just disappointed that Activision used Spyro instead of creating a different franchise. The Spyro I’m used to and the Spyro in the TLOS series are two totally different beasts. The personalities, story, and even game mechanics are way different.
nope, I LOVE The Legend of Spyro and feel it's severely underrated. If more people just accepted it for what it is instead of being upset it's a reboot of the original, I bet it wouldn't be as underrated. PLUS something ALMOST EVERYONE tends to overlook about TLOS is that it had the spirit of the original games. A LOT of nods and references to Classic Spyro are there in terms of game play and characters. TLOS actually paid respect to the original, while being its own thing, whereas Skylanders doesn;t
BitchBoiOnTheBlock it's just sad how misunderstood TLOS really is. I mean they even kept the classic charge attack in TLOS, it's not Spyro's main attack in that game anymore, but the fact that Spyro can still charge towards enemies in TLOS is a nod to classic Spyro. AND the Air Charge makes that move more useful for TLOS gameplay
I feel like your feelings about The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning are like mine about Matt Smith becoming the next Doctor in Doctor Who. The show didn't become awful, or terrible, but it just wasn't the same show that the previous 4 seasons were. It feels like Moffat just wanted to change everything about the show, from the humor, to the sets used, and just everything that I had gotten used to. The analogy is almost perfect somehow...
This is an old video, I know, but I wanted to point out that the Legend trilogy wasnt produced by Activision. The first two Legend games were developed by Krome Studios and published by Sierra of all people, who had just been purchased by Vivendi-Universal. They also, along with Radical Entertainment, made the Crash Bandicoot Titan games. Activision would end up merging with Vivendi (which is how we got Activision-Blizzard), but not until the final Legend and Titan games. Activision is more responsible for shutting down both franchises afterwards and replacing them with Skylanders than anything.
Skylanders is a good game but honestly Spyro would have been better off not being shoved into a dead end series of kids games that doesn't even make him the main character of the games
I think so, I mean I remember that blue coin in particular and never botherd telling us what the sign read. But yeah I didnt look for the Blue coins either
Just thought you'd like to know that IGN received a purple dragon egg with a. letter saying "something big is coming." Spyro's return could be on the horizon. Also Wendy's got Spyro toys to give away in their kids meals. Yeah it was lit.
I like the Legends trilogy since it felt like I was growing up with Spyro. I was a little kid when i played the original trilogy, and when Legends came out, I was at the “right age” to appreciate the tone of the new trilogy
I enjoy all the Spyro games... But The Legend of Spyro was not the end of Spyro's legacy... OOOOOH NO... OOOOOOOOOH NOOOOO........ *I HATE SKYLANDERS WITH A FUCKING PASSION*
GOOD. I hope you don't like it, because I sure as hell don't like Skylanders! It's a bland game series that has been repeatedly milked and is made exclusively to sell stupid toys to unwitting kids that don't know any better, that insists on holding the Spyro IP hostage for no reason whatsoever.
KashKey Um...you better think before you speak, because if you read my name, you would find out that I AM A SKYLANDER! Kids do know better too, and there is nothing wrong with us.
Interesting thought about the original trilogy the difficulty being not to hard not to easy: I thought it was a good challenge as a 5 year old kid. nothing too frustrating but engaging enough to keep me immersed. I played it now 21 years old all the way through again and miraculously it still feels like an appropriate level of challenge. Maybe its just my gaming skills are trash or maybe its because the game holds up so well. Kind of reminds me of Super Mario 64 with how thorough you can be without getting bored.
haha your not trash mate, same here im 21 but the games still holds up to this day its amazing i really hope they give spyro the trilogy RE make/mastered maybe for 2018 as its his 20th anniversary
That's because the originals had a system in the software that would raise and lower the difficulty in tandem to the player, look it up, it's pretty cool especially for it's time
hay what legends did Spyro leave behind. because when i first saw spyro in this game the new beginning of spyro. is what made me fall in love with this game. it dos int mean that i don't like the old spyro games but spyro is still spyro no mater how much they change him. each new spyro my be different but there still the same they remind us of what it fells like when you see that little purpler Dragon for the first time. spyro lives on with each new game he is in and the why he makes us fell will never change so spyro live on.
Why can't people move on from "The ORIGINAL Spyro this" and "The ORIGINAL Spyro that"? It'a not like the newer games with Frodo were absolute garbage. They were arguably more refined than its previous installments, but long- time Spyro fans tend to only see the bad in those games. I loved the "Lord of the Rings" style gameplay, it really revolutionized the game. I respect other people's opinions, and by no means am I attacking anyone who thinks otherwise, but I just think that people should recognize "A New Beginning" and its followups are reasonably fun games and might be seen in a more positive light if people maybe moved on from the charm of the first trilogy.
I agree. Even though I don't like the Spyro in Skylanders I think Skylanders itself is a pretty fun pass time. I've been recently playing it recently quite a bit. Although I haven't played imaginators yet.
I agree. While the original was great in its simplicity, it lacked any depth and there wasn't enough of a story. The levels were too simplistic and there wasn't enough change. The LOS series gave us all those things and more. Of course, with Elijah Wood voicing Spyro, all you can really think in the first LOS game is Frodo Baggins. But as the story progresses, you stop seeing frodo, and start seeing Spyro. While these two Spyros are fundamentally different i.e. Original Spyro is brash brave and showy while LOS Spyro is also brave, but thinks before he acts and has a real heroic presence about him. I recently began to think along the lines that perhaps the two Spyros are just that; two Spyros. LOS Spyro could be an ancient ancestor of the Original Spyro, like in Star Wars where the "Old Republic" games are based tens of thousands of years before the movies.
I think the dawn of the dragon is the best one in the legend series, in terms of... just about everything. the music, gameplay, puzzles, look, feel and the introduction of cynder and spyros young adult forms. now if they made that game longer or had that same style all throughout all three, I think this trilogy would have been better.
They published it alongside Universal and Vivendi in '06-'07 and then Activision in '08. The actual creators were Krome Studios for A New Beginning and The Eternal Night and Étranges Libellules for Dawn of the Dragon
Honestly I think A Hero's Tail get's unfairly shit on because most of the negative reviews ive seen consist of "It's Open World" "It came after Enter the Dragonfly" and "Who are most of these new characters"
+Zelkertia Hey... I was gonna make that joke! Next time, I expect you to predict 5 months in advance when someone wants to make a joke! Okay, I'm pretty sure this comment is a downward spyrol.
DID FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE WHO LOVES AND FEELS THE WAY ABOUT SPYRO AS I DO!?!? Do i have permission for my life to be complete now? (Peter your hair looks good btw)
I personally enjoy the legend of spyro games as an independent series and don't connect them.. the only similarity is the name but they're both good fun and both versions of spyro are likable in thier own ways . I enjoyed the legend trilogy allot (except the second game because it's broken as hell for some reason) and for whatever reason the graphics seemingly got worse with each game maybe because of money problems but who knows
To be honest The Legend of Spyro was my first Spyro game and I unconditionally love it despite not remembering all that much of it (I just remember have a lot of fun with its combat). It’s what got me in love with this purple dragon. I’ve never really played all that much of the series overall but even I can feel a very special bond with the guy.
I grew up with the legend of Spyro, it had its problems but I remember it fondly and it was what got me into Spyro. That eventually led me to skylanders, the reignited trilogy and some of the older Spyro games like enter the dragonfly and seasons of flame and ice
3rd one is amazing in how it gives the game a huge scale in terms of how big the levels are now, an even more dark feel to the story, and the ability to fly at ANY TIME for the first time in any Spyro game... highly recommend the 3rd one. the Second one's okay, but it feels more like filler leading towards the 3rd one
Get A New Beginning and The Eternal Night on Playstation 2, then get Dawn of the Dragon on Xbox 360 or Play station 3. The second game can feel like absolute bullshit at times but it's fun as hell, and the third is just a gem in of itself
I have grown up with the Spyro trilogy ever since I was a kid my first game was spyro a new beginning I loved it so much when I got older my dad finally told be he has the sequel to that game it blew my mind, like I said I grew up with spyro my mother's favourite game was the first Spyro that saved its developer, Spyro a new beginning was a game I couldn't stop playing it over and over again as I grew up and I was sad that SDOTD was somewhat the last Spyro game to end its trilogy I fell in love with the trilogy all together I have played and have almost all of the Spyro games but little old Skylanders had to screw up Spyro forever :/
Fun story. I first saw this video around three years ago and laughed so hard at your "rant" about the blue coin in the sign in Mario Sunshine. Now, years later when I got the game, I was looking forward to finding that sign and even though I didn't remember exactly what the environment around it looked like, I saw a sign and it looked familiar. So I decided to spray it and see what happened, and sure enough the coin pops out and I got unnecessarily happy for really no reason
I don't really like the first spyro games, because they were all about gameplay, and the story was too basic. However, I love the legend of spyro trilogy, the games were much more interesting, the story was deeper and I still enjoy flying in the valley of avalaar while listening to the music.
I liked the ending of this video where you said some good things about the Legend trilogy. Spyro was the first game I ever played and I grew up on both the Original and Legend Trilogies. I’m glad that Spryo has grown to have a great following
I get it, The Legend of Spyro trilogy is not like the original Spyro. I've played both games but I still favour The Legend of Spyro, probably because I grew up with it. But the story and the music is what keeps me playing the trilogy, it feels like there's life. Not only is Spyro not the cute and cocky dragon that he used to be, but in The Legend of Spyro, you watch Spyro grow into the hero that he was destined to be and he even develops a deeper relationship with Cynder. It just adds to the story, I don't care if gameplay doesn't meet my standards, what keeps me playing is progressing through the beautifully-crafted story. To learn about the "special" purple dragons, how they can use different elements, makes you want to learn more about this universe of Spyro. Even to have an evil purple dragon as the main antagonist is a great play on Activision's part. It also leads to questions like what if Spyro killed Cynder and didn't save her during the first game? What if Malefor stole a different egg, specifically a male dragon? The game had so much mystery whenever you entered new worlds to explore. The one thing I didn't like is Sparx, that he had to have a voice. If anything, he was annoying and his jokes mostly ruined emotional moments. But I guess the Spyro games are supposed to be more appealing to younger audiences. Younger generations will most likely prefer the most recent Spyro game, but I can't confirm that. If you wanna hate on a game, I'd hate Skylanders for what they did to Spyro and Cynder. Why do they have to look like angry lizards that wanted to be snakes? Just like many Spyro fans, I am very disappointed. I played as Cynder once in Skylanders and I couldn't do it. She was not the dragon that she was and the change wouldn't be so dramatic if they didn't have to make her look like she was born evil (hint, it's a pun lol) Great video, I appreciate how open minded you are. People need to give The Legend of Spyro another try.
*plays spyro, sees my younger brother on skylanders* "whos that harry?" Harry:"A purple dragon called spyro" me: *grabs the skylanders pod and throws it out the window and burns the spyro figure
The first game of the trilogy was my childhood, and recently i played all the trilogy, and i still hold that trilogy as the best game series i have ever played, but i cannot tell if those are better than the original series because i’ve never played them, i’ll try to play the original series and also the remakes to feel what you felt in your childhood
This video was gold. I totally understand your feelings about the original trilogy and TLoS! I personally was a big fan of TLoS, AND the original games! The way you put things really brings a new perspective to the slight crack in the fandom. Good work!
No....No....*NO!* How could they?! They actually dared to turn spyro from a collectathon game into a beat em up??!!! They fucking dared to give him personality, plot, backstory and character development?! And out of all their crimes they actually gave a God damn purpose to those wings and made him fly??!! Ohhhh nooo!!! The terror!!! They abomination!!!
Meta Prime I swear the God, there is no trace of sarcasm in my comment. Everything I said, I meant it literally, and I truly believe that all those changes ruined Spyro the Dragon. Did I mention how they killed Sparx s character by making him actually talk and making sarcastic remarks and jokes? Unforgivable
My first console was a PS2 and i grew up with the Legend of Spyro trilogy. I honestly didnt know that any other spyro game before that existed. Your Legend of Spyro is my Skylanders... i think everyone understands
Spyro was, is and will be my favorite franchise ever. Honestly I love The Legend of Spyro series more for the story and characters. But still love original series for begin that magical realm. Also I like Skylanders (the games and Show) for create a whole new world. (Don't judge me) :)
Universal Studios Office: WE HAVE TO MAKE A NEW SPYRO GAME, WHAT SHOULD WE DO! Person1: Put On A New Developing studio? Person2: Make It About Platforming? Person3: ReRelease The First Spurs Games? Smart Guy: Let Insomniac Develop The Spyro Game Themselves? *Eveyone gets mad and throws the smart guy out the window*
I feel like Activision screwed up. They really should’ve left Spyro alone and created a new game with new characters. I like the Legend of Spyro, but at the same time I don’t like the fact they used Spyro rather than just making a new character. I think they were banking on the fact that the Spyro franchise was already big and therefore the name alone would get it a lot of attention and thus a lot of sales. Essentially, they were too lazy to make their own franchise. Spyro in the Legend Of series does NOT match the real Spyro from the original trilogy (or even from a few of the GBA games after the trilogy!) at all. It feels like a totally different character but styled a little like Spyro. Or perhaps like if Spyro had a brother or something. It may look a little like Spyro, but he does not sound or act like Spyro. The mechanics of the game are even different in the Legend Of series! Sparx no longer changes colour to act as a health indicator or picks up shards/health (at least in my version, the DS port), which was the core reason why Sparx even existed in the OG trilogy! It’s all just wrong. Activision did redeem themselves with the Reignited Trilogy at least... But I still think Activision screwed over the OGs with the Legend Of series. And no, I’m not saying the games are bad, they’re pretty good even if they are kinda cheap button masher beat-em-ups. I’m saying that the usage of Spyro was wrong. They should’ve created a new franchise rather than use an already existing one to cash in on nostalgic games.
I've always loved Spyro (it's probably why I love dragons so much) I'm actually the same age as the franchise and I first played it when I was three with my mum (we have found memories of chasing the sun seeds in Year of the Dragon) and I adored the PS1 Spyro. I had a few problem with Enter the Dragonfly my copy had glitches and I didn't own a PS2 memory card for years (when I played A New Beginning and Eternal Night it had to be in one sitting because I couldn't save) so I had to get lucky that Cloud 9 would load (and it usually wouldn't and I would only hear sound and have a black screen) but also the game itself felt a bit empty, the levels felt like there should have been stuff to interact with or items to find or something. Hero's Tail was fun but some of the eggs were a bit tricky to find. With the Legend trilogy although it was vastly different from the original formula I greatly enjoyed the story and game play, I saw the trilogy as it's own and never tried to compare it to the original (like when a film or book getting a parody version you just enjoy it for what it is instead of comparing).
I am a super huge fan of Spyro the Dragon. :). I've played him since the age of five. I also played Mario since the age of five: but Spyro the dragon left a much more big place in my heart. :). Not only do I love all of the creativity in the original games of him: but I also enjoy all of the characters' personalities. Ripto, as an example: is given a huge amount of evil streak and also personality. Mario is great but the thing I don't like about the Mario games is that they fail to introduce some character personalities. With Spyro the dragon: every single character has a personality. :). I might be wrong about what I said about Mario: but to me his games lack many character personalities.
It was probably budget issues that ruined the potential for a great movie, if it wasn't then they made the stupidest decision of their career. They'd better make it up to us and make the movie after Skylanders dies, I want to see Spyro and Cynder together on the big screen.
I grew up with the original trilogy and I personally really liked TLoS:ANB (it's the only one of the legend series I've played). I can also say that I've owned every spyro game up until that point and say it's my favorite Spyro game outside of the original trilogy.
My child hood was the legend of spyro games, by activision and I loved the slightly dark and story driven game that it was. If I remember correctly I think I even got a childhood crush on Cynder, a freaking dragon for some point. So they where defiantly my favorite and especially since Spyro and Cynder kinda got there happy ending together.
WhiteWolf448 yea. Sadly I don't think TLOS didn't kill Spyro , I agree totally that it was Skylanders due to about the third game (I think) they totally took Spyro out of the concept.
TLOS also has many call backs to the original Spyro series (something ALMOST EVERYONE over looks about TLOS since most people don't like it) a lot of nods to Spyro are there, even some gameplay aspects (although changed to an extent) still resemble classic Spyro. So TLOS still paid respect to the original, while trying to be its own thing, whereas Skylanders didn;t.
Litten Fire pretty good point. I guess people didn't really likeTLOS because they probably felt the story was too "cheesy " or something like that. I personally liked TLOS due to it bringing more of a backstory to Spyro and the introduction of new characters and unique gameplay styles. I guess the gaming industry will not ever change on ruining childhood icons.
i only played the first spyro game growing up, which i loved, but i also grew up with the legend of spyro a new beginning, so i guess growing up with both i kinda love them both, but i love story in a game, and sometimes i even look past game play in order to get to the story, so when i was younger i might have done this even then
To be honest, I am a fan of the Legend of Spyro Trilogy, sure it's different, but i feel they were well done, great stories, and the action was epic. Now.. Skylanders.... Turning Spyro into a Gremlin Offended me so, that i did not buy the games, lol + I did not want to get into the whole Amiibo thing...
LEGEND OF SPYRO TRILOGY is better then ORIGINAL SPYRO TRILOGY! LIKE IF YOU AGREE! (And this is coming from a guy who grew up with the original spyro) I liked LEGEND OF SPYRO better than the original Spyro actually.
@@majorpeepo no, it wasnt a piece of shit, it just wasnt as good. If you renamed and re-characterized the games, then they would be amazing games. They didnt though
As a Legends fan, and someone who also loves the originals, I'm glad to see someone not butcher the legends and actually decently like it slightly, Good video! Loved it! :)
I am very happy you added some video of the ps1 and N64 game Gex. I thought i was the last of a dying race of people who cared about him......Until today.
I have to say that this is a great honest review, and I like the fact that you didn't let your opinions drive the whole video. I do agree with a lot of your points, and I can also see why a lot of people were turned off from the Legend trilogy. Some people didn't like the darker story, others didn't like the linear progression (and they were very linear), and there are other people who didn't like the voice acting. Personally though, I really enjoyed the story of the Legend trilogy, with the third game, Dawn of the Dragon, being my absolute favorite game of all time with its absolutely gorgeous graphics, smooth controls, just-right difficulty, and it wrapped up the story of the trilogy really well. Granted, there were a few plot holes, but it's good for what it is. I honestly consider A Hero's Tail to be a guilty pleasure personally. It's not the best Spyro game I've ever played, but it's not the worst either. Enter the Dragonfly is at least playable, and as you said it did do a few things right, like the controls, the charge, the flame, and the different breaths (which were carried over into A Hero's Tail and the Legend Trilogy). Anyway, I don't want to gush. This is a great video, and I'm glad you weren't one of those "It's different, so it automatically sucks." people. Different doesn't always mean bad. I can say that you've earned yourself a new subscriber.
Spyro : A New Beginning is a beloved game of mine, and one of the first games I ever played on the Playstation 2. It was a huge part of my childhood, and many others, so whilst OG Spyro may be many other's childhood and they see that image being 'ruined', the reboot was what many of us as kids at the time needed
Am I the only person who got emotionally attatched to Spyro in The Legend series? Because, I like, cried at the end of the Dawn Of The Dragon
I take that as a yes. :/
You’re not alone, I really love de legend series, specially the last one,
As someone born in '91 and enjoyed the original trilogy, I actually loved TLOS trilogy more.
I just threw up after reading your comment
I first learned about Spyro through TLOS trilogy and have Dawn of the dragon on my 3DS
lol i disagree so fuck you
@@lizardzilla same!!!!
The Legend Trilogy really wasn't that bad :/
I prefer both Trilogies for different reasons. The original is for humor and light-hearted fun, while the newer one is more serious and emotional.

Exactly, couldn't have said it better! 👌🏼
Took the words right out of my mouth
It makes me wish Legend of Spyro came back as a subseries of Spyro. So we can have classic OG Spyro AND Legend Spyro for those who want a more Fantasy/adventure story
The legend of Spyro is more like
Avatar: The Last Purple Dragon of the Rings
That is SO accurate😂
The Legend of Spyro was the best in the series. It made me fall in love in Spyro. I loved the legend of spyro and it was the best in my opinion. I will forever miss the legend of spyro.
Why the hell do these companies keep buying franchises only to shove them in a closet?
That's the thing that gets me too. Hell, they even denied them to be used in other games or contests.
Naughty Dog was celebrating their 15 year anniversaty and wanted to hold a fan art contest, when they asked to use Crash Bandicoot for the celebration, they got denied.
For Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, Crash and Spyro should've been shoe-ins to be playable characters but Activision said "NOPE!"
It's just dumb, especially when they didn't do much with the IPs in the first place.
it really is
activision actually tried to revive something that was made a horrible piece of shit whit the heros tail game
Dovahkiff to remove competitors?
Dovahkiff There are 3 possibilities. 1: greed and marketing, 2: Bringing kid's attention towards toys they're making, and 3: They think they're making spyro the dragon better to the newcomers (kids, because Activison sees spyro as a kiddie game) who had no knowledge of him.
The OG and the Legend Trilogies are great. The OG is light-hearted and funny at times while the Legend series is serious and dark.
Yeah, the OG is very charming and funny while TLOS is dark and has a more fantasy vibe to it.
To be honest, the Legend of Spyro triolgy is by far my most favorite Spyro games. Ever.
I bet it wasn't that bad,but take it with another character.
Let's just say what if Mario instead of being a happy plumber adventurer was a dark vigilante in a city where crime happens all the time.

I hate these things."
Last one you face now that you've beat them so many times: "Here's Johnny!"
In Dawn of the Dragon the combat grew intensely.
U wasted so much of ur time writing this comment

I agree with you WITH ALL OF IT although I'm q little scared that if they made a remake of The Legend Of Spyro Trilogy it will not be as good.. or idk ruin it?? Jmmm but it sure as hell could be interesting :3

(At we can all agree that Skylanders shouldn't have anally fisted Spyro's franchise, amirite?)

Spyro multiverse
Eh, The legend of spyro was a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, Don't see much wrong with it.
Games Done Badly
Yeah, but it was ok, but it just seems too serious and dark for a spyro game
I like it as well but it was really dark compared to what spyro was. It was a good game but it didn't feel like the original spyro games.
His face was the only problem honestly.
I still always loved the legend of spyro trilogy, but i consider it a sort of different universe from the classics, basically im saying i dont think the classics and the modern are connected, they just share characters. I loved both and im happy with both but not together as a collective thing.
I think TLOS is supposed to be a reboot anyway

“It’s not dissimilar from a journey I’ve taken before.”
*OH REALLY*
Skylanders aka when activision took spyro's rotting corpse and reanimated it.
Well at the very least, at least Crash Bandicoot faired a little better lol
DeQuillsta and mutated it
DeQuillsta And then made a shockingly good series.
That game is seriously legit and stands on it's own as one of the best Spyro adventures out there outside of the original trilogies.
okuraorca Meh but you need to play the first 2 to get the story.
Oh, I agree. I never said that wasn't an issue. But the game itself is really good.

Litten Fire ttly agree
BitchBoiOnTheBlock it's just sad how misunderstood TLOS really is. I mean they even kept the classic charge attack in TLOS, it's not Spyro's main attack in that game anymore, but the fact that Spyro can still charge towards enemies in TLOS is a nod to classic Spyro. AND the Air Charge makes that move more useful for TLOS gameplay
Litten Fire thank God I'm not the only one 😅
I feel like your feelings about The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning are like mine about Matt Smith becoming the next Doctor in Doctor Who. The show didn't become awful, or terrible, but it just wasn't the same show that the previous 4 seasons were. It feels like Moffat just wanted to change everything about the show, from the humor, to the sets used, and just everything that I had gotten used to.
The analogy is almost perfect somehow...
Heh
This is an old video, I know, but I wanted to point out that the Legend trilogy wasnt produced by Activision. The first two Legend games were developed by Krome Studios and published by Sierra of all people, who had just been purchased by Vivendi-Universal. They also, along with Radical Entertainment, made the Crash Bandicoot Titan games. Activision would end up merging with Vivendi (which is how we got Activision-Blizzard), but not until the final Legend and Titan games. Activision is more responsible for shutting down both franchises afterwards and replacing them with Skylanders than anything.
16:16 It can also be used to describe Star Wars, Harry Potter, Legend of Zelda, Avatar the Last Air Bender, and many other stories like that.

KrazyBomber- 95 GUESS WHO CALLED IT
That's because the originals had a system in the software that would raise and lower the difficulty in tandem to the player, look it up, it's pretty cool especially for it's time
hay what legends did Spyro leave behind. because when i first saw spyro in this game the new beginning of spyro. is what made me fall in love with this game. it dos int mean that i don't like the old spyro games but spyro is still spyro no mater how much they change him. each new spyro my be different but there still the same they remind us of what it fells like when you see that little purpler Dragon for the first time. spyro lives on with each new game he is in and the why he makes us fell will never change so spyro live on.
People can’t move on from it now because of the remake
he did recognize that tho
At least it isn’t as bad as the skylanders redesign
“A New Beginning” was my first Spyro game I ever played, and I love it still to this day!
I think the dawn of the dragon is the best one in the legend series, in terms of... just about everything. the music, gameplay, puzzles, look, feel and the introduction of cynder and spyros young adult forms. now if they made that game longer or had that same style all throughout all three, I think this trilogy would have been better.
Wasn't Sierra Entertainment the one who made the Legend of Spyro series?
They published it alongside Universal and Vivendi in '06-'07 and then Activision in '08. The actual creators were Krome Studios for A New Beginning and The Eternal Night and Étranges Libellules for Dawn of the Dragon
They made the wretched Shadow fucking Legacy ds game
FireSonic101 yeah he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
xXKierra BinghamXx Well its kind of an understandable mistake as Activision did co-publish the third entry in The Legend of Spyro.

I actually loved the Legend Series! It was my favorite in the Spyro games! I don't understand who it got so much hate
Besides it was FUCKING Skylander that ruined Spyro
But The Legend of Spyro is amazing. SKYLANDERS ruined Spyro.
@@flamestudios1350 what the actual FUCK are you saying
Skylanders itself is a decent pass time. I don't think it's trying to be a Spyro game at all.
@@flamestudios1350
Uhh... What?
@blue dragon King of all dragons I think he may or may not be dead now. I think he was having a stroke.
@@zeteri4563 Thank you for partially restoring my faith in this fanbase
And now, we're getting remakes!
I wish Peter would make a video talking about the remaster.
My boyfriend got offended cuz he sprayed that sign for fun in Mario sunshine XD XD
They sould do a hd remake of the original trilogie like the crash n sane trilogie
Toni the Bat guess what lol
He predicted the remaster of the original Spyro... he is a GOD.
I loved Legend of Spyro, never played the 2nd or 3rd game though
LowTier4Life the third game is the actual best! can't recommend it enough
Litten Fire yes!!
Litten Fire The PS2 version has bad HD graphics while the PS3 Wii and Xbox 360 version matches the system
I actually liked Spyro games.
One of the first games I owned for my PS3 was Spyro 3 year of the dragon!
..
*What happened to him.*
Roxy Lalonde Skylanders happened, my friend. *Fucking Skylanders happened*.
I don't really like the first spyro games, because they were all about gameplay, and the story was too basic. However, I love the legend of spyro trilogy, the games were much more interesting, the story was deeper and I still enjoy flying in the valley of avalaar while listening to the music.
What happened to the YTPs?!
9:02 - Such a beautiful and uplifting theme! 😊
I liked the ending of this video where you said some good things about the Legend trilogy. Spyro was the first game I ever played and I grew up on both the Original and Legend Trilogies. I’m glad that Spryo has grown to have a great following
Does everyone remember what else Activiton did to Spyro
She was not the dragon that she was and the change wouldn't be so dramatic if they didn't have to make her look like she was born evil (hint, it's a pun lol)
Great video, I appreciate how open minded you are. People need to give The Legend of Spyro another try.
*plays spyro, sees my younger brother on skylanders*
"whos that harry?"
Harry:"A purple dragon called spyro"
me: *grabs the skylanders pod and throws it out the window and burns the spyro figure
Ah yes, the childhood of other people doesn’t matter because of a simple redesign.
This comment section makes me feel horrible for loving skylanders because it was my childhood :(
The first game of the trilogy was my childhood, and recently i played all the trilogy, and i still hold that trilogy as the best game series i have ever played, but i cannot tell if those are better than the original series because i’ve never played them, i’ll try to play the original series and also the remakes to feel what you felt in your childhood
This video was gold. I totally understand your feelings about the original trilogy and TLoS! I personally was a big fan of TLoS, AND the original games! The way you put things really brings a new perspective to the slight crack in the fandom. Good work!
No....No....*NO!*
How could they?!
KUNGLAO3 KUNGLAO3 lol this feels like a troll comment since all you said were good things.
KUNGLAO3 KUNGLAO3 are you talking about Spyro or Sparx?
Meta Prime In the second half of my reply to you I clearly say Sparx
But in my first comment I was talking about Spyro
KUNGLAO3 KUNGLAO3 I find that very hard to believe.
i actually liked The Legend of Spyro
peter... it's crash time now, make a video about him
My first console was a PS2 and i grew up with the Legend of Spyro trilogy.
The legend of series was very dark thats what i liked about it was so sad
This video is 💯 btw I loved the legend of spyro the first one I played
EXEMASTER 777 same it was awesome
Universal Studios needs to make a Spyro movie!
There was actually going to be a movie based on the legend of spyro trilogy! But it was cancelled :( No idea why
Count Bleck Try and guess. That one dude gave the idea about selling the rights and cancelling the movie to create *fucking Skylanders*.
Koge -mo oh for fuck sake. really? they have up a movie for that shit? I have officially lost hope in humanity
Dr. Julian Robotnik plz no...
It was probably budget issues that ruined the potential for a great movie, if it wasn't then they made the stupidest decision of their career. They'd better make it up to us and make the movie after Skylanders dies, I want to see Spyro and Cynder together on the big screen.
Sonic 2017 is a sequel to Sonic 2006
I grew up with the original trilogy and I personally really liked TLoS:ANB (it's the only one of the legend series I've played). I can also say that I've owned every spyro game up until that point and say it's my favorite Spyro game outside of the original trilogy.
My child hood was the legend of spyro games, by activision and I loved the slightly dark and story driven game that it was. If I remember correctly I think I even got a childhood crush on Cynder, a freaking dragon for some point. So they where defiantly my favorite and especially since Spyro and Cynder kinda got there happy ending together.
And now we have Skylanders
if you want to see spyro now just look at what Skylanders did to him
never mind
adam al-assaf When I first heard about Spyro I was like, "From Skylanders?"
How many people have I triggered?
adam al-assaf god. I was so mortified at what he's become
Ava The Gamer many.very very many.
y u not mention when he became skylanders XD
oh he mentioned it at the outro XD
You sound like the Hulk. Thought you should know.
i only played the first spyro game growing up, which i loved, but i also grew up with the legend of spyro a new beginning, so i guess growing up with both i kinda love them both, but i love story in a game, and sometimes i even look past game play in order to get to the story, so when i was younger i might have done this even then
The legend of spyro was a unique twist for spyro and introduced cool characters to the franchise and still references to the original games
Controller Skies the legend series was a peace of shit..
@@majorpeepo no, it wasnt a piece of shit, it just wasnt as good. If you renamed and re-characterized the games, then they would be amazing games. They didnt though
Actually I prefer the original then the legend properly due to getting confused on what to do
As a Legends fan, and someone who also loves the originals, I'm glad to see someone not butcher the legends and actually decently like it slightly, Good video! Loved it! :)
The croc series was my favorite(along with spyro) so thanks for reminding me about croc(with that clip) it's soo underrated!
Now we have the reignited trilogy. It’s AMAZING!
I happened to LOVE the legend of spyro series, thank you very much 😤
I am very happy you added some video of the ps1 and N64 game Gex.
I'm not gonna bash, as I adore TLoS, I love how at the end, you used one of my favorite pieces of music from Dawn of the Dragon. I enjoyed it. Thanks.
If Spyro hadn't done well, we would have never gotten Spider-Man PS4.
