You asked about patterns for me, I'm used to paper patterns. For most of my knitting/crocheting life there was only one option for a pattern - a printed one. I occassionally use a digital one, but for the most part, I still print.

I always print out my patterns because I write notes and reminders all over them! They are a mess at the end but it works for me! I felt a bit sad that people are going to rip out your garments in the giveaway! If I was lucky enough to win anything I would treasure it as it is- love in stitches! I know you said you don’t mind- bit I would! Take care x

Most of my patterns are in my digital library but when I am ready to cast on, I print out the pattern. Technology is great but there are many times when I just want to unplug with no screen time. We spend a lot of time at our cottage and I like to sit on the deck, look at the lake and knit. I don't want a screen. I want to knit and relax.
We are all different. What works for one person might not work for someone with a different lifestyle.

Hi Natalie. I’m excited to see your version of the Battenberg Blanket. This has been an ongoing project of mine for the last year or so. I find it a great palette cleanser between projects. I just wanted to let you know the designer has included both UK and US terms in the pattern. The US “translation” (using the designer’s term) is included on the final two pages of the pattern (p.8-9). I thought I would mention it in case anyone else wanted to crochet this lovely blanket but were hesitant due to the difference in UK and US terminology. ❤️

I print my patterns out. I tend to watch youtube on my tablet or phone while knitting and like writing the note or changes in as I make it. The downside is if I lose that copy, which has happened. However, I have tried knit companion but didn't love it enough to keep using it. :(

I like to print my patterns. I haven't tried using my electronics for this yet, I should try one. But, I really like how I can walk away from the screen time at the end of the day when I do most of my knitting. My big thing I hate is when I print the pattern I don't want a lot of pictures. Yes, I want the pictures on the pattern on screen, and when I'm looking but I don't need/want them on my instructions. So I often download the pattern then edit it and remove the photos, then do my print. I *try* to be really good about modifying my ravelry notes when I change something in case I want to make the pattern again. I do have to admit, I did have to write garter stich not stockinette in HUGE letters on my last pattern because I kept messing up the pattern repeat. :-)

Your last question - balance with overwhelm and easy knits
    1. Sundays are spend doing two important things - ensuring I have at least one mindless project that will get me through the week and doing what I can to do any finishing I need.
I guess what I am saying is that I don't let myself do "mindless knitting" on Sundays until those two tasks are addressed.
Mind you I will only do 1 project finishing or cast on one mindless project if needed.
Its like a mini planning day. I don't plan for a month, but I do plan for the work weeks knitting.

#question: When you make the Ripple Camisole again, would you consider adding elastic cord or strip to the straps? It never occurred to me that I need to knit a camisole, but seeing how this one turned out (and how great it looks on you) has me eyeing all my souvenir single skeins! My concern is that the straps will stretch out with wear. As for printed vs digital patterns, KnitCompanion changed my attitude towards digital patterns. Your idea is brilliant and easy to do, just add a few more rounds to each. Thank you for that idea, I’ll pull it back out and take another whirl at it. 3”-4” would keep me motivated to finish.

#question Hi Natalie! As someone who loves making toe-up socks, I'm starting to feel like I'm in the minority. Do you know why the majority of sock patterns are written cuff-down? To me, toe-up means no Kitchener stitch, no need to pick up stitches at the heel, and no fear of running out of yarn! Am I missing something? Try to convert me to team cuff-down!

I love 'steaming' my colorwork socks. Just iron it with a wet towel between the sock and the iron and the stitches will relax perfect (But I've heard that you're not supposed to do this on the ribbing part, because it will stretch)! It's so quick and gives a nice result. I only do this when I do colorwork of magic loop, because with magic loop I tend to get a little ladder and it wil dissappear when I do this. Sometimes I do it with socks that are gifts, but for myself I think it's to much effort for a plain sock, it will indeed block itself when I'm wearing it.
And I love printing my patterns. Especially for bigger knits. If it is for a baby hat or something I use my phone or laptop, but for bigger garments I like to have it on paper. I even laminate it, so I can use sticky notes and washi tape to track where I'm at! I know this is not the best way for the environment, but I tend to knit patterns more than ones, so if I laminate it, it will stay in great shape! I also keep them in a binder, a bit like my own pattern book. But I've put some patterns on my ereader, and trying to use it on there instead of printing (I'm trying to limit my screen/phone time). Haven't worked a full pattern that way, but I think this will be a great way!
#question I see that you store your handknits under your bed. Do you also store the ones that you wear and don't need to be washed yet in those drawers? I struggle with storing my handknits. Is it okay to put 'dirty' sweaters in drawers or closets? Especially since wool can hold a lot of moisture without feeling wet... It feels kind weird to put those sweaters away, so at the moment I store them in a semi open basket, but my handknitted garments are outgrowing the basket, so it would be nice to put them in a drawer😅

I mostly keep my patterns digitally, but for some projects with big charts I like printing just the chart and using one of those magmatic folders with a row keeper so I don’t have to write down what row I’m on. But as a seasoned knitter I do like condensed patters rather than those that go pages and pages and pages explaining thing. It’s just easier for me to read shorter instructions. I like when patterns have both options: written out instructions and a chart so beginners have the help they need but those comfortable with abbreviations and charts can use those instead.

On Wall-E: to anyone who's ever struggled with disordered eating, I would recommend avoiding Wall-E. The general message of it (to me) is that the worst thing that can ever happen to you is to be fat. And that all fat people are lazy. Needless to say, as a slightly overweight child, that messed me up. Eventually I developed a full blown eating disorder and now I am properly fat due mainly to said prior eating disorder.
Obviously I'm not saying that Wall-E caused my eating disorder. Nor am I saying that anyone who enjoys it is anti-fat. All I'm saying is that I had a bad experience and want to work others who may be susceptible to that.

A pet peeve of mine is patterns formatted only for digital or print (ie clickable links or QR codes with no associated text, or text that is formatted as an image and can't be highlighted etc). Patterns should be usable in either medium.

Not knitting/crocheting in public is actually really foreign to me! I have honestly never thought twice about it. I learned to crochet at a young age and some of my favorite memories of crocheting were teaching friends and getting in trouble at school crocheting in stead of taking notes lol so to me it's just something I've always done! Usually no ine ever even glances at me. I typically pop in some headphones if I'm at a coffee shop or somewhere I'd like to be left alone lol but just go for it! I don't think people are really judging or thinking twice about it and if they are it's usually in an interested in what you're doing way. You can do it!

I am also 5’6” I have a large bust and my tank straps are normally too long as well. I’ve always thought I have a higher setting chest maybe that’s it the difference?? Always wondered. So many wonderful shapes and sizes.

#question I have made a couple summer tops, but since they're thicker than store bought, light-weight tops, they made me hot. I even used cotton and bamboo yarn (though it was more a DK weight). I was surprised you used wool! It's so cute, and I'd love to make one, but does it make you hot?

For your ripple cami- I made the ripple bralette, and I've made a few other of Jessie Maed's tank patterns and she usually recommends a 3 needle bind off to join straps. Maybe trying that would look nicer? I find it more fiddly than kitchener stitch but I think that's just because I kitchener soooo many socks so I have it down!
As for the patterns: I use digital always but I know a lot of people use paper. We use abbreviations because if we wrote out "knit" "slip, slip, knit", "knit through the back loop" ect instead of "k", "sl", "ktbl", it would bog down the directions and make it super hard to follow each row. Maybe having the front page with all the abbreviations listed close by so they don't have to flip back and forth would be helpful, or they can make themselves a cheat sheet/reference guide on a notecard to keep close by so they can refer to it quickly and easily.

#Question on your destash knitwear video, you seemed to get rid of a lot of Westknits mystery shawls. As they don't seem to fit your needs, will you do another one? I think knitting fits two needs/desires: the need or desire for something to wear or use. But also I think it's okay to knit something just for the enjoyment of knitting it.

Your Ripple Camisole really makes me want to knit one myself LOL And I truly don't need to start anything new that won't be done in a day or two max XD
For patterns, I'm very much a digital fan, but I have plenty of friends who will print out and mark up every single pattern they need. In addition, I often use my phone for the pattern, and not only a tablet. My take is that it would be great if we had the actual pattern as space saving as possible, also taking into account that phone screens are much smaller, so maybe using three columns. It's a bit annoying when I have to scroll back and forth to read a line of a pattern on my phone. But then add in all the great to have additional info either in a separate document or in the same document, but consolidated in front of or behind the actual pattern section. That way, you can print just the pattern and are good to go on that end, but can check on the other info as needed.
