  • Puto Cheese is a Filipino soft cake, is made with all purpose flour, sugar, egg, evaporated milk, baking powder, butter, grated cheese, cheese. This Puto Cheese ala Goldilocks, is a recipe that will show you how to make that popular poto cheese in your home. Usually comes as partner with Pancit and spaghetti in handaan or eaten with Dinuguan (I have never tried tho), this simple but tasty snack would surely delight your tummy.

    INGREDIENTS
    1 cup cake flour (or all purpose flour)
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 tbsp. baking powder
    1 pc egg
    1/4 cup evaporated milk (or whole/fresh milk)
    3/4 cup water
    1 tbsp. melted butter (or vegetable oil)
    1/4 cup grated cheese (optional)
    cheese toppings (or any desired toppings)
    DIRECTIONS
    In a mixing bowl, combine cake flour, baking powder and sugar. Sift to remove lumps. Set aside.
    In a separate bowl, combine egg, milk, water, and melted butter. Mix well. Then, add to the flour mixture. Mix well, but slowly, until smooth. Do not overmix. Then let it rest for 15 minutes before pouring in the molders.
    After resting, pour the puto mixture in the molders, filling only 3/4 of it as it will rise as you steam. Then, put desired toppings. You can use cheese, minced meat or salted egg.
    Steam for 10-12 minutes. I used medium-sized molders. If you are using different molder size, adjust the steaming time. After 10 minutes, remove from heat.
    Let it cool a little before removing from molds.
    RECIPE NOTES:
    Make sure the baking powder is still good before using or it will not rise. How to know if it's still good? Pour 1/2 cup boiling water over 1/2 tsp baking powder. If it bubbles, it's still good.
    Grease or put oil ONLY AT THE BOTTOM of the mold. DO NOT grease the sides to achieve dome appearance of the puto.
    DO NOT OVERCOOK. The puto becomes flat when overcooked.

    Ilang beses kona to ginawa . I always say mas masarap pa siya sa goldilocks .. some of your recipes special bakes and snacks .     Puto, by definition, is steamed RICE cake. And puto is made with RICE flour or ground rice. You cannot call this puto if you're using all-purpose flour and there is NO hint of anything remotely rice in any of your ingredients. Also, it's call "cheese puto," not puto cheese. You're making a kind of puto with cheese. You're not making cheese with puto. Cheese is the added ingredient in this type of puto. Cheese is the adjective that describes the kind of puto you're making.

    Puto is known as rice cake because the main ingredient is rice flour. This recipe doesn't use rice flour. It's not authentic puto.

    Hello yummy kitchen,
    Ginawa ko po yan(first time ko po gumawa ng puto) , pero ang ginamit ko po ay rice flour at yung rice flour po ako din ang nagblend at gumamit din ako ng strainer para pino.. Pero hindi po umalsa,bakit po kaya?
    Yung lasa po nya masarap, yung appearance nga lng po talaga hindi mukang puto.

      Sa akin din hindi umalsa. Pero msarap yung lasa kaysa sa ibang na try ko. The only thing na di ko nagawa was di ko pinapa rest ng 15mins. Kasi nakagawa na ako dati umalsa nman kahit di ko ipinapa rest yung batter

    Tried the recipe! Sobrang winner hehe i used super small molds (1 oz), but still I steamed it around 12-15 mins. If anyone is curious, I used 1st class flour but the puto is still soft and fluffy.

    Hi tried this today also. Di lang nag alsa yung top nung sakin, siguro kase halos 3/4 lang ng molder pag lagay ko or na over beat ko ba. Pero ang sarap pa din. Nasarapan kapatid ko. 😉 Cooking pa yung 2nd batch. Sa large molder yung 2nd, 1st batch ko small molder haha

    I tried it, maganda kinalabasan. Ung lasa kung linamnam ang pag uusapan, instead of water fresh milk or evap nalang gamitin. ;) Masarap po.
