The call with Sid was really worth listening to and I guess it was the perfect time for him to call the show. You two are an amazing duo to host the show. Edit: Nvm, it wasn't just that one call. This episode was one of the best I've seen so far. And about that guy from Berlin: There are no different words in Germany, to distinguish between faith and belief. Everything is a belief. The context determines the kind of belief. Most of the time it is not pointed out if it is just faith based belief or belief due to what ever sort of evidence. If it is faith based belief, it is hard to see a difference between knowledge, opinion and belief, when talking to a Christian in Germany. The three terms tend to get used synonymous in certain lower to average educated circles, even among atheists who are talking about their opinion. Opinion gets conflated with some sort of factual statement in Germany and since it works the other direction too, that opinion is a synonym of belief, talking to theists or uneducated and irrational people can be pretty semantics heavy. But they fail to understand higher levels of abstraction or talking on another necessary meta level, so you're doomed losing a chess game against a pigeon again and again. Btw. the German term for "freedom of speech" is literally translatable to "freedom of opinion". That's another reason, why you are not allowed to argue about anybodies opinion, no matter how stupid it is. It just renders opinion to be something not really factual but fact enough to not be up for debate. Moreover, this has implications for the word "trust" too. It's easier to dismiss trust in Germany, as just being naive, especially for pessimistic atheist types, who are unable to understand the word belief as something which can be related to evidence, which is pretty common as well. At least that's my experience. As a German I'm always clarifying which version of belief I mean, right after using the word out of mere habit. This means, adding something like "but I'm not sure". If I wouldn't do this, many people I'm interacting with, might take it as fact what I said, just because they weren't listening closely, when I added the phrase "I believe" at the end of a statement. If we just had the same concept about faith as you English speakers. I wouldn't struggle as much, explaining that faith is irrational, instead of degrading an opinion as being irrational, while freedom of opinion is seen as a basic human right. It's just stupid. So as a former linguist, I find it quite interesting, how easy it is to translate faith and belief to a single German word, while there are huge differences between the concepts of the words. They just work as translations on the most basic level, but you'll bump into issues rather fast. Imagine believing in an English copy of a Latin copy of a Greek copy of a Hebrew book from people who spoke Aramaic. As far as I'm concerned, the guy from Berlin was using "belief" as being faith, therefore believing without evidence, which isn't too much of an issue to admit for most German theists. I mean, that's what he said: "It's a belief. Why would you have evidence?" Well, German theists find that convincing enough. They get pissed the same way as your callers though, when you tell them that this makes no sense, even after implying, that it doesn't have to make sense. Ye, I know, it's weird. Just humans doing human stuff.
Would you have kids if you knew one of them would end up being a serial killer? Not trying to be facetious or anything, just posing a question. A sort of reverse trolley problem/go back in time and kill your own grandpa-type moral thought exercise.
My thanks to those who took care of indexing the calls in the description. I listened to the whole show, but now I'll have no trouble listening again to the conversation with Brian on how to deal with presuppositionalists. There were some helpful nuggets in there.
Matt Dilahunty is a living legend, his arguments are straight to the point, well constructed and he is quick to callout bullshit arguments. It frustrates me when people fail to realise he is trying to help them see things rationally.
Funniest part about his argument is as a Christian he believes we all have desires that are sinful as part of our flawed nature... it’s only sin when we act in them But when an atheist says it he is shocked
The dude is a complete imbecile. He is incapable of listening, he is busy thinking about what he is going to say next, and how he can slip some more horseshit in. He has been hobbled by indoctrination and I think was sadly dealt a little short from birth. His IQ is probably somewhere around his shoe size and he was home schooled, buy his younger brother and the dog.
@@tonyaratlaff7990 So you know there is a billion behind the door. We don't know big there are any god's behind the door. It's basically pretending to believe in a god, wouldn't the god know?
@@tonyaratlaff7990How can atheism be an indoctrination? It's the default stance. You said there's a billion $ behind one of ten doors. Conservatives will often do that and it's scary how well it works. It's a game of pure numbers, Brojo doesn't so much speak to Matt but to Matt and Tracie's audience that already, at least on some level, agrees with him. He's preaching to the choir and using the Atheist Experience as a free platform from which to do it. As long as there's an audience stupid enough to buy these arguments, he's winning. It doesn't matter that all semblance of decorum is shot to hell. The scary thing about the religious right wing is that they really are like a dark mirror to the progressive left. They hold onto sincere beliefs and want to see them realized. They do not care about the process, only about the effects.
@@Arrakiz666 I disagree. Brojo helps atheism because he is so very wrong and it is so very obvious. If someone is so indoctrinated to buy any of his bs, nothing will help them. Brojo is an absolute theological train wreck and he is pure gold for atheism. I almost think he is a poe.
It is sad that essentially the same people keep calling in with the same arguments. Their names change, but the stupidity remains the same. Brojo said he spoke to Tracie before. How can he make the pedophilia argument if he isn't new? I can't believe this is the first time he's ever heard the reason that homosexuality and pedophilia AREN'T the same thing. I also found it funny that when his first "argument" was shot down, he moved on in a way that made it seem (at least to him) that he had just made an argument. It might have been a bad argument, but I suspect he thought he made one, and then could later say "look at all of the arguments I gave you." BTW, I see this approach used over and over. Oh, and I like when Matt gets angry. He can't seem to talk fast enough to get the words out ; ) As always, I'm amazed that these aren't set up calls. And that makes me sad.
Samian 666 : And especially if there's people like Darth Dawkins/EF ( Gary Milne) that keeps on calling either Talk Heathen or The Atheist Experience on and on with like you said exactly the same arguments years after years, even AronRa made a comment about that several years ago when he were co-starring an episode of The Atheist Experience. :-( And here's Gary Milnes behaviour when he's on Discord Darwins Dildo/Darth Dildo Game (type the number in CHAT when you hear him do one of these. First person get X3 Second X2 Third X1) 1 make a strawman 2 ask a question instead of give an answer 3 ad hom 4 keep interrupting 5 moan to moderator 6 Confuse internal and external critique 7 poison the well 8 take the dog out and fuck it
The way he spoke, it's clear he's not in the business of accepting corrections. Conservatives will often do that and it's scary how well it works. It's a game of pure numbers, Brojo doesn't so much speak to Matt and Tracie but to Matt and Tracie's audience that already, at least on some level, agrees with him. He's preaching to the quire and using the Atheist Experience as a free platform from which to do it. That is the biggest problem with the show, it's a call-in show, anybody get call in and get access to a popular and wide platform. That can do a lot of damage when there are people whose only goal is to peddle propaganda. As long there's an audience stupid enough to buy these arguments, he's winning. It doesn't matter that all semblance of decorum is shot to hell. The scary thing about the religious right wing is that they really are like a dark mirror to the progressive left. They hold onto sincere beliefs and want to see them realized. They do not care about the process, only about the effects.
@THE PEOPLE SING There's a difference here though. Atheism is by its nature a negative proposition. So all we have to do, ever, is to respond to your claims. If you want to hear anything new from us, you have to provide new material first.
They balance eacother out so well. She's the only one who when Matt gets going and takes the conversation over she can reign him in and get her points in.
I was opposed to putting children on leashes until I became a parent and took young children to a public place, like a zoo, and they repeatedly ran off. I don't think it is ideal, but I completely understand it, and yes, it is better than having them run off and possibly getting lost or injured.
The fundamental problem with Brojo (which I think is common amongst theists) is that he doesn't understand that "desires" (in this case homosexual ones) are natural, normal and not of our choosing. He simply can't imagine a man being in love (and wanting to express that love sexually) with another man. This is a defect in his imagination, empathetic ability, and a byproduct of general ignorance. Until this root issue is "solved" there will be legions of Brojos shuffling about the landscape.
As someone who’s interacted with both him and Darth multiple times I think the problem is that he is a completely useless piece of shit. Total human garbage

Idk if something is wrong with me but i remember alot of my dreams and i almost dream nightly. I remember distinct nightmares from childhood too. Like they play back like movies. Is my brain broken?
I dream all the time, although I don't remember most of them. That said, I do remember a lot of them, particularly if they're of a familiar type. Such as getting lost in the NYC subway system. Or on the street in an unfamiliar neighborhood. I've been having the weirdest dreams lately. I'm fully aware of my surroundings, such as the computer fans, traffic sounds, video, TV, whatever, but I add something to it, such as eating something, or going to pet the cat. I actually physically act out spooning up some food, and bringing it to my mouth. The dream ends when I realize there's nothing there. Or, when I lean down to pet the cat, who died over a decade ago, and come up with just air. It's weird.
Except that you CAN if you try hard enough. Axe fighting manuals teach that the corners of an axe blade can be useful for that. You won't penetrate very deep, but you will penetrate. Not that that really matters in the 21st century.
Please have Matt as a guest again, so he doesn't hang up on people whenever it please him. I like it when callers have the chance to dive even more to the muddy bottom of their dogmatic belief.
In hopes that they’ll do this more often. I also want to ship the Tracie and Matt show. I love Don as well, but they truly are a treat to have together
1:36:00 Tracie's garage dynamite story is analogous to the Eden fable. Adult is negligent. Kid, with zero comprehension of the "harm" does the "don't do that" thing. And, rather than the grownup (Jehovah) realizing "oh shit. I left, effectively, newborns in the garage with the dynamite. And I know my psycho neighbour is home and might come over and suggest 'hey, fun lincoln logs' to the kids... MY bad. I owe them an apology, an explanation...and maybe some ice cream. And *I* have to move that dynamite out of their reach."
The Eden fable is actually worse, because the dynamite was left there intentionally, knowing the kids might decide to play with it, and explained nothing except "don't", then punishes not just the kids but all of their descendants for the rest of time when they play with the sticks anyway.
I would argue that probably 90% (or more) of the people faced with either life in prison or the death penalty would almost ALWAYS prefer, personally, to be put to death rather than spending the rest of their lives locked away, most of them in cold, forgotten isolation for what could end up being DECADES. With that in mind, is death really a "penalty" for these people, at all? Or, is Justice truly NOT the motivation, and instead revenge or vengeance? A sense of "an eye for an eye" for the victims and greater society? The only argument I can think of to support the "death penalty" is the one that makes the case against feeding and housing the convicted for the foreseeable future. But, other than that, it's essentially unavoidable that death is never a punishment when the alternative is life in prison without parole. In those circumstances death is a release, it's freedom. Freedom from responsibility, and freedom from consequences. It's a way for the convicted to AVOID paying any real, tangible cost for what they've done. Sadly, (perhaps,) that's just the truth of the matter, after all. A good case can not be made for death as a penalty. Death as vengeance, or just as a method of sheer disposal, if the person was found guilty of a sexual or violent crime against a child, or children, but that's it. There's really no getting around it.
It enables some closure for the victims family. A dad blasts his 2 children in the back of the head to spite is estranged ex wife and laughs at her in court. No remorse. I think in some cases it is warranted. I would rather spend the rest of my life in prison than be executed personally speaking. Death row prisoners launch appeal after appeal - so your assumption seems to be incorrect.

Why would you have evidence?"
Well, German theists find that convincing enough. They get pissed the same way as your callers though, when you tell them that this makes no sense, even after implying, that it doesn't have to make sense. Ye, I know, it's weird. Just humans doing human stuff.
Brojo is a great advert for contraception. If only his parents had seen it.
Or abortion.
Would you have kids if you knew one of them would end up being a serial killer? Not trying to be facetious or anything, just posing a question. A sort of reverse trolley problem/go back in time and kill your own grandpa-type moral thought exercise.
or retroactive abortion? 😄😄
My thanks to those who took care of indexing the calls in the description. I listened to the whole show, but now I'll have no trouble listening again to the conversation with Brian on how to deal with presuppositionalists. There were some helpful nuggets in there.
Yaass my 2 favorite hosts!!!
Omg, it’s my birthday. Tracie and Matt are the best pair on the show!
Hope you had a nice birthday ^^
Whether you meant that it literally was your birthday, or a good approximation, happy birthday! 🎂🎂🍰
@@Twentydragon Whoops. You're right. It could've been a matter of speech haha. Didn't think of it like that.
Then it must be your birthday pretty close to this comment too because it is a one year old comment. Happy birthday 🎂
Matt Dilahunty is a living legend, his arguments are straight to the point, well constructed and he is quick to callout bullshit arguments. It frustrates me when people fail to realise he is trying to help them see things rationally.
Brojo's Bizarre Argument
Underrated comment. Have a like from a fellow Stand User.
Funniest part about his argument is as a Christian he believes we all have desires that are sinful as part of our flawed nature... it’s only sin when we act in them
But when an atheist says it he is shocked
The dude is a complete imbecile. He is incapable of listening, he is busy thinking about what he is going to say next, and how he can slip some more horseshit in.
He has been hobbled by indoctrination and I think was sadly dealt a little short from birth.
His IQ is probably somewhere around his shoe size and he was home schooled, buy his younger brother and the dog.

Is Brojo for real!? Everything he said was just shot down and he just carries on like he’s actually made any sort of point...
Exactly! I'll just play the stereotype game now and say, "An ignorant moron from Arkansas? Who would have thought?"

Brojo and his love of thought crimes.... imagine living in his world utopia

It would be like that episode of the twilight zone, it's a good life.
Nelson Vecchione No he is a reformed Calvinist disciple of Evolution False aka Darth Dawkins
@@vivahernando1 Wait, that's Darth Dawkins? I heard rumblings of this man's... reputation.
You mean hell?
This is the only show that has remained with me all these years since I first discovered it. I appreciate what ACA has done for me!
He can't seem to talk fast enough to get the words out ; )
As always, I'm amazed that these aren't set up calls.
First person get X3 Second X2 Third X1) 1 make a strawman 2 ask a question instead of give an answer 3 ad hom 4 keep interrupting 5 moan to moderator 6 Confuse internal and external critique 7 poison the well 8 take the dog out and fuck it
If they had better arguments, they would no longer be advocating for gods or comparing homosexuality to beastiality
The People Sing : Why should we give you a break? Really? Because of god, and that's because of reasons, right? Right?
It's great how Tracie is kind of Matt's leash, holding that tiger back. lol I love when they host together!
They balance eacother out so well. She's the only one who when Matt gets going and takes the conversation over she can reign him in and get her points in.
Theyre the varsity squad for sure.
More like The Tiger is bowing to the superior creature-LOL!
In actuality there have been a few co host that can also. Martin, Aa Ron, Forrest V he seems to show them or respect also
I was opposed to putting children on leashes until I became a parent and took young children to a public place, like a zoo, and they repeatedly ran off. I don't think it is ideal, but I completely understand it, and yes, it is better than having them run off and possibly getting lost or injured.
The more Matt, the better! And Matt and Tracie - the dream team!
This show and their hosts are more important than ever!
Vote, and vote secular.
Please and thank you
Good to see ya again Tracie!! 👌
Spot on.
As someone who’s interacted with both him and Darth multiple times I think the problem is that he is a completely useless piece of shit. Total human garbage
Also he may well be a closet case who hates himself.
Well stated.
I don't think that he doesn't understand that.... He was asking a wholly different question.
I'd hate to see what's swirling around in Brojo's Thought Crime mind.
Sid made me happy. Smart caller, well-thinking person

Fear is the greatest weapon in God's Arsenal that's why the church created hell
@Andrew how they like to spin the word "fear" is obedience but if you are being threatened with hell for not "obeying" that god, it really means being scared of him or else suffer punishment.
@John Peter
Do you really "feel" hell is fake? How would you change your life if you found out it was real?
If hell were real I wouldn't change the way I live. So it doesn't matter

I hope Brojo never calls back again. What he just said was atrocious!
It's weird.
Dude, Sid. Youre awesome dude! Youre the smartest caller ive heard on this show so far. Very nice to listen to sid.
1:02:45 Well Matt wasn't lying when he said he's a non-violent guy. Only a non-violent guy wouldn't know you don't "stab" someone with a hatchet.

I hate how Brojo condescendingly always said "right" after every valid point Tracy and Matt made.
My favourite two hosts: Matt and Tracie.
I love you, Matt!
Wife was like, "oh! Hey! It's the super bowl today!" Me, "So?"

First caller, Sid's was an awesome call.
I just love watching that led light flashing on the back of the phone.
