I find it striking that proof exists about Jesus from unbiased sources outside of the Bible. Some of these writers have provided direct evidence of Christians, while others have provided indirect evidence of the existence of Jesus and of His crucifixion. The writings of these writers offer a peek into the current events taking place from the late first century to the late second century. I find difficulty in downplaying or explaining away these writer's writings on the account of the prestige and social position they held, and the disdain illustrated in some of their writing. I only provided writing for four writers and the remaining five writers are included in my table chart located on my channel.
Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus, Phlegon, Thallus, Julius Africanus, Flavius Josephus
Tacitus, The Greatest Roman historian and senator
Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judæa, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind.
He then describes the torture of Christians:
Mockery of every sort was added to their deaths. Covered with the skins of beasts, they were torn by dogs and perished, or were nailed to crosses, or were doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination, when daylight had expired. Nero offered his gardens for the spectacle, and was exhibiting a show in the circus, while he mingled with the people in the dress of a charioteer or stood aloft on a car. Hence, even for criminals who deserved extreme and exemplary punishment, there arose a feeling of compassion; for it was not, as it seemed, for the public good, but to glut one man’s cruelty, that they were being destroyed.
      Mara Bar-Serapion,
He was a Syrian philosopher, who wrote a letter to his son sometime after AD 73. There is only one manuscript of his letter in existence and preserved in the British Museum.
"What advantage did the Athenians gain from putting Socrates to death? Famine and plague came upon them as a judgment for their crime. What advantage did the men of Samos gain from burning Pythagoras? In a moment their land was covered with sand. What advantage did the Jews gain from executing their wise King? It was just after that that their kingdom was abolished. God justly avenged these three wise men: the Athenians died of hunger; the Samians were overwhelmed by the sea; the Jews, ruined and driven from their land, live in complete dispersion. But Socrates did not die for good; he lived on in the statue of Hera. Nor did the wise King die for good; he lived on in the teaching which he had given."
      Lucian,
"The Christians, you know, worship a man to this day-the distinguished personage who introduced their novel rites, and was crucified on that account. … You see, these misguided creatures start with the general conviction that they are immortal for all time, which explains their contempt of death and voluntary self-devotion which are so common among them; and then it was impressed on them by their original lawgiver that they are all brothers, from the moment that they are converted, and deny the gods of Greece, and worship the crucified sage, and live after his laws. All this they take quite on faith, with the result that they despise all worldly goods alike, regarding them merely as common property."
      Pliny the Younger,
Is another valuable historical source for information on Jesus and the early Church. Pliny was the governor of the Roman province of Bithynia, located in Asia Minor. In the year 112 AD, he wrote to the Emperor Trajan, asking how he should deal with those in his region who have been accused of being Christians.
In the letter, Pliny describes the practices of these “criminals”:
“They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food-but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.”

@James Powers Atheism doesn't seek to provide any answers in itself. Other things, like science, are in charge of that. Atheism in itself is just a lack of belief in gods because of a lack of evidence for said deities. Religion tries to give answers, and fails tremendously at proving them to be true.

Tragic that today BOTH these guys have ABANDONED caring about truth, and have both accepted beliefs, justified by 100% identical standard of evidence, AND by SPECIFIC evidence (or absence there-of) 100% identical, to that of Christianity, Islam, Scientology etc.
They (justifiably... back before they became blatnant hypocrites, at least) criticize Christians and other religions, for accepting beliefs, despite total absence of empirical evidence, and for defining "truth", justified ONLY by a (totally subjective, unfalsifiable, non-empirical) standard of evidence that "but it FEEELS true, to me..."
Yet TODAY, both Dillahunty and Ra hold a 100% faith-based belief that "trans-women ARE women"... despite a total absence of empirical of empirical evidence (in fact, EVERY SHRED of empirical evidence says the exact opposite; That defintionally, EVERY SINGLE """trans-woman""" is objectively an evidence-based MAN...) And that belief is justified ONLY by a totally subjective, unfalsifiable, non-empirical standard of evidence of "but... but it FEEELS true, to me!!!"
And like every other religion, they don't even TRY to rationally defend these beliefs, based on VERIFIABLE EVIDENCE (like they demand for every religion... EXCEPT their own...)
They just accuse non-believers of being evil, hateful sinners (or "hateful transphobes", in their own religious jargon. But the MEANING is exactly the same- "Sinner"/"transphobe" BOTH mean "anyone who rejects my 100% evidence-free, faith-based beliefs")

@@baconsarny-geddon8298a woman is somebody with certain physical characteristics. Such as breasts. It also includes a lot of socially typical characteristics such as long hair, certain clothes, etc. A trans woman fills most of these characteristics. This is because they have the hormonal makeup of a woman due to pills, which changes their body’s biology. The reason they do this is because they experience gender dysphoria. Cisgender people also experience gender dysphoria, in cases such as if a medication has a side effect altering their hormones. Thus, both cisgender and trans people take these pills in order to relieve gender dysphoria and fulfill the biological and social role of who they want to be. All of this seems logical to me, I don’t see how it is subjective to want people to live their best life, or to recognize that they have the hormonal makeup of a woman, or that they want to fulfill the social role of a woman. People like Aron and Matt tend to repeat nonstop that even if their sexuality is still male/female, their gender, which is the social role, they will regard how the other person wishes, which makes sense as that specific part is definitionally subjective.
All of this is to say, again, I don’t see the problem with considering trans women to be women. It is literally harmful to marginalize or treat people differently for being trans, both to them and society as a whole. Opinions like this are why some are convinced other people are biased against them, and would remove them from society if those people could.

Favorite bible verse section: Leviticus 14. The all knowing god instructs Moses on how to cure leprosy with a procedure that could not possibly ever work and involves all the elements and processes of a typical witchcraft ritual. It demonstrates that no all knowing god was telling this Moses character anything of actual value, debunking the very premise of the Bible itself.
A very close second is that bit about the name Amalek being blotted out from history. Dude has a wikipedia page and is mentioned in the Bible which itself ensured that name could not be blotted out from history. Possibly the dumbest thing this supposed god told anyone to ever do: Exodus 17:14 "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven." Epic fail. LOL

    • @gregorypdearth

Sure. 2:258 "Bethink thee of him who had an argument with Abraham about his Lord, because Allah had given him the kingdom; how, when Abraham said: My Lord is He Who giveth life and causeth death, he answered: I give life and cause death. Abraham said: Lo! Allah causeth the sun to rise in the East, so do thou cause it to come up from the West. Thus was the disbeliever abashed. And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk."
Nope. The Sun only appears to rise in the East and set in the West due to the rotation of Earth. No god is required for that to happen. Even if a god created it all, the REASON the Sun seems to rise in the East and set in the West is NOT because a god is causing that to happen, as this verse asserts. It is an apparent motion created by the rotation of the Earth. Fail.
2:222 "They question thee (O Muhammad) concerning menstruation. Say: It is an illness, so let women alone at such times and go not in unto them till they are cleansed. And when they have purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allah hath enjoined upon you. Truly Allah loveth those who turn unto Him, and loveth those who have a care for cleanness."
Nope. Menstruation is not an illness. It just isn't. But this is what we expect of primitive savages - a lack of understanding of the medical necessity of this natural bodily function. Fail.
And how about this logical contradiction and negation of free will:
2:10 "In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increaseth their disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie."
So... Allah INCREASES this disease? And then holds people accountable with eternal torment? This is absurdly immoral to the extent of an epic fail for a god also asserted to be relenting, merciful and benevolent.

Yatukih001 Not going to comment on 9-11. Something fishy may or may not have happened. Given the incredible stupidity and negligence of our government, I doubt a mass-conspiracy. I don't think there is enough brain-power in our collective government to pull that off. The evidence for a conspiracy is tenuous and circumstantial at best, though I still have this gut feeling that something fishy went down.
I don't get the reference to the "Dawkins Delusion." What specific delusion are you asserting there? The man speaks of evolution mostly, which to me hasn't anything to do with the subject of religion.
Even if evolution wasn't a demonstrable fact of reality, it wouldn't change the absence of evidence for theist/religious assertions. Even if we had no explanation for the diversity of life, we would then only have no explanation. It wouldn't make supernatural magical 'explanations' any more credible. We would still need evidence for any supernatural magical mechanism.
But given the scientific method is based on methodological naturalism, I doubt any verifiable supernatural mechanism could ever be demonstrated even IF it exists. At best, we would only be able to see and confirm natural effects without any indication of the supernatural cause.

The guy at the end who ask about punishment: I think that generally if someone did harm to you and they were unaware that what they were doing what going to have a negative effect on you, they should be educated instead of punished. However, if they had knowledge that what they were doing is bad, you need some sort of punishment, otherwise there is nothing to stop them from doing it again. That's why we have laws.

+DragonCharlz I think if you are going to define punishment as anything which a person doesn't choose to have happen to them, then you have set up an unanswerable question.
But I have an answer for the stupid twit. EVERYONE who lives in a civilized society, whether they implicitly or explicitly did so, agreed to live by that societies rules and laws, and thus accepts whatever retribution is mandated by those laws. If they disagree with them, then there is a legal avenue they can take to get it changed. Therefore it isn't punishment because they agreed to these laws.
Of course such people will complain that they dont agree at all with those laws, while sitting in their arm chair, in their house which is powered by the society they say they don't agree with, while sipping their iced tea, created by the society they say they dont agree with, in the safety and comfort provided by that society they say they don't agree with, and would be the FIRST people to cry foul if someone else were to do something to them which were to break the very same laws they dont agree with.
Fact is... dont like it, go live on an island and fend for yourself. But as long as you live WITHIN that society, you have agreed to everything that society contains, and thus you also agree be defacto to the rulings of the law which make you compensate the victims of the crimes you commit.

    • @DragonCharlz
      @DragonCharlz 9 лет назад

Enigmatical Jedi "I think if you are going to define punishment as anything which a person doesn't choose to have happen to them, then you have set up an unanswerable question." - In this instance, I would add the fact that it is a consequence for another action.
Now... I strongly disagree with the "just leave if you don't like it" concept, mainly because of civil rights movements. Now, if you exclude those, then yeah, I agree. But they're a major exception.

    • @enigmaticaljedi6808
      @enigmaticaljedi6808 9 лет назад

DragonCharlz Of course if you want to change them then you are perfectly free to ABIDE by those laws while you use the mechanisms available to you to try and get it changed, but I was talking more about those people who live "within" a society and yet claim the laws dont apply to them because they never agreed to it, and somehow think it is acceptable for them to do whatever they want without recourse.
In those circumstances, where the person is refusing to accept the law... feel free to leave the country and go live on your own under your own rules.

    • @EvolBob1
      @EvolBob1 9 лет назад

+DragonCharlz - Without justice people will take the law into their own hands. And I see very little justice around.
So how should we deal with criminals?
In the USA they just throw you jail for a long time for trivial offences, other places simply ignore the issue where you can get away with murder (NZ).
You can't punish if the person doesn't accept that he or she deserves it... you might feel better, but they will only hold resentment toward you and what you represent. Prison then becomes a breeding ground for bitter and better educated criminals, in the not-getting-caught sense.
Prison should only be a last resort, and even then always provide the prisoner the opportunity for redemption (to go through a difficult program of reform), and to pass each test of character. Prison is only there to protect society and rehabilitate inmates, not to punish. The attempt at redemption is their punishment, as is their refusal to participate - then they stay there until they do: There is no point in allowing someone, who has no intention to stop but desires to continually offend, their freedom. Denying their freedom is their only punishment, but it is one they are in control of.
But long before we use imprisonment, there are many innovative ways to send the message. If you dump rubbish: You get put on a work detail to pickup liter, or clean up graffiti, or help animals at your local SPCA, or provide food and shelter to the hungry & homeless, or help build a house, repair a car, repay a debt, work at a hospital, or do whatever is needed to redeem the damage that was caused, 10 fold.
      Otherwise its prison.

@1:12:00 No one has ever demonstrated a mechanism by which we can confirm the existence of the supernatural. And until that happens you cant confirm supernatural causation. Which means you cant begin to determine how likely it is that any single event actually has a supernatural cause. Which means you cant possibly determine that a supernatural explanation is more probable. And if we understand this, god understands this. That he hasnt addressed this, is confirmation that either he doesnt exist or doesnt want to confirm his existence. Either way, not my problem. Either way, we cannot have a justified rational belief in a god.

Hmm, to pick up on that "justice vs. revenge" question, it's kind of loaded.
We're told that we're "getting justice for the victim".
But if justice is not naturally forthcoming for the victim, of its own accord without any intervention, then the act of us then going to "get justice" for them - to intervene, on their behalf - would always involve causing something that would not otherwise naturally happen, to happen. It would necessarily involve compulsion against an otherwise unwilling perpetrator (if not unwilling, then they would have already offered to make recompense themselves, of their own accord, and it would not require any intervention on our part).
Also, I'd say that, if you've reached this point, then you're in "curative" and not "preventative" mode.
The crime has already happened. You can't take back the past. The victim has suffered and you can't remove that, because it's a state that now exists in the past and none of us has any power to alter past events.
Prevention is be better than cure. There would be no victim, as there was no crime. There would be nothing needed to "take back". The perpetrator, for having chosen to avoid committing the crime, is a better person for that.
So how do we bring about that prevention?
Well, we can note that nearly all crimes have an economic component. Drug dealers are selling a product for money. Prostitutes are doing the same. Burglars are trying to circumvent "the money problem" by just taking what they want. The black market - that "fences" those stolen goods - is all about making money. Fraud is economic.
There are, of course, non-economic crimes. Crimes of passion - a husband killing his wife and her lover in rage at her betrayal - and so forth. Plus, we can see that the crimes of a drug addict might be economic, but they're stealing in order to obtain the money to feed their habit - so that is economic but with a non-economic (rather a medical) motivation to do so.
But, basically, if you wrote that big list of all crimes, then went down the list and struck out all the economic crimes, you would be removing the vast overwhelming majority of that list.
It's worth noting that, if you look at the crime rates over the centuries, there has been a slow and steady decline - as the advancement of technology has brought a better quality of life to even the poorest. You'll note that it gets worse in times of economic trouble - recessions - and then improves again in times of prosperity.
We also implicitly understand this correlation, even if we refuse to acknowledge it. Because let's say I can offer you the choice to live in a richer neighbourhood or a poorer neighbourhood. Note that I'm supplying absolutely no more information than that. One is richer, the other poorer. What's your choice?
We already all know you said "richer". And why? Because you do understand that crime rates are higher in poor neighbourhoods. That the schools won't be as good. That, more subtly, if you petitioned the authorities to build the community a park in the richer neighbourhood than the poorer one, you'd have a damn sight better chance of succeeding - because we humans allow those in poverty to just rot (that's why you know the poor school very likely won't be as good, as the children of the poor are allowed to just rot - which is perfectly unjust, as that's very much like Biblical justice of punishing the child for the circumstances of the parent).
Basically, what I'd advocating is to eliminate poverty.
Yeah, I know. How the hell do we do that? That's quite a "tall order" that I'm making there. And I have no easy answers to that one, except to say that, well, we just keep striving - with science, technology and engineering, the overall humanist endeavour - to keep making the world a slightly better place and hope we'll eventually get most of the way there at some point.
Or, to look at it a different way, we should be intervening to obtain justice for the victims NOW. Not later, once some crime has occurred against them, where we're left with the impossibility of "taking back" things that already happened in the past.
Drug addicts need medical help. Those with mental illness need medical help. Everyone needs a reasonable prosperity across the board. We must not allow the disadvantaged to just rot in a corner, as long as "I'm alright, Jack" myself.
Take away all the reasons for crime. Intervene to obtain "equal justice for all" right now, before everything goes wrong.
That's really the only way it can ultimately be done.

I don't know if this quote works but I thought of it when reading this "In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him." We can only help people truly by understanding what they need, and what they lacked to get where they are. Activating, or creating a catalyst within someone can be difficult if you don't know what kind or where to put it to have the most effect, but we must then continue to seek understanding if we wish to continue trying to help that person.

This stuff comes out out of the Christian Seminars beginning around the middle the 19th century . If you really want to learn go to a Hebrew bible class from a university . This is the best part about the Hebrew Bible. People just have the wrong idea because of the Neo-fundo-Evangelical-movement. He, Aron. just doesn't see how ignorant of the subject he is. Go to a Lutheran Presbyterian Catholic . Simplistic . Methodist church . They teach this . I began about 35 years ago . Other wise other than his lack of biblical skills i agree with him but he Referring to Christians with a broad brush maybe to keep himself from possibly self examination.s. So for Christians who have been to Modern University biblical studies classes can see how stupid he is. We have know all this for 150 years . This is one of the reasons for the big split. Many Ministered the ones with real Doctrine Degree know this but no one cares nor has the time to study it . A little test check Isiah Chapter fro vitrification of Isiah that Aron is referring to / See the *Documentary if you really care or are you troll.

What makes you think humanist societies don't promote critical thinking and the scientific method? That's specifically what it _glorifies_ because those two things have done absolute wonders for humanity as a species. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanism - _"Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence (rationalism, empiricism) over acceptance of dogma or superstition."_
I think you might be confusing it for something else. What you said is nonsensical; it's like saying "Why do I not want to join an atheist society? Because I am interested in critically analyzing claims that gods exist."

On spanking/hitting a child: in overwhelmingly MOST cases, it's unnecessary; I generally reserve it for a level of reckless behavior that carries real potential of serious risk or behavior that demonstrates a degree of attitude that resembles sociopathy.
Most of the time, bad behavior out of my kids gets the removal of something -- no treats, no TV, no preferred activities, etc. But I won't rule out spanking -- just haven't handed out a spanking in well over a year, maybe more.

Clyde S. Dale. So, spanking isn’t t good, but it’s necessary for important lessons? Your statement and the replies that follow are a good start but they share a fundamental flaw, your point of view.
Punishment creates fear of authority. Yes, it affects the targeted behavior, but it causes unintended consequences and often fails when the authority is not present.
Enrollment is a better strategy. Enroll your child in the desired behavior. Communicate why the desired behavior is important. Use the teaching moment to share your deep love for the child. Your goal is for the child to internalize proper behavior, it’s reasons and emotions. The behavior becomes part of the child’s own values and the authority does not have to be forever present.
Here is an example. The oven is hot and your toddler is in the kitchen with you. You can smack her on the head whenever she gets near the oven or you can give her a hug while you extend your hand toward the oven, say hot and pull your hand away. Include all the emotion in your voice to illustrate a burn and show her by protecting her hand. Now, when she wanders near the oven don’t revert to what yer momma did and smack her on the head with the wooden spoon. Know that she’s not willfully disobeying. She just forgot. Reinforce, communicate with touch and affection.
It’s to be expected that your child will test you and you will let them experience some natural consequences but usually they are excited to be living and got carried away in the moment, and you only need to remind them. The downside is that you miss out on the emotional catharsis you get from hitting your child. You can get your therapy elsewhere. Remember, you are a teacher, a guide, a loving parent.
I wasn’t the best parent, but I never found it necessary to “punish” my children. My son once told me that he wanted to rebel but he just couldn’t think of anything rebellious he wanted to do. I reminded him that he had gotten a tattoo.

    • @BornOnThursday
      @BornOnThursday 5 лет назад +1

I have no children, but I've talked to plenty of people and here's my thought. There is no absolute solution to raise a misbehaved kid. I would reason that our psychology is complex enough that you will have to study your kid to see what works and doesn't work. We can't assume our reaction to a punishment will be the same for our children. I know I would like an easy go to for keeping my (future) child behaved, but you cannot simply imitate being a parent, you must be a parent, which may be like imitation until you make it your own.
