To be honest, I don't think he was trying to eat Audrey. If he was trying to eat Audrey, she would've been gone as fast as Mr.Mushnik was. I think Audrey II was giving Seymour a warning not to get out of line and not mess with him. Not to mention Audrey II allowed Seymour to open his mouth to free Audrey. I seriously doubt Seymour would've had the strength to open Audrey II's mouth if he was really clamping down on Audrey.
It's a puppet! If I remember correctly, the puppet was slower than what we see. The human actors had to speak and sing at a rate that matched its sluggishness, and those scenes were sped up later.
the vines are animatronic, and yeah, they played a slow version of levi's lines to get more accurate lipsyncs rather than trying to impossibly move that giant mouth and sync on the spot
It's a fucking masterpiece of a puppet... the way the lips stick to each other while speaking, the movement. Or I'm stupid and it is post-processed by CGI, not sure if that was already a thing back then but even if, even more impressive they got it the way it looked.
I got the DVD of the movie, and in the special features menu it tells how the plant was made. It was a creation from the Jim Henson company, and consisted of 2,000 miles (yes, miles) of cable, a nuclear generator, and over 11,000 hand painted leaves and foliage. To think that a low-budget, 1970s black and white film that was shot in only 2 days with leftover props inspired this remake.
Well that is somewhat of a scary song. I think the scariest part was when Mr. Mushnik first snuck out of the dark and confronted Seymour downstairs about Dr. Scrivillo's death. "You love her madly, don't you?" I think the other thing scary looking was the blueish purple inside of the Audrey II's mouth from Audrey's point of view.
I can’t stop watching this scene, it’s perfect. This and the other suppertime scene are the best scenes in the movie. Audrey ii is by far the best character.
@shirleyjenlion187 That's true. She should have stayed in her apartment but, I guess she didn't know that the plant was a carnivore that eats humans. However, she should have suspected that Audrey 2 was a man eating plant after seeing that her dentist boyfriend has disappeared and noticing that Mr. Mushnik was gone and never seen again.
@@jacoriandent1004 I agree, she should have not gone in there after seeing that the plant can talk after noticing it's giant size especially maybe she should have suspected that something didn't seem right after noticing that her dentist boyfriend has disappeared and that Mr. Mushnik was gone and never seen again. However, I'm guessing if she walked in later at the time Seymour came in at 2:06, she might have said "Seymour, what is this about the plant talking?" where Seymour would have said "Audrey, stay back don't go near it" and maybe he would have to be honest saying that it ate Orin Schivello and Mr. Mushnik and lives on human blood.
@@edyoung44 In the musical, they both die at the end, and since the 1986 movie is an adaptation of the stage musical, technically that ending is the original (though if we really wanna get picky, the 1960 movie ending where Seymour gets eaten but Audrey lives would technically be the original). The movie ending where Seymour and Audrey live is the alternate, theatrical ending.
I just really love "Noo, it ain't Seymour! Hehe, it's ME!" for some reason. 0:30 Also the way Audrey ll touches people sometimes, it's.... Just a lil' weird 😭
After Audrey 2 said "oh relax doll it will be easy" from 1:52-1:54, it's too bad his other line was cut out from the original ending where he said "come join your dentist friend and Mushnik, they're right inside."
Until this scene, I seriously wonder if this is all in his head. No one else ever hear the plant talk or saw it move. Is it possible he was using the plant to cover up his crimes, in his head atleast
Yes. This is the Good Ending version. Notice The Plant says “I’ll make it nice and easy” instead “Come join your Dentist BF and Mushnik Boss”. That part is deleted to make way for Audrey surviving in the Final cut,
@@blighter. i don't think anything can capture the same astonishment and impossible physical fear you would get from seeing a living plant with teeth and no tounge or eyes not to mention it just looks cool
Stubbs also brought a lot of baritone soul to the character. Before that and pretty much entirely after, audrey 2 has a deep and mostly monotone voice. I prefer the 2002 broadway revival of little shop but stubbs is who i grew up listening to as the character and is still my favorite performance of audrey 2
The pure ENERGY coming from Levi Stubbs, his voice is somethin' else. Paired with that funky bassline and groove, this is the best song!
No question!
🎵C-C-C-C-C-C-C'MON!🤣
Personally I like the first suppertime. Levi is so great in all his songs though
Facts
Audrey II is focused on world domination, yet still makes sure to check to see if the phone gave him change... 0:45
On top of everything else, he's a money-grubbing cheapskate.
Fits in with his greedy personality.
Hey, ruling the world ain't cheap.

the plant tryin to get its quarter back gets me every time 😂
The little details like the plant tapping its "fingers" and checking for change just make this movie.
I really don't see how these effects could be improved upon, goddamn
