For the past three nights I've been able to view this comet as a faint naked eye target with a long smudge of a tail. I found the view on October 14th to be the most dramatic due to the Sun setting earlier and the comet being higher in the sky! It's the best comet I've viewed with the naked eye since Hale-Bopp back in the 90s. Keep enjoying the show for the next several days!
i saw this morning around 5:20am in Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 with the sunrise the view was insane!!!!!!! my uncle who is 60yrs plus had the privilege to watch it with me
@@LateNightAstronomy So I am in California, my quest starting on what day and what time do I need to go out with my 12X50 Action Nikon Bino, to watch the comet?
Can someone help me see the comet? I keep looking for it after sunset, but I can’t find it or see it. Can someone give me some tips on how I can see the comet better? 😅
@@Geographyhumann If you have a camera or just use your phone, you can take a picture of the comet. This is the easiest way to see it. Right now, it is hard to see it with your eyes.
Thank you so much for your excellent explanation about what's happen in the night sky on October 2024, Fantasticmonth to explore the night sky ! Very informatively graphic to show us where to follow your very interesting explanation. Have learnt so much now. You of course got my like and a abo ! Many thanks and always clear sky !
I saw it on Wednesday in India, Kerala. Me and my friends had randomly decided to go to the place where the water tank of our college was situated and I saw this white tiny dot passing and I showed it to my friends. Then, we didn't know what it actually was but now we got to k ow it. Super happy and excited that we got to see a comet for the first time ever. That too coincidently.

I live in Pahrump NV, a place known for it's dark skies, on the 14th of Oct. 2024 AT 19:00 local time, I went outside and looked for the comet, near Venus there was NOTHING TO SEE
arent you the packers head coach Matt L?...thanks for the info ,graciously!! Yes my nephew and I are gonna see it in NW WI..Which always begs an explanation about space and time and life
I'm trying to document the TCrB the last few weeks. Hope it will come soon. I"m waiting for the comet too after sunset. Here in Canada, I think it will be tricky to spot... I'll try anyways ;) Great video. From Canada.
Tried to see the comet few days ago, but too bad it was quite cloudy during the morning. Will try again to locate the comet again after its perihelion. Hopefully able to see it.
I try to incorporate major events such as this month's comet and meteor showers for the Southern Sky perspective. I hope to one day travel and observe from the Southern Hemisphere!
For the most part yes! Views will be slightly different when you get closer to the equator but it should work well for most in the Northern Hemisphere.

Let's change the stars! What I mean is, get the IAU to, OFFICIALLY, make a new constellation. Figure it's time to put something up there relevant to us, don't you think? My idea for changing the stars is called, "Mickey," I mean, "THE ALL-STAR," and includes Orion, Taurus and Pleiades (Subaru). Ok, start at Orion's belt and "Betelgeuse" becomes the head with a baseball hat. The 3 stars of Orion's belt make up the 3 fat belt loops on a baseball uniform. Below the belt are two legs bending at the knee. "Saiph" is the back foot and "Rigel" is the front foot. The spear pointing at "Subaru/Pleiades" is the bat and "Subaru/Pleiades" is the baseball flying away after being hit. "Bellatrix" is the hand that let go and "Aldebaran" of Taurus is the bat's tip. Put it all together and you get, "THE ALL-STAR." In my case, I see a left-handed batter with a, "7," on the jersey. Which makes him, "Mickey." (As it should be) But it can be a righty or lefty with any number you want. Making, "THE ALL-STAR," any player you want and a perfect fit in our night sky. Pass it on, please and thank you.
No. I want MY stars and constellations, not yours xD Also, who are you to want to impose your personal fanficton on official world science? What a narcissist point of view.
At best, 4 season solstice and equinoxes should be renamed to reflect the GLOBAL phenomena and not the northern seasons its based on. Winter solstice(December)? Bch please, my region has only rainy and dry(december - may) season, and to the south is summer. Better just rename that to Southern solstice, since that's where GLOBALLY the sun is at, which means more sun for the south hemisphere, less for north.
@@hermitcard4494 Orion is up, now. Look at what I'm talking about and tell me you don't see it. For the record, my parents were teachers and taught this to their students. ALL those students teaching their children. So on and so on.... I've already changed the stars. ;-P
Solar flares! Should hit earth by tonight and peak Sat/Sunday. Aurora Borialis should be visible in dark skies far stretching as North of the U.S.A. states:):)
In Australia, daylight saving start this weekend, so come October 12-16, Comet Tsuchinshan Atlas might not be as visible as simulated in the video. I’ll be keeping an eye out nevertheless!

I wish I could see any of these brilliant events. Unfortunately every time it happens we are in cloud or it’s raining. It is very frustrating
After Hale bopp I can't be bothered. We all got sick of it After the first 2 weeks, but I will be sure to see it next time it visits.
Oh, this one is cool too - just think @ it 44 million miles away- the tail a million miles long and we can see it???

Same for me!
Comet C/2024 S1 (Atlas) is supposed to be the brightest of the year.
I'll be looking into that comet and if it looks like it will survive the sun might be doing a video on it soon.

Amazing Video!!! I loved it! Keep up the great work
Thank you! Will do!
Will the comet show up after sunset in Oklahoma? I want to see it, but staying outside in the wee hours of the night to see it is not an option..
You mentioned the Orionids, but the Draconids will also peak on this 8th, with less competition from the moon.
That's a good point. I tend to only mention "major" meteor showers but hat dracoinds can be an interesting "variable" shower as well! Good point!
I saw this Van Buren Missouri on Saturday (scout camp out)

They are typically named after the person/observatory and satellite that discovered/confirmed them. That is the case for this one as well.
