    I'm another fan of the bodyshell! I may just have to pick this one up :D Never had a Hornet or Grashopper.

      Good man, I love the super dragon body , it’s very much like marmite , and I like it

      Thanks for the comment :) yes the body is a little marmite but like you say it’s a hornet and they are great fun :) cheers

    I think it looks cool tbh. I like the Thunder Dragon and Fire Dragon too.
    They may not be conventionally good looking but I think by now they can be appreciated for their eccentricity.
    It's kind of the same as all the garish day glo styling schemes on RCs from the 80s and 90s, they are garish and vulgar like shellsuits and 90s trainers but we can now look back at them and have a great admiration for them as examples of the style back then.
    I guess every bold style/fashion movement goes through the same process. It's hip, then it becomes dated and a laughable and then finally, it becomes respected as being representative of a movement.
    God knows we could do with more creative body designs these days.

      Cheers for the great comment and I hope you enjoyed the video. I agree , I personally love the Body shell of this buggy , it’s a marmite design. I genuinely like the odd looking stuff that Tamiya release. As a general consensus I think buggy design styling lacks imagination these days and I’ve never been a real fan of the can forward look with the exception of a few buggy’s. Cheers and take care

    Could use a bit more pep like a 20 turn brushed motor on that 7.2v nimh pack & perhaps some of those 3d printed parts that makes the rear suspension work better & mounts the battery lid in place better on jumps.

      Funny that , I’ve just been comparing it to my Ghopper and it weighs in about 50g less there is a weight difference of 16g in the GHopper tyres over the hornet ones. The SSD definitely felt more nimble out of the two. GHopper wins on cool factor though ;) I think if I change the motor in it I’d go for a torque tuned , but I’ll be racing it in a kit built beam axle class and bearings are the only mod allowed. In regards to retaining the battery I have a large servo saver screwed in underneath that flips over the battery tray to keep it closed :) thanks again for your comment

    Run starts at 2:50, tyres worn out at 3:00 :P

      Thanks for the comments , yes on did very light running with those tyres as I didn’t want to trash them as I’ve been using them inside at our local club for carpet racing and wanted descent tread for racing ;) cheers

    It doesn't look that bad to me(I think I may pick one up in the future)
    The weird-ish design fits in with the manga published in Coro Coro Comic that it starred in: Radicon Boy. Where the Super Dragon was the main buggy of the protagonist

      I love it , looks wise but I can see why so many people dislike it, it’s pretty weird looking and like you say the SD and others were spawned from the Coro Coro comics

      @@andyrobinsonrc2480 I agree.. The Weird design fits in with the design in the Manga publication. You would know which buggy belonged to the protagonist as there was nothing else like it on the market. Say we give him... I don't know, but a Hornet, at a glance on a few pages it would be hard for the reader to recognise which RC Buggy belonged to the protagonist(for a similar reason to why the Mini 4WD protagonists start with a generic Mini 4WD before getting the main Mini 4WD which they use for basically everything, so readers wouldn't be confused if it was the heroes Boomerang Jr with a Hornet Jr, Hotshot Jr against a team of 3 Boomerang Jr's)

      I still think it’s a bit ugly, but I personally love it and I race a SSD in the hornet/hopper race class at my local club . Love them!

    Do you happen to know if there is a way to widen the front wheel spacing? I was thinking about buying those CRP axle extenders and then shimming the wheels until the spacing is right. Only thing would be it might change the handling a bit and make each a-arm a little more fragile. Hmm.

    • @andyrobinsonrc2480
      @andyrobinsonrc2480  3 года назад

      Hi there , I wouldn’t bother with wheel extenders but you can fit grasshopper 2 front wishbones with widen the track at the front , you may need to slightly modify them to fit though :)

    • @p38lightning7
      @p38lightning7 3 года назад +1

      Andy Robinson RC If you don't mind me asking, have you ever tried this modification before?

    • @andyrobinsonrc2480
      @andyrobinsonrc2480  3 года назад +1

      Personally no I’ve not done it to any of mine but a friend of mine has, check out Swift-RC he has a Facebook page full of builds , he’s done that mid in a few cars. If you compare a hornet with a grasshopper 2 you will see that the front wishbones and track are pretty more the same as the rear, where as the hornet the rear is wider :)

    Anyone knows which of the AMPRO rear axle parts from shapeways are the correct version for this hornet version ?

    • @andyrobinsonrc2480
      @andyrobinsonrc2480  3 года назад

      Is it to mount the super hornet suspension on the hornet axle?

    • @andyrobinsonrc2480

      Yep ugly but definitely fun ;)

    • @superplushtiman7ti075
      @superplushtiman7ti075 2 года назад

      I personally don't see why they look ugly
      it was either that Kaoru Ohbayashi[mangaka behind Radicon Boy, the series published in Coro Coro Comic[where the dragon came from] which it starred in] gave Gou Kuruma[the protagonist] a generic buggy that wouldn't be easily recognised by readers[which he did use early on, in his Hotshot, but he did put the Super Dragon body onto], or something that stood out on the page, which is what they went for, hence why the Super Dragon, Thunder Dragon, Fire Dragon and Saint Dragon looked so weird
      So of course they would look rather weird by our standards, but look fine on the pages

    So it's just a fucking overpriced grasshopper with different shell
