- Following last weeks kiln opening video, where we unloaded the poppy seed heads and planter using copper oxide and Bullseye Glass Frit, this weeks video shows how I remove the kiln cookies from the work and dremelling using my Einhell drill and diamond tipped ends to give the work a smooth finish.
I use non-genuine Dremel ends purchased from Amazon called:

Thanks Sarah for a 'behind the scenes look' at what you do when it's just you and your studio. Being a student you don't always know or, in some cases don't want to know, all the work that's involved to make our experience more enjoyable. Thankyou x😊
Thanks for watching Denise. Always great to hear from you 😊
Super helpful, Sarah! It's always nice to see how other potters tackle the gnarly jobs of pottery! Take care!
Thanks so much Audrey. Not the most glamorous part of being a potter! Thanks for your kind words 😊
Thank you for this video! My hubby has had this tool, but did not know I can use it for my pottery! I can polish my pottery now!
Great news! Thanks for watching. Have fun 😊
Angle grinders frighten me as well! Thank you Sarah for this info, I will certainly get some of those tips, as I only purchased small diamand discs a few months ago, and the diamand tips do a great job. Now I can still get some more life out of my Kiln shelves as well and keep the new ones for later 😊 love your videos, you are so generous with sharing so much info and I have learned a lot from you😊
Awww thanks so much Gina. Great to hear 👍 😊
Thank you Sarah! Perfect timing :) Just had a couple of my pieces that I have to dremmel and here is your video to help me!
That's great news. So pleased it will help you 😀. Thanks for watching 👀
Thank you so much for the “how to” video!! I have a Dremel and a number of items that need grinding but was unsure of how to do it. Now I’m ready to try it out 😊
Thanks so much for watching. Glad it's been helpful. Good luck with your pieces 😊

Thanks for watching Sheila. My least favourite job!
@@thepotterycorner you are welcome 👍
Thanks for this. I use a number of things, including a hammer and chisel, grinding block and angle grinder (and I'm a girl!) to clean my kiln shelves. I do kiln wash them, and find that most drips pop off with a tap from the chisel. Also, I have a cordless Dremel. I love it! It works great for any number of things, and I'm not tied to an electrical outlet. Perhaps I'll try it on some of the more stubborn small drips next time.
I'm glad you had a great trip, and welcome back!
Thanks so much for watching. CORDLESS - 🤯 - better get hubby to upgrade 😆
Ia there a reason why you dont use kiln wash? Thanks so much for this video.
@@micheledickey4066 - yes there's a reason Michele - I find kiln wash becomes 'dusty' after a couple of firings and can blow around the inside of the kiln and attach to work. Hope that makes sense 😊
Very helpful video. Thank you for the practical tips!
Thanks so much for watching. Hope it was useful. 😊
Thanks!! Was dreading how to do this. Once again you saved me ❤
Thanks for watching- glad to be of service! 😊
thanks for this demonstration of using a dremmel. I used mine today for the first time and will attack my shelves tomorrow. Brilliant.
Aww thanks Sally. Horrible job but necessary! You're lucky because you have Advancer shelves! Great to hear from you 😊

Sarah, been missing you, is everything all okay? Hoping you are well and that life is treating you ok.... heart emoji (if only i knew how to do that) xxx
Hi Fay and thanks for watching. All is a bit challenging at present. I have elderly parents who need my support so time for YouTubing has suffered. I'm hoping to get back to this soon so stay tuned 😊
@@thepotterycorner Thanks for taking the time to reply. I understand having nursed my father through alzheimers until his sad death 2 years ago, my time was completely eaten up, I hope you are managing to do a little personal work as I certainly suffered from not being able to do any art it is so important for our souls. x
@@a705fay - my father was diagnosed with Alzheimers in December last year. He has had a pretty rapid deterioration which is sad. I am trying to do some work, mainly towards sculpture, which is helping to keep me sane! As you well know it is pretty challenging at times. Thanks for your support - much appreciated. Sarah
Thank you for sharing the actual process, after this video I’m not afraid to use a dremmell 🙏🏻. Where and how do you throw away the tiny little pieces of glass from the sheet? Any tricks?
Thanks for watching Gabrielle. Great to have you along. Any shards of glass I would wrap in paper or similar before throwing away just in case someone gets injured from them in the waste process. 😊
My husband uses the angle grinder 😮.. i going to use the dremmel 😂
Absolutely- I love my fingers 😁
I hope you’re well ? Missing your beautiful videos xx
Hi and thanks for watching. Life is pretty busy with ageing parents at the moment which leaves me no time to produce new content. I am hoping to return to more in the future so keep an eye out. Thanks for checking in with me - much appreciated. 😊
This was brilliant thanks. I LOVE using my Dremel, any excuse to get it out!!
Thanks for watching Wendy. Love a power tool! 😊
Hi Sarah. Thanks for a VERY useful video. I have (well my husband has) an Einhell and I have spent god only knows how much on so called bits for “ceramics”, only to be bitterly disappointed. Following your video I took a note of the accessories you used. I ummed and ahhed- would they be any good? I had a kiln disaster in the week - a lamp base came off the stilts and rolled into a Santa!😢. I ordered the bits straightaway and this morning me and hubby tackled the mess that was left after I managed to separate them with a hammer. Gotta say it was so easy! Well worth the money. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Anita in N Dorset
Aww thanks so much Anita. Great to hear it helped. Horrible job but has to be done sometimes. 😀
Thanks Sarah this is really useful. Do you use your Dremel for smoothing the base of mugs?
Hi Jan and thanks for watching. I most certainly do if there are any bumps. 😊
Hi again Sarah! I’m going to purchase a rotary sander but unsure what type and wattage etc I need. Can you help me with how heavy duty I need to go eg what wattage and other info would be really helpful as so many price ranges and makes and don’t want to spend heaps of a cheaper one ok but don’t want to waste money by having to upgrade! Thanks again Lynne NZ
Hi Lynne and thanks for watching. Mine is an Einhell - not cordless but there is a cordless version on Amazon - Einhell TE-MT 7.2 Li Cordless Rotary Tool Kit | Battery Powered Crafting Multi Tool Kit With Variable Speed Electronics | With 57 Piece Accessory Set and Case For Grinding, Engraving, Polishing - which is a very similar spec to mine. Hope that helps.
@@thepotterycorner thanks Sarah for the specs v very helpful 👍,
