Every city needs an honest guide. I dont have any plans to visit Prague in the future, but I watch every video. You inspire me to get off the beaten path and explore the lesser known areas of other cities on my travels.
I have been 4 times on this lookout tower already because I live nearby but whenever I felt this staircase had moved just a little bit, I gave up climbing :D Thumbs up, guys!
The translation of "vzducholoď" is "airship." A blimp is a type of airship without internal structures, whereas a Zeppelin is a model of rigid airship.
Next Sunday I will be in Prague for the first time and I will be staying for a week. I will definitely visit this tower. It looks very impressive and the view from the top looks amazing and quite unique in its own way. Oh and Janek... you should not fear heights, it's the depth you should be worried about.😊
5:12 Bonus Czech words: "rajská zahrada" means "Garden of Eden" in Czech ("rajsk(ý/á/é)" means either "related to tomato" or "paradisal/heavenly", and "zahrada" means "garden"). As someone who loves tomatoes, I approve of the semantic coincidence (in particular, you could say a heavenly tomato soup is a "rajská rajská polévka" in Czech) 👍
@@SolarisUrbinoFan That's so interesting! Apparently the full word in German is Paradiesapfel (paradise apple), referring to the (biblical) fruit of the forbidden tree (though the bible doesn't specify what fruit that was). The Wiktionary entry for Paradiesapfel also says that "similar forms for 'tomato', perhaps borrowed from German, exist in several eastern European languages". Geovisualist (in the article "I Say Tomato, You Say… Apple of Paradise?") also seems to confirm that: "a different name arose in some German dialects: Paradiesapfel, or 'apple of paradise', which for anyone who has eaten a ripe one right from the vine is an apt description. Although modern Germans say tomate, Austrians call it a paradieser, and variants of this were adapted into Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Serbian and others".
I'm so glad I found this channel. Thanks so much honest guides... Heading to Prague in July 2024 for a convention and can't wait to explore on my free time.
We went to this park on a very hot day on one of our many trips to Prague, it was fantastic. Metro line to Cerny Most if I remember correctly, the park is huge, has lakes with frogs in that are so loud 😊 amazing environment, the look out tower is an amazing structure but I'm so scared of heights I couldn't do it, the tower itself shakes as you walk up but again the park where it is located is stunning, full of different spots and lovely walks. Located outside the city so it's nice and quiet. Great video as always guys 👍
Yeah, I too am very afraid of heights, so I triple tapped that like button to make sure it’s liked. My hat’s off to you Janek for climbing that structure!
Another great episode as always guys! I will be returning to Prague for my second visit in October, i was inspired by your channel on my first visit and am still inspired by you and that’s why I shall be returning to beautiful Prague! 🙂
Please cover outside Prague and even the broader Czech Republic. The center is being ruined by all these tourist stores, etc. It’s not the Prague I so enjoyed in the past 10-20 years.
I appreciate you overcoming your fear just for us, and what a great idea to burn trash for heat. Thanks for sharing, I’ve saved this for on my map for later.
*THUMBS UP* for climbing that lookout tower! :) I once had massive phobia of spiders, but then I spent some relaxed time around them (we had a house on a big lake with many huge spiders) and realised: there's no need to fear them (as long as they are not poisonous which they are not here) - maybe you'll overcome your fear too, if I can do it, you can do it!!:) kind regards
Cool metro stacked station, Vienna has such too, but all are underground. Mostly noticable at the Stubentor station. But i like the Prague one more, looks more modern and visually appealing
Amsterdam (De Pijp) and London (Chancery Lane) are also “double decker” stations. But I fully agree that Rajská zahrada is the most beautiful of its kind. Looking forward to visit Prague in 2025 and hopefully I can take a ride on one of the old metro train tours.
Great content guys! Wish we'd seen this last week while in Prague, but now we are home in UK again. Will add to my Prague playlist as we are definitely coming back to your wonderful city.
So cool! Your channel is also great inspiration for those who live in Prague. I already had this tower to my “want to go” list, but now feel even more motivated :)
Yeah. I am not sure if it can be considered recycling but it is definitely not reused. Reusing means using the "trash" in its original form for the same thing again or finding another use for it.
Burned, but still is the energy from it without massive transportation cost. More useful, than shipping garbage to China where is burned 95% our plastics.
Been since 2017 that I last visited Prague. Pretty much been wanting to return since the day I left. I will visit again, and hopefully meet Honsa this time.
I really enjoyed the Petrin Tower and surrounding areas. There is a really lovely garden by it. Plus the planetarium. I would head back if the funicular was working as it was a long time up!
re cutting off locks en masse: That would be a great destination for the Lock Picking Lawyer and locksport groups in general. I wonder if people ever show up there to pick locks for fun and get locks to keep.
Honestly, that looks terrifying. I climbed the other tower (the one that is 10 euros) and experienced vertigo for the first time in my life as I was reaching the top. I went down as soon as possible.
I stayed in my friend's flat (one the overlooks that park) for a couple weeks and took a walk there after I noticed it from the balcony. I was the only one there for an hour or so too. There was also a geocache that required gathering information from the steps. I messed it up the first time so I had to walk back up it two times 🤦♂️😂
small note - Vzducholoď is Airship, and airships can be built as Blimps, or non-rigid airship - without internal skeleton an as Zeppelins, or rigid airship - with internal construction
Count me in for a video on the garbage facility with the tower! It reminds me, on my first trip to Czech Republic, I was taking a photo of the back of a house where there was a dumpster, and my Czech cousin made fun of me because it wasn't anything special. But to me, it was very interesting looking! lol
Janek having fear of heights? I'm very surprised after the video where you placed the new bell in sv. Havel. That looked very impressive and now even more knowing your fear.
I'm like you, also very scared of heights. I could go there but I would never go op this moving stairs. 😂 Cudos for you doing this just to show this beauty to us 👍
1:05 it is also said that Churchill wrote something on a napkin in 1944. it resulted in 45 years of Soviet occupation of Eastern Europe. so not all "napkin ideas" are as fruitful as this one :D
Went on a plane at the airshow, forgot I was afraid of heights until we passed the tree's, then learned there was nothing to hold on to in a C-47. Calmed down after a moment though
Thank you for that spot. As you said, the first time in Prague most probably is not the "right" time, but every visit from the second one on. Is the place included in the 1 day and 3 day passes?
Wouldn't it be ironic if this video made the Doubravka structure popular enough to start charging 10 euro and surrounded by currency exchange scammers?
You will spend the same 10 evro for road to this tower and also spend your time. So the best tower in Prague is Petershin wich is in the center of city and has the most beauty views
I'm coming to Prague on the 17th of July for 5 nights. Planning to visit this tower also, thanks for the video I didn't know this existed 🎉. Any good free beaches of swimming spots you could recommend please?
Who needs expensive lookout towers when you have a neck like an owl? I'll just keep rotating my head like crazy while watching this video for the full Prague experience!
Hey HONEST GUIDE what about making a video about the under the radar sites that most people miss on the west side of the city towards the airport you got the white mountain which was the site of a battle in 1620 and there is even a small monument on the hill, about 2 km away you got the trabant museum
4:30 making heat out of garbage is cool but it's not "recycling", when you burn you can't reuse them, so yeah it should be a last solution for unrecyclable garbages....
If the heat was just wasted to air then it wouldn't be recycling. But its used to produce warm water and electricity so you are kinda recycling it :) I hope they would do the tour there as its more complex than just simple "Burn it all" :D
@@RadanValenta Yeah but it's not really the definition of recycling, the "cycle" part in the word imply that it can be done multiple times like glass can be recycled many times, metals, paper a bit, etc.... that's the real "recycling", burning to get energy in return is still a destruction of the raw materials in question, so yeah it's still a way to put to good use these trashes but not an actual real recycling 😊
Multi-layered subway lines in a single station are pretty much the norm in London - but they are ugly. Its just a case of layers of tight tunnels dug into the ground stacked on one another.
@@max2themax gotcha, I just can't believe it's even safe for longer then a week. I'm used to seeing 2x4s nailed together half fast in Canada😂 I have to remember that there are other options like structural screws and such
ok but why didn't you tell me this a year ago >:( tho the 10 euro tower was also kinda cool i guess... the worst part was standing in line for quite some time
Beautifully designed structures, but wood? They're awfully suceptible to fire. This tower looks a bit scary to climb, especially if the staircase isn't bolted down at the base! I'll stick with the climb up the observation tower on Petřin Hill. The funicular ride up the hill is nice, and there's a well-preserved merry-go-round for the kiddies as well as an astronomical observatory on the grounds.

Regarding the fear of heights. It's not the height or the fall that will kill or injure you, rather it is the sudden stop at the end.
I'd call it fear of falling. I can be 1000ft in the air and feel safe and be fine, but on that tower I'd be crawling by the tenth step
one of the astronauts recently said something like:
"When I was up there on EVA, I suddenly realized that i am not afraid of heights, but the gravity"

I always used to call that station rajčata zahrada. 😂
I don't think it's a coincidence. In Austria, tomatoes are called "Paradeiser", which is also related to paradise.

Well done Janek and Honza, again a nice episode. I miss you two.
I would be interested in a video about flea markets in and around Prague.
i have been there and the structure is absolutely amazing! i probably spent more time just admiring how its built:)
Recycled and reused is an interesting way to say "burned" 😅 but would be interesting to see a tour still
Yeah. I am not sure if it can be considered recycling but it is definitely not reused. Reusing means using the "trash" in its original form for the same thing again or finding another use for it.
I think if there is energy coming on the other way and it hasn't been burned for nothing, it still has been "recycled".
Burned, but still is the energy from it without massive transportation cost. More useful, than shipping garbage to China where is burned 95% our plastics.
I would also be interested in learning more about the trash to energy plant, but I am an engineer so I find that stuff fascinating.
"Oh darn there's a storm coming OH WELL TIME TO GET DOWN OFF THE TOWER!" :D
Thanks for pushing past your fear of heights to do this video. :)
Janek, thank you for this recommendation! It’s a cool hangout spot.
Yes please, more videos from the outskirts

Will be there next month, added to my list. Thanks!
I knew that I recognized his style from the Jára Cimrman tower! :D
The view of the Old Town is definitely better from the Petřín Tower.
But the hall of mirrors next to the Petřín Tower is not worth a single crown.

As a fellow acrophobe ... I appreciate it ... looking that comfortable up there must have been SO hard
I had a dream tonight that I stopped scammers and showed people your channel, so proud of myself 🥴
The fact that bit of wood you were sitting on, in one of the legs was broken and split doesn’t fill me other confidence that it’s safe to climb.

quick question, though probably the answer is yes anyway 😄 can you take the train with your Litacka or you need a special ticket? Diky moc.✌

3:10 you feel like you going to jump??? hehehehehe
It may be free but the one that costs 10 bucks is on top of a friggin mountain. You get a WAY better view so it's worth paying the bucks anyway.
How the hell I NEVER heard about this???
This goes on my list "Prague must to go".
