- In June 1812, thirty six years after the Declaration of Independence, the United States of America declared war on Britain and invaded its colony of Upper Canada. Across the Atlantic, Britain was already in a life and death struggle with Napoleon in Europe. Upper Canada was poorly defended and vulnerable to attack. President Thomas Jefferson declared that victory would be a 'mere matter of marching;. But this isn't what happened.

The Mercans got their butts kicked.
But but these days Canada can’t even take on our Salvation Army 😂. lol!
@@allen480 They were there when Britain and the free world needed them - within days, NOT years.
@@jp-um2fr Some Americans crossed the border to join the Canadians and there was no free world the Europeans were at war with themselves.
@@allen480 Leave them alone they don't need to that is our job we take care of each other. The fact is if one falls we all fall even Mexico.
@@castlerock58 didn't get their buts kicked. American historians call it a stalemate. Britain calls it a side note. The only nation that calls it a major conflict that they won is Canada...and the people around the world fond of the idea America lost at something. But by all accounts neither side could get a decisive victory over the other side, which is the case when someone gets their butt kicked.
And yet there are still Americans that believe that they somehow won the war of 1812
We did win

The first battle of the war wasn't the battle of Detroit But the battle of Mackinaw Island
Agroup of British Regulars ,Canadian Malitia, Indians, andMetis from St Joseph Island by the Soo
The Canadians took Fort Mackinaw without firing g a shot
The Americans on the island weren't told that Americans were at war with Britian
You keep mentioning that many Upper Canadians were born in the present USA. The United Empire Loyalists had fled those 13 provinces of British America "in rebellion". The Loyalists were just that loyal to the crown even if they had been born in British America.

I don't know how you can call that an accident
Then somebody deliberately set it off knowing they would blow themselves up. Which is the most likely?
