Yes please. I’ve watched a few and they seem to be aimed at people who are use to pc gaming. I never played a pc nor install one I’ve only own a console but I plan on buying a Steam deck but for the most part to play verified and playable games but I recently found out about launchers even for the game that are verified and now i feel lost in the sauce. Oh yeah by the way my computer skills are basically nonexistent.

the remote play together is probably a hidden gem of the deck. I bought the ninja turtles game and was playing it with my wife. I had the deck docked to my TV was a good time. My wife was talking to her sister via discord and was telling her how great the game was and she should get it so we can play. I was like well actually this game supports remote play together so if she wants to play with us she justs needs to get on steam.... Then 2 more of her friends come on discord and we were just like hey get on steam. I invited them all into the game and we were doing 5 player Ninja Turtles, was a good time. It did take 5 minutes of tinkering as the sister came in and the resolution was off but I got it figured out and was just great.

Sometimes when you return to a game from sleep, from the steammenu, or the quick access menu, the controls can stop responding. I don't know what causes this, but it can often be remedied by entering the steam menu and leaving the menu again. I've also had this happen sometimes on first launches of the game, so if you're just going through the games you own and something does not respond, you might want to give it a second launch attempt.
There are also some games where you're expected to type in to a text field, but the virtual keyboard does nothing. Sometimes it might be required to activate the field with the touchscreen or mouse for the game to understand that the text field is active.
And you can access the mouse in gamemode and in games by holding the steam button and controlling on the right touchpad, without needing to set up a mouse separately for the game. This can in some games be used to interact with menus or inventories much better than what the gamepad controls would normally allow.

When your installing you can choose which drive to install it. Go to Steam menu > settings > storage and go to the top of the list where it shows internal or SD card and highlight the one you want to use and hit X.
It places a little star next to the drive and makes it the "default" location so you don't have to spend time moving a game over but instead just install where you want it.

Really strange to me they don't have an easy way to just directly pick the location each time you install a game from your library. With a device that has two "drives" and one has a max of 512 gigs, it should have an option to "always ask".

The remote play together section reminded me of my recent find: The Steam Link. I have a USB-C Hub for connecting USB devices and my ethernet to the Steam. However, I am somewhat lazy when it comes to wanting to disconnect my keyboard and mouse from my Desktop to the hub, plus it can get pretty messy on my desk once everything is hooked up to the deck. Valve provides an application called the Steam Link, which when run on my Desktop will connect to my Steam Deck and basically remote share access the Steam Deck. This has been amazing for me for when I just want to or require the use of a real keyboard and its functions over the virtual keyboard. The added bonus I had was that it provides a duplicate view of the Steam Deck so I can easily be playing on the Steam Deck itself in SteamOS Gaming Mode while capturing the unaltered aspect ratio to OBS for streaming or video recording. Previously, with the hub, if you connect your Steam Deck through HDMI it will turn off the Steam Deck screen and output solely on the connected HDMI device.

Thanks for the tip about pushing the back buttons instead of gripping the sides. I love the grip buttons on the Steam Controller so I was extremely disappointed to discover that the Steam Deck "grip" buttons are so stiff! Game control feels much better now that I started pressing on the buttons. The only major problem left is that my fingers are a bit short so they can barely push on the buttons comfortably. I rectified this by adding pads on the spots where I touch on the back buttons but they keep falling off.
The only memory muscle that I need to change is that I have two back buttons per hand now. I can comfortably use my ring fingers to press jump and sprint on the lower back buttons thanks to the Steam Controller. Now, I need to learn using the top back buttons for crouch and crawl.

For the tapping the screen thing - I’ve found that some times the game launches but isn’t the focused window so button inputs don’t work. Tapping the screen refocuses the application and then works

I feel like the misuse of the back paddles is Valve's fault. Most of the surface of the buttons are on the grip, while only a small sliver is directly on the back. It looks like you're supposed to press into the grip.

Remote Play Together is such an underrated and amazing feature I don't think enough people know about. The fact that people who don't own these games can play it anyway with their friends literally anywhere in the world is just such a nice thing

  • @KuittheGeek
    @KuittheGeek 2 года назад

I believe I have mentioned this before, but the Remote Play Together API is actually available for all games, it just isn't exposed to the client unless that game is flagged as having the functionality. There are a few small apps that can use the exposed API to launch any game with remote play, one is called Remote Play Whatever, and it is a Linux app I have used a few times for unsupported games like Solasta: Crown of the Magister. It likely won't work and integrate with game mode, but I would guess you could still run it in desktop mode, and it would likely work just fine. I don't have my Deck yet, so I can't test it. But it could be an option if you have a game that you could play in a hot seat mode, but that doesn't actually support local co-op, so RPT doesn't get enabled by default or from the Dev.
I have also found RPT to be better for some games than the built in multiplayer, because of poor net code. I love Stick Fight, and it is a lot of fun with friends, but it has horrible net code and constantly desyncs, meaning someone can win when they shouldn't. I run it through RPT and have no issues since the whole game is being run on my system. Remote Play Together is an awesome feature that I feel is underutilized.

Got this one from reddit: When you factory reset your deck it might not keep the proper volume settings, so if it's quieter than usual you would need to switch to desktop mode, check the extend maximum volume box and make sure all the options are set the maximum volume (150%) then switch back to gaming mode and everything should be back to normal

If a game doesn't support Remote Play Together you can run ANY game via Parsec instead... if game support local multiplayer, it will work with Parsec since it's basically remote desktop streaming app but with controller support and low latency. Similarly, you can run Parsec on your desktop and connect from your Deck - either via local network or from completely different location over the internet. I connect home from work during downtime to do some dailies in my MMO that otherwise doesn't work on the Deck. Or during currently unbearable weather, I sit in a different room than my PC - because it's literal sauna, ambient temp reaching well over 40C. Added benefit of using your desktop to do the heavy lifting is that your Deck stays cool and has superb battery life since the only thing you're really doing on it is streaming video... how many movies can you watch online before Deck runs out of juice? This is now your playtime away from the wall socket.

There are questions that none every touched and I am hoping you could do a video on it later. Restore and Backup feature are seldom used or mentioned on Steam but it's one of those features that could significantly help you when moving to a new or different device. I often do this on my PC when I reformat them. Restoring backup games from an external drive is exponentially faster than my download speed. My question is the Steam Deck allows restoring of backup games? If so, can I have it restored using USB C connection? What about a thumb drive that has USB C connector? Can I used that as a source of the backup to restore game into Steam Deck?

Emudeck answers 90% of the questions and handles the updates and quirks provided you keep it up to date and run it roughly once a week. It also preconfigures screen/sound/best performance settings for the deck. Literally takes the fuss out of it.
Emudeck also installs the Steam ROM Manager which creates entries in your Steam library for all your emulation content. It even scrapes all the artwork so it looks legit in Steam. This essentially takes all the 'backend' junk away so you can play your emulated games under Gaming Mode without opening the emulators manually. Amusingly it treats the content as a game on Steam so you can set controllers with Steam Input etc. outside of the emulation options. Plus it keeps track of time in the activity log.
Word of warning: If you put thousands of games on your SD Card. It will take a LONG time to scrape all the artwork for Steam if you choose to do it.
I'm having the time of my life with this machine. I have very specific tastes. I like bullet hell shooters, jrpgs, visual novels plus I emulate old school (MSX/C64 etc). Literally the SD ticks all the boxes. I'm playing some of my fave games in vertical orientation with my Hori Switch Pro Controller. I'm emulating mouse controls with the analog stick and playing Poker Quest. Most of the junk I play is unverified and works so well despite keyboard/mouse only or whatever.
Even typing is fun using the sticks as 'fingers' on the touch screen.
Hope that Bill/Lloyd dip their toe into emulation on the Deck because more folks need to see that side of the Deck.
Think about this: Portable PS2 gaming... In higher res than a real PS2.

Now. If it was any other machine I'd say wait but the Deck is very easy to update the hardware where needed. I can see it having a good shelf life before the inevitable SD2.
The moment you configure a game with Steam Input for the first time in the Deck and literally just play you'll see why folks are raving about it.
Then you'll mess with stuff in Desktop mode and realise the power with portability you have here.
Funny story: All my prior PC's have been potatoes. Could never afford a truly good PC for gaming. Now I'm playing games in a very decent way on the SD. I'm enjoying experiences I'd never thought possible in my lifetime. All I do is play with it connected to a dock as if it was a PC. Wired Controller, wireless mouse/keyboard. Highly likely I'll never use it portably lol.

It depends. If I’m playing with my index fingers on the triggers then I use middle and ring on back paddles. If I’m playing a game with my middle finger on the trigger so my index can hit the bumpers. Then it changes.

I have been going through a ton of Steam Deck videos trying to find out the best way to add games from your Amazon launcher. I have been able to do it by installing the game on a pc and then transferring the game file including the .exe file, but it can be a real pain especially when trying to get controller support. Has anyone come across a video that will help me out?

1:43 Ever since I got my deck I was expecting it to be really uncomfortable to use the grip buttons. Yet it was perfectly fine, so I thought maybe it's just my hand size. My friends hands are smaller yet it worked perfectly for him too, so what the hell? Then I watched this clip and realized that maybe people need a little bit more creative thought in their life (≧▽≦).
