- World B. Free shows that there's more to him than a nonstop gunner. Free's creativity manifests itself in spectacular dishes after drives to the basket (six of his eight assists resulted in layups or dunks after him attacking the rim) as he has an all-around game on offense. During the second half Al Attles even went on to mostly rely on Free as his point guard in the place of the always steady John Lucas. November 27, 1980.

By the way, the reason Magic was out of this game was because he tore his ACL after landing on the foot of an opponent on the Hawks earlier that month (Nov). He missed most of the 80/81 season, obviously.
wrong. He had a broken foot, not acl. An acl back then was career ending
Miguel Amaral NOT wrong. Magic suffered a partially torn ACL on 11/11/80 at ATL when he got tangled up with a Hawks player named Tom Burleson. You're thinking of Michael Jordan, who broke his foot (at GS, btw) early in his 2nd season.
ACL injury in those days was debilitating and could severely impact a player's future, but there were players who returned from ACL tears back then. You're talking to the one person on YT who has video (up) of Mitch Kupchak tearing his ACL on 12/19/81 at SDC. He came back in 4 years, but he did come back. The severity of the injury is key. It was key then and it still is. Not all ACL injuries are equally destructive.
I think it was a meniscus tear in the knee that he suffered from.

I think you’re thinking 79-80. Free was with the Warriors for the 80-81 season. This was my first year being interested in NBA basketball. That team had a lot of talent.
