The 1997 - 1999 era of Metallica were absolutely unstoppable in sound. Seattle 89 may have the energy. But man, 90s Metallica just sound so refined. It's like when they tuned to Eb they learned they could just go ALL OUT.
I would say the whole show was beast mode....i was teenager when i saw this and i took it for granted, i wasnt even impressed that much at the time....the new metal era was at its peak this time. To this day i know they give it all at the stage, but my idols are older now....i hate time!
Obviously Metallica were at their best from 85-93 but I really like the 98-99-00 shows they did. They were on point. Kirk was really fluid in his solos, and creative.
Anthony Avila yeah, you're right. Sorry. I've been listening to the 13 year old, high school kid playing simple 'rock' rhythms badly whilst he sits back and smugly grins knowing that he'll never be fired from his shit band that could literally release any old pile of horseshit and deluded fans will say it's groundbreaking music. No, wait.... that's definitely Lars Ulrich.
Probably one of the last times we saw peak Lars---you can hear his double bass, mostly clean, consistently strong, and he's not overdoing it with the improvised fills or wildly fluctuating tempos. As always, Jason's bass is massive, and you can see how much more accurate Kirk was in those days.
This is the best cover song they did by far. They did KILLING JOKE proud. Fucking bad ass. Makes me want to do full sprint flips of stages again(if my fat old ass could still do that! lol).
If you check out more recent live versions by KJ, you'll discover that Metallica's version here sounds more like easy listening lounge music by comparison. ruclips.net/video/gn8N9RbcKjU/видео.html Youth & Geordie making more noise with ONE guitar and a bass than this frontline does with two and a bass
It was really hard to get tickets, was resigned to watching on MTV (this was still when they played actual music) ….later was able to get a vid of this whole concert on a VHS tape from a record shop in Brooklyn and the whole set looked incredible
impossible to find all the tracks, they do not exist (maybe they are, but they are not available to us) there is only 8 songs, it makes no sense to look for other
Yeah, you are right, sorry. Actually I wanted to make an audio upgrade for this show(partial) a few months ago and I downloaded all the available tracks for this show and they were split in 2 or 3 singles from 98-99, but Ron didn't allow me to release it, so I scrapped it. I still have a video uploaded as a sample of 3 songs, though.
For the recorded versions I actually prefer the Killing Joke version a bit more but this is the best live version I have heard of this song by either band.
One of the greatest anger-management sessions Mr. Ulrich ever had. Simply astonishing.
very well put lol

Wow..Lars and Jason headbanging, in unison, at 3:29!
James and Jason
That’s how they keep time with each other. How do you think they were so tight of a rhythm section?
@@kdxtreme7479 both are but more with Lars if you keep a close eye
Lars was AWESOME in this!
Peter u right fam Ty
Yeah u right Peter

I can't say for sure, but in some ways I think Kirk did better in the late 90's than ever before or ever again
I agree
i hope lars would play the drums like this again.
what? shit? he's still doing that
whats is he doing? you saw the Germany performance of the Wait? hahahaah
Ben lol you must be listening to the wrong drummer.
Anthony Avila yeah, you're right. Sorry. Honestly, the Lars Ulrich here is still off time, but his double bass is more solid than compared to him now.
WTF? This is an amazing rendition of the track!! Lar's double bass is sick as fuck!! Damn!🤘🤘🤘
Yeah it is
that double bass
Absolutely god tier
He really kicked ass here. My mom said, watching this concert with me on video: "This guy will never be fat:D"
One of the best Metallica concerts ever. I watchedit a million times. Looooove it. The Cover Masters kick ass.

Seattle 1989 quits the chat
@@goyda357 Seattle 1989 is why I wrote one of the best and not the best😆
Shame that they dont playing covers now. They play whiskey but cmon there are a lot better covers than whiskey

1:24 You can hear that magical Lars Ulrich double bass :D
It’s fucking epic man
Holy Fuck Lars :D
Fuck yes dude!
lars best drumming era 1988 - 2001
Jorge Sanchez in 1985 his drumming was begining to get super fast
This is the best cover song they did by far. They did KILLING JOKE proud. Fucking bad ass. Makes me want to do full sprint flips of stages again(if my fat old ass could still do that! lol).

Holy shit, Lars doesn't sound like he's beating on garbage cans!
Haha right! :);)
Back in the days they really kicked ass!
greets from Poland!
The original will always be rawer, harder amd better.
Hell yes! This lame cover here doesn't rate...
Totally agree.
Jason is great!
I cant believe this was over 20 years ago! Fucking hell life passes quickly
sound heavy amaizing why why Jason left!!!!!!!
I was at this concert

Killing Joke cover!
Was at this show Tuesday Nov 24 1998 it cost $28 not bad
This video gets me so pumped!
3:29 FUUUUUCK
RIP Geordie Walker from Killing Joke, the originator of this awesome song.
Nobody played the guitar like Geordie Walker. I don't think KJ can be the same without him.
Epic in the name of tharsh !
Metallica+killing Joke...insuperable
This is so badass! Great!! Jason is beast.. Lars did great Job 👍
I was looking for this performance. Just killer.
Man this is awesome
KJ are the masters, watch them do this at Shepards Bush 05 on YT then compare.
lars actually brought the heat
Awesome upload 🤘🏻
Thxx musa great video again.Lars's double bass is awesomeee
NOT BAD JAMES STILL HAD HIS VOICE AND LARS COULD USE A DOUBLE BASS
Ive seen metallica for what 25- 30 yrs. now and they always take stage in the same position every time.

Metallica,James,I love you!!!
Thanks very much for this, man!! Fucking killer video!

Shame we have only half of the show in this audio quality! :(
Metallica reminds me of a perfectly tuned American V8 engine..so fucking awesome.
They destroyed a classic here killing joke are far better
@@andypandy5613 hahah
3:18 That double bass after the first solo .. FUCK !!!!!!!
holy shit
Please be 100% sure before you speak
At single Turn the Page version this show November 13, 1997 at The Ministry of Sound, London, England
it came out as a single Whiskey in the Jar, I think only for Germany, I have never seen it on the net
Fucking awesome
Man, at 3:29 that was awesome. Good stuff.
pretty cool song
Justice for Jason happened here. Likely only cuz lars liked the way his double sounded.
Probably half this crowed had no clue this a killing joke song 🤔
Ah the 90's...
here they still understood that - "the slower the heavier" !
En ese momento Para Ulrich era el mejor baterista de esa época, finales de los noventas, y principios de los 2000's
Some people would argue but I agree
que temazo la concha de la lora
Sape
fucking great😈😈😈
lars shit bro, u hit really hard
Lars on spot with that double
Killing Joke
Fuck YEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHH
one two three four hey hey hey hey hey hey

BAD ASS SONG ALSO LIKE
Small hours
i know, Krzych did update two years ago, but I do not have this release
Beer break for lars after that
Wasn`t it part of one of the twelveahalf "Whiskey"-singles?
Lars was always the man he just phones it in now
Btw the track isn't rare, it's on the Turn the Page single.
another version is on there
I am still waiting?)???
That fake crowd noise. Drives me nuts.
They was fuckin killer!

Killing joke song
best to just see KJ instead
KILLING JOKE original!!!
Killing Joke 1987
+slljarvis 87? I don't think so
1981 i guess
Lars playing his ass off!
Maybe the influence of drugs gave them a boost..?
уХ - зАдорНо!
The sound is good, but the vocals are far short of Mr Coleman.
Es mejor bajista Jason que Robert
complete opposite of polishing a turd
People are upset Metallica just dominated this song over Killing Joke.
Nobody can't dominated Killing Joke but i admit the song kick asses :)
One of those cool moments where both versions are simply great (to me anyway).
People are upset cuz Metallica dominates everything they touch!!!! simple as that!
Opinions vary.....Metallica good at Metallica songs but this is LAME compared to the original....
Chris McGourty I hope you know killing joke stole the riff for eighties from the Damned's "Life Goes on"
You had better vomer yeer attz seiruoutioutzly HOOLZ!!!
20 fucking years ago ....just sayin
Not as good as Killing Joke's.
Geordie would eat these guys for breakfast
Way better imo.
Nothing compared with the original though...KILLING JOKE
For the recorded versions I actually prefer the Killing Joke version a bit more but this is the best live version I have heard of this song by either band.
