Who did make the FIRST METAL DRIVER? And when?

A follow up to the Donaldson video and their Donaldson Duralowood driver and woods. Did they have a threaded shaft?
And who did make the first metal driver?

Thanks Steve, A pity that he driver has got such a short shaft, but I suppose without that I wouldn't have been sure if the shaft could be changed!
I'll have to feature it on the course at some point.

The first patents for alloy headed woods were produced in the same year - 1894 - by Brougham and Braddell but "Mills" patent in 1895 popularised them and cornered the market for the next 40 years.

Excellent research and very enlightening detail, I had a Mills putter for a year or so when I was a junior. Probably binned it like all the other vintage clubs I wish I'd kept.

I wish they would ban 460cc drivers and limit them to 300cc.........Mainly be4cause I can't swing a brush head sized diver .
I'm still using a 9,5deg taylormade steel 200 275cc............ and they are getting hard to find :D

Agreed, they let the cat out of the bag when they set it at 460cc.
Unfortunately there's no way that the average golfer would even think about going back now, especially as a generation have grown up knowing nothing else.

I think 300cc drivers would solve a lot of the problems with “distance” they are complaining about today
