It's a combination of 3 types of dal..
Learn it properly from any vendor in Ludhiana, Punjab.. daily staple food plus national food of Ludhiana..
Please don't mind.. but don't misguide viewers here.. first learn yourself properly then teach others

I FOLLOW YOU RELIGIOUSLY BUT THE TRICK I LEARNT FROM SOMEONE IS THAT WHEN YOU PRESSURE COOK ANY LENTIL, ADD A TEA SPOON OF OIL. DURING WHISTLES, THE WATER WILL NOT COME OUT FROM THE TOP.

I too have experimented in a myriad ways. But, the simplest and most authentic preparation is the one as told by you bcoz too much and too many masalas spoil the natural taste and turn it unpalatable and astringent.
