Great video Sir! I do hope Valve consider adding the motion control PS3 mode to the Switch version. Oh, Portal: Still Alive on the Xbox 360 was a seperate release from The Orange Box, and had a bunch of exclusive levels that still havn't appeared on anything else yet. Also, The Dreamcast Half-Life was meant to come with a second disc containing the multiplayer modes, it's still never been released and is considered lost media now! aaannnddd Gina Cross is also the holograph in the tutorial levels of Half-Life.
Fortunately the still alive exclusive levels have been ported to PC numerous times by fans, one reason example I can think of is the portal quality of life Update mod which adds the still alive Chambers into the main campaign through an optional door at the start of the escape sequence after you portal over the fire pit. They're really fun test Chambers and it was really awesome to play through some new (to me) official Portal 1 content. There's even a hard light bridges in it which surprised me
@@pauljakeman Yup, They're actually designed by the people who made that 2D Flash portal game, but Valve liked them so much, they added them into the Xbox version.
Portal: Still Alive is also another version of Portal for the Xbox 360 which adds a new level pack. These are levels from The Flash Game Mappack but altered to work better with a controller.
Fun facts about the flash versiob mappack It actually has a custom made glados mech bossfight. It also had light bridges and laser fields before portal 2 did

i still have the L4D2 demo on my 360, i remember playing it online back in the day and some people showing me the glitch where you could climb in top of the buildings. the 360 demo is the only version of the game where that glitch exists.
I had all these games on PC back in the day so I never bothered with the console ports. I must admit HL on PS2 always grabbed my interest though. Also TF2 frozen in time on the Orange Box is also interesting.
CSGO on console is frozen in time as well and predates any skins. It even predates the silencer on the M4 and got all the maps in their original form. It does have Gungame though.
You can get a 2008 PC version of TF2 from the internet. A few years ago when this was actively being distributed people were also hosting servers for it
That TF2 is the most vanilla you could probably get. I don't think 2Fort can get too old for me. I still have my Orange Box for PC from when I bought it at GameStop.
@@theshinken not just the silencer, the whole gun M4A1 is missing because it is a new weapon update to the game. Similar to the CZ, Revolver, and the newest one MP5. I expected this to be a funnier video but absolutely learned something just in the first 5 minutes, and now it's got me thinking: that motion controlled puzzle pack for Portal 2 would work awfully similarly to how the motion controls in breath of the wild work using the joy-con or pro controller. I wonder if they'll somehow make it into the switchport?
lol I must be one of the 4 people in the world with that DLC, still hoping for it to work in a vr port, was such a fun way to play. My whole steam account was actually made inside portal2 with that "psn_" username
I played tf2 on the 360 constantly back in the day, and the funny thing is that the community has a full modding scene, I'm in a discord server with a bunch of the players who hosted modded lobbies back in the day.
Me and my friends spent Countless hours on The Orange Box version of TF2 on the 360. Words can't describe how much we loved it, we'd literally play Every public lobby together, try to hunt for modded lobbies that let you use voice commands (Because you can't use the voice commands in TF2 on the 360 by default, but people would be able to mod them back in, and give the option back to you), and most of the time, the three of us would literally just make a private 2Fort lobby, and just hang out, roleplay, anything. We literally played TF2 on the 360 as a social MMO basically LMFAO. Man what I wouldn't give to go back, I miss those days. We played so damn much from 2013 to around 2015 or so. Good times ♥
I like the fall from CS on the original Xbox "We have several EXCLUSIVE maps only available on our console" to Left 4 Dead 2 on the 360 "We are charging you for DLC that isn't exclusive to this console and is free everywhere else"
I played tonnes of launch-day TF2... I think I had 180 hours before the first major content update. It's really nostalgic seeing that version again. I'm sure modern TF2 is objectively better but I loved this so much.
My family's first ps3 came with the Orange Box. I spent many hours in tf2 and portal and it definitely had a large impact on my perception of multiplayer shooters at the time.
I think I remember hearing something about CSGO having implemented crossplay on PS3 but it broke/was axed as soon as the PC version started receiving updates which I imagine happened rather quickly. I'm probably completely off here but it could be worth looking into.
I remember being super excited for the PS3-Steam cross-platform experimentation because my naive high-school mind thought that it'd be a precedent that'd be carried on going forward, and that I'd be able to play with my console friends in more games RIP to that
So with Portal 1 & 2 finally coming to the Switch, this means that there's a chance we may see other Source games like Half-Life 2 and its expansions, Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 and maybe Team Fortress 2 onto it as well. Or just add The Orange Box to make it easier for a bundle
My introduction to valve was Half-Life on PS2, I was looking for a game to play over 4th of July weekend in 2010, and bought a copy of it for 11.99. At the time I knew nothing about it and just went for it, and that had to have been one of the best weekends of the summer playing through the game.
I really wonder why they didn't include the PSMove/Hydra levels to the Switch, the Joycons should be able to do it, if the scale thing is too hard to do with the sensers, use the infra red camera, like, doing the scale thing by moving the IR senser closer or further away from something, everyone has walls, a table, or, you know, the other Joycon.
Fun fact, CS:GO was originally supposed to be an updated port of CS:S to console, which was than expanded into a full new game and than ported to PC, which is why it still has the weird menu wheel even on PC.
Wow, that PS3 Portal 2 DLC is mindblowing, I’ve never seen anything like that. I never would’ve guessed it existed at all! I’ve never heard of it despite being aware of the PS2 version. It’s a shame the PC port of the DLC is such lost media and the controller required for it is basically lost too, I’m glad the PS3 version preserves it even if it’s probably inferior and runs at 720p. I definitely need to find a way to play it someday!
If anyone wants to experience an HD version of the original Half-Life the fan game that is available to purchase ON STEAM (because holy cow Valve is really willing to work with fans) called Black Mesa is REALLY good
Now I really want the switch version of portal to have those extra levels from the ps3 version. The switch controllers could likely allow for that sort of movement with twisting the portals and such.
You forgot to include the Arena game mode that was available with a pre order of the orange box on console. Basically like a single life game mode. Also available on PC but never took off
Replayed the Orange Box on Series X. The 4k enhancement goes a long way in making these games playable by modern standards. Other than some ui changes it's exactly how you'd imagine a modern console port of HL2 would be like!
The orange box on the xbox 360 was how I found out half life 2, I played it for so many hours, while also repeating sections trying to get out of the map and stuff and try out cool bugs i found out myself.
Not sure if you talked about this in the video but there is a way to unlock the 30FPS limit on all singleplayer Orange Box Xbox 360 games. You need to save the games to a USB flash drive and use a save modding program called Horizon to automatically execute console commands such as “fps_max 120”
i spent over 7 years on the OrangeBox on PS3. Yes, PS3. After my console fried, i switched to PC but i still bring that collection very near to my heart
In the Sierra 2001 miniature catalogues that was included inside the physical big-box copies of Sierra's PC games, it advertises the Dreamcast edition of Half-Life before its release that never came to be. Even now, it saddens me that it never reached public official release on the Dreamcast, however you can technically get the leaked copy of it to work via a GDEMU mod but one save takes up an entire VMU memory card.
I think there are Fan Made ports of that HL1 PS2 stuff that adds everything from the console to the PC version, also this is a pretty well made video British Ryan Gosling.
I remember going crazy for portal and got The orange box for 360. Then i played TF2 because why not, and then i got hooked. Then i heard about more support on PC and the whole mod thing and jumped to PC. Everything took a turn from there. Funny though, my first half life experience was on the OG Xbox. That controller (S version) brings some weird but interesting memories, alongside halo 2.
As someone who absolutely loves Portal 2, I had no idea about those exclusive PlayStation Move levels. The controls seem great too as they’re a bit iffy on Xbox 360 to perfectly line up your portals. Such an interesting thing,
The playstation move was so bizzare because on one hand it felt like no one cared about it and it felt abandoned. But on the other hand it got a bizzare amount of third party support with games like bioshock infinite, portal 2 and most strangely heavy rain. You could play a surprising amount of games with the playstation move and that's what I did.
11:46 Miami is actually *partially exclusive. This map exists in the PC version of Condition Zero: Deleted Scenes as a campaign mission in a slightly altered form. Source: I'm one of 3 people who've played through the entirety of Deleted Scenes.

When I worked at Game Informer Magazine, I reviewed PS2 Half-Life with Editor in Chief Andy McNamara. We had fun with co-op campaign. Such a novel thing back then - still is now, I guess.
I had played half life and CS on a friend's computer way back in the day. It wasn't until I got the orange box that i fell in love with valve. Especially Portal.
Aweesome video! thanks for sharing the knowledge of valve console ports. I only learned today of those motion control ports for portal and counterstrike :o
They’re really cashing in on Jon. They’re making him the sex appeal of the channel.😆 (thought it’d be seen as a joke). (Should’ve put the emoji when I wanted to.)
Theres actually a mod that allows you to use SteamVR to play the Portal 2 Motion DLC, in fact there are 2 different Motion DLC’s for Portal 2 on PC, being the Sixense Motion Pack and the Perceptual Pack. While they both have *mostly* the same levels, one actually contains a set of Co-op exclusive puzzles. Now despite the Motion Pack being impossible to get on Steam now, there are archives of it around the internet. They are both absolutely worth playing if you have PCVR from my experience.
If Portal 2 hadn't released on ps3 then I wouldn't have ever made a steam account, and I wouldn't have considered getting the Orange Box to play Portal, and I never would have played HL2.
The switch ports of portal are probably happening because of that Nvidia Shield version, having some of the work done already. Notably isn't coming to PS4 which doesn't have any of those games, probably so they didn't have to spend money on upscaling to 4K.
You are actually the first person I’ve seen get the story right with the HD models being from Dreamcast and acknowledging the PS2 has a unique set of models
I loved Portal 2 on the PS3 and its In Motion dlc. I never got to use the Steam features since I didn't bother to make a Steam account until late 2015, and I think they cut support around that time. Split-screen Co-op was a blast with my brother, though.
I never knew that you weren't able to update games with content on the ps3, out of everything to take away from this video thats the most interesting to me
You failed the mention the greatest thing about the PS2 release: cheat codes! Not that cool alone, but except the game let you set any button to a cheat code toggle in the fully featured button/action allocation settings menu. Still not that impressive? The game gives you one free cheat code at the start: slow motion. Combine it with the cheatcode toggle hotkey and Halflife PS2 essentially has a bullet time mode built in.

I had played half life and CS on a friend's computer way back in the day. It wasn't until I got the orange box that i fell in love with valve. Especially Portal.
Your drip in this video is so dope
PS3 Portal 2 was my first game above a 7 rating, and I really couldn’t have gotten a better game man. Best game ever made
Aweesome video! thanks for sharing the knowledge of valve console ports. I only learned today of those motion control ports for portal and counterstrike :o
They’re really cashing in on Jon. They’re making him the sex appeal of the channel.😆 (thought it’d be seen as a joke). (Should’ve put the emoji when I wanted to.)
Isn't he the owner of the channel?
He created this as his personal channel before giving it to GVG
@@jonathand.4088 ohk, thanks
Kind of want to get the Portal collection when it comes out on Switch.
This guys voice can span 4 octaves in 1 sentence
If Portal 2 hadn't released on ps3 then I wouldn't have ever made a steam account, and I wouldn't have considered getting the Orange Box to play Portal, and I never would have played HL2.
The switch ports of portal are probably happening because of that Nvidia Shield version, having some of the work done already. Notably isn't coming to PS4 which doesn't have any of those games, probably so they didn't have to spend money on upscaling to 4K.
Sora at the end of Kingdom Hearts 2: Jon I looked for you. I looked everywhere for you!
I remember half life on PlayStation. And you know what? I've loved valve games ever since ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are actually the first person I’ve seen get the story right with the HD models being from Dreamcast and acknowledging the PS2 has a unique set of models
There's actually a TF2 Xbox 360 discord for setting up games. Which I think is just great, nice to see people keeping a game they love alive.
I’ve really been enjoying these Jon videos, they’re very fascinating.
I loved Portal 2 on the PS3 and its In Motion dlc. I never got to use the Steam features since I didn't bother to make a Steam account until late 2015, and I think they cut support around that time. Split-screen Co-op was a blast with my brother, though.
20:02 you didn't pick a bad time a server browser glitch was introduced in 2019 that doesn't effect all players for some reason
I never knew that you weren't able to update games with content on the ps3, out of everything to take away from this video thats the most interesting to me
20:48 YOU ENDED IT ON A PUN YOU MAD LAD
You failed the mention the greatest thing about the PS2 release: cheat codes! Not that cool alone, but except the game let you set any button to a cheat code toggle in the fully featured button/action allocation settings menu. Still not that impressive? The game gives you one free cheat code at the start: slow motion. Combine it with the cheatcode toggle hotkey and Halflife PS2 essentially has a bullet time mode built in.
So glad Jon now has a space to talk about any games he wants; Nintendo or not
I had a PS3, PS Move controls, and the PS3 version of Portal but I never knew about the motion controls or DLC.
wait a second... valve used to make actual video games??? what a wild world that was geez
GV Gaming sounds like the British Text to Speech, omg
