I have a 13ft. 2016 Qwest w/ a 30HP Mercury 4 stroke. I put a 24" wide port side gate in to accommodate my wife getting on with her roller. Plan to make a ramp or have one fabricated locally to make boarding easier for her.
Perfect little pontoon boat for getting around to different lakes on a trailer if you travel much, and a great stable platform for you and your wife to enjoy versus a smaller fishing boat that's hard to board and less stable. I really hope to build a boat in the future that features a wheelchair ramp or other boarding assistance. I love the challenge of engineering and fabricating that sort of thing...while still making it look like a beautiful new boat.
At one point I wasn’t so sure about it, but after installing tons of them I am a huge fan of working on them and how many options and gadgets you can install on them!
We haven't done a project like that yet...in fact, it seems like most of our customers are looking to change their fishing style and center console pontoons to more traditional cruising and entertaining layouts. We will certainly share a video if we do a project like you're talking about. Thanks for watching!
Another great video Tom- Being from Kentucky and living right between two great recreation lakes, Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow, we have more than our fair share of Pontoons of all types. I have found your videos invaluable as to the ideas in my project. This Bennington is very similair to my 1997 Voyager and you actually answered several questions with this video. Again thankyou and keep'em coming. 👍
@@wish2fish I don’t remember where they were from exactly, but they used it on the river a lot. I believe it was where two pretty major rivers came together.
The fuel tank was under the fishing table/livewell in the rear. I don’t remember the exact setup, but I believe it was accessible from outside, if not the fishing table thing unscrewed from the floor. I believe we had to remove the top and that opened up access.
Great video Tom. I forgot to ask you, my party barge has all aluminum flooring, no plywood. The 2004 carpet is worn. I want the vinyl new flooring.. have you ever had to scrap off old carpet on aluminum flooring? I'm guessing it's a pita. Thnx! Love the videos!
Thanks Ben! We need to cover the process of stripping, cleaning, prepping, and installing vinyl on an aluminum deck. It’s tons of time put in to get it ready for proper adhesion of the new vinyl. And you MUST use a solvent based adhesive.
The couple options are to run a “sport toon” for the center where it sits in front of the transom. Otherwise, you could take your transom and center pontoon to a welder and have them integrate the transom into the center toon, and beef things up where needed to support the motor your looking to have installed. Lastly, you could take them the center log and have them fabricate something from scratch. Either way, have them over build it. Better to go too heavy duty than wish you would have down the road.
Nice job - Wow they made a journey to get to you. Love the look of the lean back . I was like wait they just recovered to Vinyl on the counsel seat. But see you just dropped a stand alone in it. Is that a 38 wide?
They sure did! Have a double decker from southern Tennessee that we have to redo and make into a tritoon this winter, so watch out for those videos…should be a fun one! They have the vinyled option lean backs in premium only (luxury comes full vinyl). Definitely a huge upgrade and gives it more of a factory toon look. $370 for the full vinyl option I believe. Yes, that’s a 38” bench in front of the Large Helm…fit in there perfectly! First time we’ve done that, but it was a seat they used a ton when it was the livewell. Tons more storage and a comfy seat!
Nice job! I've been looking at buying an older pontoon to restore but just don't know if it's worth it as far as saving me money especially if i have to replace the motor lol. Is it much of a coast saves to restore one in the long run?
I’m obviously bias towards the restoration process as the best option. Heck, we built our 22’ tritoon with a new 200hp four stroke last summer with material costs at about half of what a comparable new tritoon would cost. I think the big factors are boat length and HP size. A new 25-40hp motor is an affordable option and makes a great boat for cruising. If you want to pull tubes and skis then you should really look to a tritoon. For $15k to $20k someone can make a 20’-22’ boat that looks just as good as new boats…at half the price.
@@tomspontoons yeah I would definitely want to be able to pull a tube. If you wasn't so far from me I would definitely let you build me one! I just may try to get me one and go to work on it. Thanks for the videos and I'm sure I'll have some questions for you lol
@@Bamaoutdoors Hopefully by the time you get into your project we'll have even more items covered to help answer your questions and guide you in the restoration!! Best of luck!
Love the videos. I'm doing the same setup on my pontoon. How did you get the matching rear sun pad? I need that as well. Also any discount codes for to store? Thank you!!!
Thanks!! I buy the seat vinyl from Pontoon Stuff, cut 3/4” plywood as the base, and have a local upholsterer add foam and sew it to make the pad. It’s a pretty cost effective way to get everything to match and look factory. Enter TOMSTOONS at checkout to save 5% on your whole purchase. Hey Tom, Another great video! I'm currently in the process of doing my 20' boat from the cross members up. Can you tell me what thickness and dimensions of the starboard plastic you used for the gauge panel? Thanks in advance and keep the videos coming!
Thanks!! And thanks for watching. I ordered it off Amazon, ABS plastic sheet. It’s 1/8” thick, and came in a 12”x24” sheet, although there are tons of options. Just double check that it’s UV resistant and ideally designed for marine use!!
Great job
Thank you!!
