Last question, do you trim the onion tops ? Does this thicken them ?

@@stubaker6952 no I don’t trim onion tops. I know some folk do but I don’t think it is of any benefit .

Good evening John got a problem with my ailsa Craig onions I planted them in a seed tray in John innes seed compost germinated after 7 days 7 days later there browning off from the tops what should I do many thanks in advance Terry

Hello Terry, the first thing to do is find out why they are turning brown. It could be many things and only you will know. Have you got the correct temperature , not too hot or too cold. Have you over or under watered them. Have they got adequate light. These are all factors in the health of young seedlings. Once you decide the problem if you correct it they should pick up and grow on nicely.
