It's not really 'bold' - literally every Argentine President has said the same thing - a great way to pitch to nationalism and distract the voters.

but he isnt "literally every Argentine President" and the situation generally is getting worse. take Venezuala (no, please, take it....). each nutjob has got progressively more mental. it doesnt need American lunatic neoliberals with "big ideas" to kick off, all it takes is one nutter "following the truth". this part of the world will explode and drag literally EVERYONE into its orbit: colonial past, neoliberal capitalist nutters on the back foot (oil), dictators, Russian socialist connections, poverty and greed. Guyana will be a flash point before the Falklands is.

is not even distraction, Milei does not care at all about the islands.
everyone in the goverment needs to say that the islands are Argentinas because if they dont, they would be judge by treason to the country.
Because that is in the constitution. But no one in the party cares at all about the islands.
Argentina is broke, we already have a lot of free land that we do not use.. why we would need extra land and people that we can not support?
In fact, Diana Mondino (her chancellor minister) was in trouble by saying that we need to respect the people who already live there.
It is a lost cause that politicians never do nothing with that, but all try to accuse others of not being patriotic, even if several people has little to eat in our own territory.

    • @p3rran
      @p3rran 2 месяца назад

@adriannuske you are almost correct. Britain was the first country to discover and land on the islands (claiming the uninhabited islands as theirs). The French then later landed on the other side and were the first to set up a colony.
France eventually gave their side of the islands to Spain as part of an agreement they had between each other. The Spanish then evicted the British islanders off illegally (who had by this time created a colony).
This was during the napoleonic wars and therefore Britain didn't have the means to defend the islands while also dealing with problems in Europe.
Spain had left the islands not long after and when Argentina was officially made a sovereign nation, decided to land and claim the islands for themselves (opportunistically) for a short time.
Britain sorted out their more pressing issues and sailed back to the islands with the intention of removing anyone who was on it, making it rightfully British. It has been ever since.

Not only that but Hong Kong was populated by people of Chinese ethnicity and culture, the Falkland islands are populated by people who are decended from British citizens, engage in British culture and wish to remain British.
Argentina would have to invade and conquer a sovereign people in order to establish their non claim.

    • @abeonthehill166

…..not all of Hong Kong was part of the 99 year to hand the colony back to China however, the “ Chinese whispers” were very clear ……hand it back or China will use crushing military force moreover, China is not a weak Argentina and as the UK used this as an Opium Port to sell this narcotic into China, the Chinese who saw the seizing of this land as “ humiliation” was not going to waste time caring what the British may do if the Chinese just grabbed it back.
The UK could not defeat the Chinese reserve Force of Peking never mind the Full might of the Chinese Army. …….these are facts.
I have zero doubt the Falklands will be a part of Argentina in the next 50 Years as we can no longer defend or afford that irrelevant little piece of a fading Empire .

Not to mention that Britain took notice they had people freezing over there just after the armed conflict. On the other hand, Argentina has some historical anchor that probably are not taught in the UK, Britain wasn't second to get to the islands, but third! after France and Spain, and France surrender their claim to Argentina, later the British left a "plaque" as testimony they were interested in returning to the islands, and so they did... but that's another story. Buddy, Argentina was winning the war. The casualties were higher on the British side and the Brits were struggling to keep the Argentine jets at bay. During the first days of the way, Argentina had the upper hand. And probably would have won had it not been for some poor military decisions by the junta.
Nobody got their arses kicked. In fact, you lot looked pretty weak for a long period of the battle. The UK had to change its military standard operations as a consequence of the poor performance during the Falklands war.
You seem to have absolutely no clue what happened.

I am from Argentina.. everyone in the goverment needs to say that the islands are Argentinas because if they dont, they would be judge by treason to the country.

@@andersbrixserup7718 what pool? I did not say nothing about a pool, I am just saying what is the opinion of the current politic party that has won the elections.
Milei wants to be political ally of all free economies (western countries), I am 100% sure this include England.
As I said, even his chancellor made comments that place her in trouble, even Milei was in trouble when he mention on TV that he admires Margaret Thatcher.
About Argentine opinions.. I did not make a pool, but I am Argentine and from all the people I know.. Almost nobody cares about the islands.
Therefore, do not confuse the position on the Argentine law that prohibits politicians from questioning that the islands are not Argentine and that they also appear on the maps that they teach us in schools (as Argentines) vs the true position and wishes of our citizens. 100% of our citizen wishes are in favor of a better economy. That is the biggest concern.. And a big part of the people knows that our true enemies were our same leaders. Hopefully this will change with the new leaders.

Furthermore, our military government, which had a terrible popular opinion based on the missing people and the economic crisis of the time, decided to recover the islands simply to raise popular opinion about them... but until then no one cared.
Also.. are you trying to trigger a patriotic response from me?
I hate my country. We were mostly slaves of our own politicians over the past 80 years.
Besides.. I don't believe in patriotism either. Several countries on Europe has change flag 50 times and most of those current countries has better quality of life than us. It does not matter your flag in modern times.. just how your own leaders treat you.

@VodkayGatitos There is no evidence Spain discovered the islands and even if they saw them they never landed on or claimed them until 1767. Britain made the first claim.
Argentinas presence on the islands was sporadic and only lasted between 1829 and 1831 and again from 1832 to 1833. Additionally, their settlement was only set up with consent from Britain, and its leader, Luis Vernet, was only on the islands because of the British and was subject to a British consulate. The Argentinians were essentially tenants. Their garrison was removed in 1833 after Vernet mishandled the islands, letting them fall into anarchy, and was appointed governor without permission. Britain restored order, reasserted its authority over that which was originally British in the first place, Vernet left without a single gunshot being fired, and no settlers were expelled.
If the restoration of British rule over the islands is "piracy" then how come the Spanish theft of land from natives and mass implantation of settlers isn't?? Argentina is a nation founded by pirates.
