Dave Hogan was the director - also director of the films Barb Wire and Batman Forever in the 1990s Dave Thomas was the Stylist - there’s a great SAW podcast called a journey through SAW by two Aussie guys who have a whole episode on this video (Ep 66) - well worth a listen
Totally TIMELESS! Possibly her most stunning and sophisticated video to date. A bursting series of Italian Vogue images given life and movement, as Kylie invokes memories of Hollywood's most celebrated Goddesses of the 50s and 60s. Still as current and captivating as it was, more than thirty years ago!
I showed this video to a guy I was dating who hadn't heard any of Kylie's 90s music. I couldn't interpret his expression as he watched and finally asked him what he thought. He turned to me, a bit wide-eyed, and said, "I'm obsessed with this."
Such a banger 35 years later! I love how she took inspiration from 'Hardcore Uproar' for this, and then shes revisited it recently for 'Edge of Saturday Night'.. timeless! :)
I did hear this in a club: Melbourne in 1990 had a BIG club scene. This track was special because it’s melodic structure was sooooo powerful: it stood out especially after 6 solid hours of acid house. For those of us who were there for the music, not the drugs or to get lucky, it was like breath of fresh air.
Kylie was never that big beyond the initial debut album in the mainstream US charts though? I think after the SAW days, she has seen more success in the US club charts though.
“What Do I Have To Do?” is a the masterpiece. Who ever would have thought that including a sample of Sam Kinison ranting like a crazy person on a Kylie single would take it to the next level? Whoever they were, they were a genius. It’s a 10.
Ah, I remember this so well, I was 22, working at a music Magazine in Surry Hills Sydney Australia, the nightclub scene was filmed at a club on Oxford St, called the Freezer. Nights dancing to this at the Exchange, DCM and Taxi Club best years of my life, thanks Kylie ♥️
Gah, how was I 42 years old before I heard this song!? This is the best 80s song I’ve ever heard. It’s the ideal of what this kind of song should be. Yes I know it’s 1990 but you know what I mean 😂
Can't begin to describe the memories this song conjures up. 13 years old. Sharing a bedroom with my brother, playing this cassette single on his hifi, it's so weird, this song makes me think of the aftershave we both got at Christmas way back in 1991
Still one of the most beautiful and stylish music videos of all time IMO. And one of Kylie Minogue's all time best songs (out of a catalog completely full of fantastic tracks). But again, the visuals in this video are just stunning and shows just how gorgeous Kylie really is. And after watching the behind the scenes just a minute ago, it only makes me appreciate even further how difficult it was to make a music video like this in the days before CGI. Also, the men in this video are sooooooo hot. Love you Kylie (here in the US)! You're still the Princess of Pop and a gem ❤
Love it! Us Aussie Kylie fans absolutely go nuts when we hear from her fans in the USA!! The fact that she has only really had two big hits in America, yet she has still amassed a huge US following is true testimony to her pulling power!! Love & Respect from Melbourne, Australia.
You're like your namesake in the Vicar of Dibley! Personally, I couldn't understand Hugo Horton fawning over the big-mouthed Kylie, when he had a MUCH prettier girlfriend, Alice! But this is a great song.
@@battywattywoo Alice is prettier than Kylie ???? To be fair, I am as biased as OP , but still ..... oh, well, no accounting for tastes and all that!! There is one thing I can objectively arhue against, though - your description of Kylie's mouth - does Alice really have perfect teeth and mouth??? Kylie's are a bit weird but they give her smile so much charm and personality, it would be blasphemous, if she ever had them replaced with a set of false teeth like so many Yanks like to do.
@@Danko_Sekulic Yes, I think Alice's smile MUCH nicer than Kylie's! I can see why the Vicar of Dibley folk fawned over Rachel Hunter, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Samantha Fox, though.
@@Danko_Sekulic By the way, why do people get surprised when I admire Alice? Now, If I physically admired Mrs. Letitia Cropley, that would be cause for shock!
@@battywattywoo I am a bit late with the reply, but after having googled Hunter, because I had no idea who that was, I feel that my point about tastes has only been reinforced! To me women of her sort are just meh ..... Pfeiffer was somewhat before my time, but I thought she was quite pretty before she became too skinny.
@@Scripture-Man It's a Mike Stock & Matt Aitken masterpiece, they did the actual song writing and music production. Peter Waterman mostly took care of the business side.
Came to see this Masterpiece after A Second To Midnight video, everything on that video reminds me to this iconic ERA, i can't barely believe that Is been 30 years 😫💓✨🔮🕛!!!!
This is my favourite PWL Kylie song ever. One of Pete Waterman's finest moments this. Thumping beat that races along with multi layered vocals and that sexual video. Just brilliant in the twilight years of Kylie's career with S.A.W
@@allisonday893 By 1990-91 she'd become a very free spirit (probably the Hutchence influence!) and also by 91 PWL knew she'd be on her way the year after so they just let her do what she wnted ! This was her first single to miss the Top 4 - how I don't know!
You can feel music 'leap' here .. like in the background is a hint of Stock, Aitken & Waterman pop sound....but the style, video, club melody ..it's like she leaped 5-10 years in one move, amazing!
Always remember first time i saw this...,me and my mate come back from a club dancing to this !!! next day video came on the chart show uk!!!was in ore !!!!kept rewinding it over and over!!!Ultimate classic
This is what got me obsessed. Up until this point I really didn't think I could love this woman more. Was a fan since neighbours.Than this song came out. She became Goddess status to me. I never looked back.
Whoever devised and directed this video is a genius. Still holds up and looks fresh after thirty years
Can't recall the name but I know they also directed 'Shocked' and I think later 'Finer Feelings'. That last one needs to a check. Might be incorrect.

My all time favourite Kylie vid ❤❤❤
Her best video
One of Stock-Aitken-Watermans finest moments. And one of the tracks from Kylie I keep returning to.
If the video was shown today it would still hold.
Well said. Totally agree.

Totally Timeless indeed
Couldn't agree more.
This is Kylie I miss.
This song was and still is…… pure perfection.
It really is. You cannot hear it and not want to dance. Another timeless Kylie Classic! my Kylieathon moves onto Shocked another of my all time fav's!
It's 2021 - this song was released 30 years ago but the visuals look so beautiful, modern and ICONIC!
1990 was so futuristic
New music videos should take note this video gives me goosebumps I love it
One of the best songs from PWL catalogue. And one of the best from her!

The way her eyes look over on the beat . The styling hair and make up is so perfect to go with a perfect pop song 🎉❤❤

How was this not a huge hit in the US? Love this song.
It wasn't released there.

When you suddenly realise Kylie is stunningly beautiful 😍
I'm 22 and I adore late 80s/early 90s dance music
No one comes close to Kylie. Every video is so different and so good. She's an enigma. So proud she's an Aussie. 💖
