- James Bond made them famous. His bullet proof Aston Martin outfitted with oil slicks, retractable Browning 30 caliber machine guns, laser tire slashers, an ejection seat, missile launcher and more was a “must-have” dream car for boys around the world. When Sean Connery did in his foes -- everyone wanted to be that debonair, worldly man who could afford and handle anything but chose to drive an Aston. No one would have predicted that tractor manufacturer David Brown could transform a bankrupt Aston into a car line that was universally praised as being, “pleasing to the eye, beautifully finished and comfortable with all the performance anyone could want.” His cars became racing legends - challenging Ferraris on the track in the 1950’s and ferrying the upper crust around town. Aston Martin was revived by Ford Motor Company, then let go but is once again a world beating yet refined sports car.

Aston Martin is for me, one of my favourite car brands ever.
If it wasn't for Sean Connery Bond who used the Aston Martin DB5 to take out Goldfinger, then the car company would have gone to the wall for ever in the 60s
DB7 is a very beautiful car. When I saw it back in the 90's, I had no clue what it was. I thought it was a Mazda. It seems I wasn't far off since rear taillights were Mazda, but I digress... It was a very beautiful car. Spot on proportions, tasteful, not really look-at me screaming, but just beautiful.
My dad's cousin had one.
DB5. The best Aston. Newer models hold zero candles to the classic beauty
They skipped over the DB5, thats crazy..!!
Next time. Only so much time to tell a story.
Jiggga baby!!
What is it about tractor manufacturers and performance sports cars?
Business *AND* pleasure!
MY favorite story about Aston is he was pestered by a rich friend to sell him a car at cost , so he did , and it was way more than list
Italian body with a English heart. Sounds like my perfect woman👌
From an engineering and drivers point of view, you know it's all gone a bit soft when you are faced with a non manual gear box.
All these so-called pros just don't get it
Thanks for the brand review. It brought out some new hidden details and important historical facts and I'm glad it steered away from the obvious well known Bond facts and features
Everybody is lamenting the exclusion of the DB5 but in all reality it was the DB7 which sold more as a single model than Aston Martins total prior production.
The new Aston Martins are beautiful cars and performance to match. But the best Aston Martins were built in the 50s & 60s before Ralph Nader, Oil Embargo of 1973-1974, and government regulations.
Car makers had a lot more freedom back then.
I was very surprised the left James Bond out of the picture.
Totally missed the DB5 (Bond's Goldfinger car), brief mention of the DB6, 6" longer and heavier. And no mention of the DBS V8 of the late 70' through the 80's or the Lagonda 4dr sedans 76 - 87 ?? Guess they ran into the 25 minute maximum for shows like this.
It is hard to fit it all in, in 25 minutes.
@@KingRoseArchives Maybe if you hadn't digressed into Shelby territory for so long. I do enjoy your Great Cars series though.
I don't know why James Bond and the DB5 was not even mentioned.
Crappy video production
Was denken Sie als Kaiserin mit Solcher Extras ohne Farben gibt............?
The DB4 looks so much like the Maserati 3500 GT...or even the Ferrari Berlinetta...
Shelby did not build a cobra, he modified an AC ace!
Shoddy research by these video makers
Michael Loach
And also the so called gt40, a British Lola race car....simply because the Americans didn't have the know how to build a good race car...
@@rogerhearn7109 That's why Ford try to buy Ferrari back in the '60's. They just don't like losing (see the donald)! All the best..........
who IS the narrator?? sounds awfully familiar - Terence Stamp??
Reg Abbiss, former BBC correspondent sounds like Sean Connery.
antigen4 I think he sounds like Terence Stamp too.
Utterly disappointing!
As an AMOC Event Chair, and owner/restorer, your video spent far too much time on Mr. Shelby, whilst missing two of the most beloved and famous models: The Most Famous Car in the World: the DB5, and the William Towns masterpiece, the DBS, also used in a Bond film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." That design was the staple chassis and body from 1967-1989! How could you miss that? No mention of Harold Beach, Tadek Marek, Dudley Gershon, nor William Towns! Loads of other disappointed viewers.
The DB5 is so popular that the Bond producers used her in subsequent films, including the newest 2019 Bond 25 installment.
How could you skip the DB5?
Heresy!! Blasphemy!!
Personally, I'm glad that the producers of this video avoided Bond and the DB5 entirely. Those are well-known to the point of being cliche, especially in a documentary such as this.

People who refer to the DB5 and DBS have never owned one.
Betcha £1,000,000.
@@thomasmulhall4873 Will a Sunbeam Alpine and a complete collection of the James Bond films on CD suffice? In all seriousness though, I do have quite a bit of respect for Aston-Martin. One of the few British marques to escape the Thatcher era.
In case you're wondering, the car I do own and love is a 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk. She's no bit of Warwickshire, but she's a lovely thing with a great story too.
If the doco was 60mins, perhaps other subject matter would have been discussed.
Wer will zum Kaiserin werden bitteschön............................?
Really? Who parks an Aston outside, let alone while snowing? Lol
Made me cringe when the idiot doesn't even warm it up and defrost the windshield. Then he hits the wipers, covered in snow, scraping the blades over the ice. He should be booted in the balls for that....
Nice cars,lousy commentary
Aluminum engine? The narrator is English! Its Aluminium! It really winds me up!
Wow, no mention of the DB3, which James Bond drove in Goldfinger. It was the first time I'd heard of Aston Martin
Bond drove a DB-5 in "Goldfinger" ( it was brand new at the time ). It's very strange there is no mention of it - it was the ultimate gadget vehicle !
nrken1 No, the DB5 was the James Bond car. I saw it at the New York auto show in 1965 and actually got to sit in it at age 13. Something I will never forget. Yes, I have photos in the car!
Aston Martin has never been all too impressive they don't have any very original designs philosophies or characteristics for the longest time their cars resemble bars of soap. Today Aston Martin is once again chasing the tail end of the high-end manufacturers they are extremely far behind and technology manufacturing and deployment of new cars that the public is willing to buy at premium prices
My team panda bear zoo team 23
Quality my arse 😂 Astons are known for being unreliable af (pardon my french)
Aston Martin, you know you're gonna end up pushing it, ford based design... Enough said. #sheds
The icky crown preclinically seal because sparrow thermodynamically check till a overjoyed soap. lucky, shivering piccolo
