It's interesting how some people argue with him about his ideas instead of asking clarifying questions. (are those asking question also psychologists?)
Emergence is clearly defined. When something new is found in the interactions between elements that was not present in the separate elements, that new thing or process is said to emerge. It is not mysterious. Sloppy thinkers may use it as a cop out; emergence becomes the homunculus. I get the impression that Prof. Gazzaniga is skating very close to the edge, but I don't think he has gone over.
@DxsPro I think it's one thing to say that consciousness and free will is an unknown emergent property of the particular organization of brain constituents, but to deny this yet claim freedom emerges only at the level of society strikes me also as a total cop out and just illogical.
wheres the last video? But i think emergence is just a cop out, as in though, it all happens because of some 'special emergence'. And why does social aspects matter to consciousness.. if someone was alone they wouldnt really be free? Isnt the brain just a reactionary thing, inputs and outputs.. ie cause and effect with the material world?
Ever run into a person and had a conversation only to realise hours later this conversation was a near duplicate of the one you had with the same person four months ago? What amounts to a back and forth s - r chain between two people? Do androids dream of electric sheep? yes we do.
Determinism sometimes takes on the form of a modern "God of the Gaps". While still compelling and certainly grounded in material reality, to account for everything as "well must've been an antecedent" seems at times brutish and non-fallible.
Also the analogy on cars and traffic was really bad, as most traits in traffic are caused by people and their brains, only very little by tech in cars.
@@edvardm4348 Indeed. Moreover, traffic is influenced by the geography of the area; the shape, length, structural integrity, and number of lanes of each road; the hours at which shops and businesses open and close; the weather; and a plethora of other variables I’m failing to name.

What are these patients...
He gets approximately all the physics wrong.
Good thing we have you to point it out in a very constructive manner. Thank you for your wonderful insights.
