Good editorial. I agree with comments on the EX CJI. In the last leg of his tenure , he was totally in a retiring mood and mode, where he uttered statements in the press which made him to feel shy for bring a cynosure in the digital media.
We need to be blamed for projecting him to be unbiased and believing that his judgment will take care of life and freedom of the people. Finaly he proved to be another retiring judge awaiting for cushy position from the government. "Quid pro quo "

The True of Measure of a Judge is NOT what he says in seminar or farewell function. It is the Judgement he or she delivers, which matters. A Spineless wont become a Giant just by speaking eloquently in seminar/public function.

Sujith Nair is absolutely right. CJI retired disappointed Indians. Electoral Bond judgement is like returning money to a pickpocket. Manipur he didn't act, left at the mercy of the Govt to freely divide. He all the more disappointed by inviting a divisive figure at his residence during such an auspicious occasion called Ganapathy Puja. Also felt disappointed when SC Bar Association President praised him with a poem which was not real Kapil Sibal which was not expected from such a fine human being otherwise. Forget all, let us hope CJI Sanjiv Khanna do something in six months which is not a short period for judiciary to restore it's lost pride.

Did the CJI think the observations by journalists were personal? And he calls them trolls! Am very disappointed with his answers. He did not address a single point raised by journalists and from the legal fraternity. I was one among those who had very high hopes and felt bitter. Your small introduction to new CJI was enough for the readers to read between the lines. All we powerless commoners can only have hope and keep the faith. Jai Hind

The impression was that DY Chandrachud, when he was appointed as CJI, would make a lot of difference in the highest Seat of the Judicial System of the country.
But, as the days went by, the reality stared in the face of many that he was no different from others in the system.
It was not enough to declare the Electoral Bonds as unconstitutional. He did not did take up the Electoral Bonds case through to a realistic conclusion. Ultimately, it was the people of the country who were terribly let down.
The same thing happened with regard to the banning of EVMs, before the General Election 2024.
Manipur case should have been taken as Suo Moto, end DY Chandrachud should have intervened. But he did not.
Of course, there was the case of Ganesh Puja in his own home. And we know the aftermath of it..
In the end, we can only remember DY Chandrachud aa a good talker, but no good doer.

Exactly.. I was also highly disappointed because at first he seemed very good and just...and reflected as a fare person as a Judge. Chief More the reason !!!
If he mingles with the political people.. how can a common man get impartial Judgment...
Religious practices are a very personal matter... One cannot mingle the two.. especially if the office is connected to giving a fare Judgment.. more so for the Chief 😜
Normally the common man goes to the PM for favour.. is it not obvious now.?.But here the PM goes under any prediction
And visits the Chief Justice..What is the common man to understand in this case...

Excellent editorial Sujit Sir, all high level expectations were belied in the case of CJI Chandrachud . He legalized majoritarianism like communal hate speech is not risky whereas other speech is. He used discretion over timing and there was no control on use of agencies. His score of dubious judgments overtakes those of good ones. Our faith in the court became weaker.

Our beloved prophet had given us the knowledge about it through the holy scriptures. We only afraid of the judgement of almighty allah. We were taught not to be scared of any human beings in this world. There was in justice in Iraq. Afghan Bosnia Somalia Syria Palestine and many other countries in the world including India. So we are passionately and curiously waiting for the true justice from the absolute power. Sir I truly appreciate your heartfelt analogy and impartial journalism.
