Problematic Roller Coasters - Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain - World's Weirdest Coaster
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 июл 2024
- Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain may just be the world's weirdest roller coaster. The attraction is a conversion of an old dark ride into a tight and compact wooden roller coaster! The experience the coaster delivers to riders is completely bizarre! But the ride also comes a long with a list of operational issues that we'll discuss in this video! No issues that pose any danger to riders of course but definitely some interesting stuff!
Thank you Eiam Staples for making this video possible! Eiam is son of Gene Staples, the man who bought Indiana Beach when its prior operator went bankrupt. Give Eiam a follow on instagram! He has even more behind the scenes photos of Lost Coaster! - @stapleseiam

To people from Indiana watching the video, I’m now well aware that the city is pronounced “‘monti-sello” lol
For real, that was botched pretty badly!
@@governor7203 Not really if you consider that the other Monticello, the one people actually know, is pronounced the way he did. It would have only been bad if he pronounced it a third way, unlike the pronunciations currently used.
Maybe pass this along: If they filled the car(s) metal tubing with molten lead.. it would add a pretty good amount of mass to the car(s). Simply drill a few small holes, and pour in, with a custom metal funnel. Weld any holes closed, and nobody would ever be the wiser.
If there are places where bolts pass through, they could inject a high-temp material before and after the bolt areas, to prevent lead from traveling to those areas. That, or drill out the areas, and weld in metal pipe "spacer / bearing" pieces. (bolt pass throughs, similar to a welded-in nut, but without the threading)
Another option, would be a 1" thick steel plate as an undercarriage riser, or under-seats platform mass, and or flooring riser mass.
Yes, many towns are not Montichello but are Monticello
Tippy-canoe had me laughing as well. Is just pronounced Tip-a-canoe
Whoever thought of turning a dark ride into an indoor wooden roller coaster has a literal galaxy brain
I wonder if you still have to maintain the indoor wood track always wondered why they don’t make wood coasters indoors?
@@kevinthompson6986 they can mildew in the high humidity of the Midwest. Also harder to work on indoors and with how much constant maintenance is required for wooden coasters, indoor would be a nightmare.
@@sdoogan90 yeah but carpenter bees can burrow in the out in the open IMO they were burrowing in my deck roof

"And for those who don't know: A *block zone* is a section of track..."
SAY THE THING!
I need it on a t shirt now…
I love hearing about block zones, and I’ve ridden the first coaster that used them.
It's like the coaster equivalent of "-emia means presence in blood"
I cheered
A quite humorous thing about the skeleton on the lift hill. Sometimes, it'll reference nearby food-stands, asking the riders to get him something from there, ending with something like "Wait, where are you going? The stand is the other way!"
Does he have a name? They should name him 😂
@@JustHereForCatsI like to call him ‘Mr. Bones’
This is like my dream coaster. I'm scared of heights, can't do inversions, but I still love the thrill of the ride. And a small, eccentric wooden coaster like this is perfect. I hope I get a chance to ride this someday!
Me too! Everything is so extreme these days, it's hard to find enjoyable rides. Would love to ride this one.
You may also like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad it seems way bigger than it really is. It's a super quirky themed ride that he has also done a video on and is just an absolute blast. I have no problems with really big coasters but to be honest I actually really prefer the smaller themed coasters because I think that they're just more fun.
It sounds like you like family coasters. Not too high, no inversions but gets up to good speeds and has some cool elements. Maybe you should look at family parks
@perebima those are so over the top kiddy tho, and adult parks are over the top extreme😂
The fact that you would take time to promote quirky rides and smaller local parks on your biggest RUclips series that's loved by the general public is really appreciated.
This could very well be the biggest promotional tool Indiana Beach will get all year, and it's a park that deserves plenty of love!
Without question, my favorite Problematic Coasters video so far.
I'm a Hoosier and I would never expect Indiana Beach to be talked about on a semi-big roller coaster channel. I just didn't think it would've been special enough. still love it tho.
Never heard of this place til this video and now I wanna go! Lol

@@Turkeyslam Turkey Islam 🦃 ☪️
I want to plan a trip specifically to see this. I love when rides or parts of them are kept in some way instead of being completely gotten rid of.
Boy this sucker looks like a pain to run! Props to the owner's son for helping with this video, really cool footage and info here.
and for those who do not know, a block zone is a section of track where only one train may occupy. At the end of each block zone is a way to stop a train. this is the safety system which prevents roller coasters from colliding with each other.
How did i do, I tried to remember it from memory😏
That spiel is my default ringtone for any caller. My quality of life has drastically improved since I made it that.
RCT belives you.
Love it! Yeah coaster peeps.
I love that this is becoming a thing.
We went to Indiana beach last Friday thru Sunday. We rode Lost Coaster on Friday. It broke down about halfway thru Saturday & was back up Sunday afternoon. I hadn't been to Indiana Beach since I was a kid & I didn't realize it had been converted, so I convinced my wife & small son that this ride was tame & that it would be "easy peasy". oops
You sir are awesome. Ha!
I can just imagine how that must've been to you, you were expecting a dark ride and got a dark ride/ roller coaster hybrid that is one of the weirdest rides that seems to exist.
Lol sounds like such a “dad-move” I hope you all had fun regardless. (-:
ROFL - total 'Dad move'.... I just hope they were facing forward at least & not in those backwards-facing seats!
We’d love a Hades Problematic Roller Coaster episode!
We'd love ANY problematic rollercoaster episode lmao
@@mileyhanna6987 I just need more Problematic Roller Coaster episodes
I’ll have many more on the way! I think I’ll do Hades next
YESSSSSSS! Research the accidents that have happened at Mt Olympus too (there are none for Hades I believe), but the park definitely has a rocky history
@@ElToroRyan could you consider maxxforce? the ride is very unreliable and it would be cool to know more about how it works and why its so unreliable…
Great to see this place getting a surge of attention. You've convinced me to go for the first time ever tomorrow.
Update: Got stuck on brake 4. Steel Hawg is awesome.
I went last weekend and was half way through the line when they had an elevator rollback, was shut down the rest of the day ; ( they only had 1 train running.
@@supremefan They normally only have 1 train running for most coaster at IB, they do not get enough visitors to "warrant" additional trains and most of the rides are pretty short. I do like this coaster but the average wait seems to be about 40-45 minutes at IB you can hit about 4~5 rides during the wait time.
@@GLJosh It was busy enough to warrant 2 trains on Saturday for sure. Steel Hawg operated with 2 trains, any coaster with only 8 seats should have min 2 trains. But I understand with the issues this coaster has that having 2 trains may cause more issues then 1.
@@supremefan Of course, I wish they had two trains running on Mountain. The line is even slower with odd number groups. Overall the park is in MUCH better shape now, under Apex some rides would share operators. I have been a season pass holder for about 3 years now and the improvements are quite apparent.
@@GLJosh Was my first visit since it was my home park back in the 2000 era. I went the year Cornball Express opened but never knew about this gem of a coaster until my kids were old enough to ride coasters. Happy to see it get rescued from a horrible park operator.
Ya ya whichever one you wanna do next, that’s the one we want. Whatever you’re thinking is exactly what we were thinking too! Gosh darn these videos are so enjoyable and educational!
Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain is without a doubt the most unique ride I have ever experienced and I am so thankful that such an oddity still exists.
I would LOVE to see a problematic coaster episode of the Matterhorn at Disneyland. That ride is just so strange and has been through so many changes just in my short lifetime. I've always been curious about how it functions and all the different changes have been implemented, since even today it tends to have issues. Love the series!
I love the "cooperation" with the park for this detailed insider information!
Hey Ryan, mind you if you explained the problematic coaster of Steel Vengeance? I don't know why Cedar Point has love-hate relationship with this
He’s made so many for cp lol
Does that mean we want them to stop 🤣
I plan on making one for it at some point!
Most of the problems have been solved since since 2019.
@@ElToroRyan flying turns needs a problematic coasters video
I love it, repurposed stuff is so neat.
This reminds me a lot of the Ice Mountain Bobsled roller coaster at the Enchanted Forest in Oregon.
Both are fun quirky one off rollercoasters built in the bones of a previous attraction and funny enough both use a no restraint caged ride vehicle with two cars.
I was just thinking that! The visual similarity alone is uncanny, considering how unusual the design is.
I grew up going to Enchanted Forest frequently, and Ice Mountain Bobsleds jumped immediately to mind for me, too.
Hey, I've been there. Lost Coaster is pretty good due to how unique it is. I also didn't know Indiana Beach got saved; I thought it was closed for good. Glad to hear it's still around.
Yes, they got new owners, and this summer was the first in many years that felt enjoyable. It's still not back to it's glory days, and may never be, but the new owners do at least seem to trying to repair and upgrade the place. Which is great.
@@GbHaseo First time here this summer. Steel Hawg was a great ride as was Tiger!! Hoosier Hurricane broke down, but did get one ride on it. Damn, walking up all those steps to get to Cornball and the Hurricane, that too was a first. Overall, a very nice place.
@@timothykaczmarek5871 Those stairs are a pain. I've got a fake knee and hip, and usually half way up, I'm like why I am doing this lol? But then the coasters are fun, and I remember it's worth it. Holiday World in southern Indiana also has some of the best wooden coasters I've been on.
it's a small ride but it's a interesting one as well, it's fun with friends since bumping into friends is less weird then strangers since there is no seatbelt.
I wish there was more rides like this, it's like a coaster + dark ride at the same time
it's not as big as a roller coaster but instead small and intense.
This seems like the Nintendo switch of rollercoasters... It's not trying to be the biggest, fastest or most powerful... but by putting some thought into it and doing something a little different, they've created something that looks like a unique and enjoyable experience that I would like to ride just as much as the big fast ones
I love the RCT ending. Get back to the station in a weird way at a weird angle? just use some s-curves and up/down single sections of track, combined with lift hills on any up sections of track to make it back, lol.
This really does look like a super fun, albeit crazy coaster. I also love how the maintenance bay/storage tracks appear to be in front of the elevator lift at the bottom.
What I love about this ride is seeing the pure surprise & delight on the faces of slightly-jaded coaster enthusiasts in those backwards-facing seats.... in all the onboard footage I've seen they're always giggling like schoolkids as they're tossed around like crash-test dummies! 🙃🤣
I've got no experience with coasters, I personally don't like thrill rides, but I've been dragged to your channel for some unknown reason, do whatever you want, it's always a great experience
"Here's why Lost Coaster is like Millennium Force..." Ryan dropping hard knowledge on us coaster plebs.
Ryan, I have a rollercoaster request. In Ocean City, New Jersey, there are not many interesting rides. One, however, sticks out. It's called Gale Force, and it is a one of a kind launch coaster in Castaway cove on the Ocean City Boardwalk. I think, knowing how many coasters you have ridden, will like this coaster. While you are there, there is a ride called the Great Noreaster in Wildwood, only about 30 minutes away. I hope you enjoy (considering you probably won't see this.) Thank you.
He's definetly ridden both of these before, he's even from New Jersey I believe.
This is the funnest, most compelling coaster I have seen in years! No gimmicks, just an honest ride doing the very best it can. HOW HAVE I MISSED THIS?
We need a flying turns and x2 for a future problematic coasters episode
X2 could be an hour long special
Flying turns from Knoebels, right? That darn coaster never seems to be open! I go to that park at least once a year (relatively local) and I swear I've never seen it operating.
It looks like something from RCT2!
So glad Indiana beach got saved even though I've only been there once.,Being from Indiana, it's painful to hear Monticehello. Monti cell o. Don't expect you to know that though. Keep up the good work! 😁
I kept hearing him pronounce it with the CH and not the S sound and thought “ We are not that fancy up here in NW Indiana to have a MontiCHello, lol”
@@hz4119 only people from Indiana will probably pick up on it 😂
As soon as I heard him pronounce it, I was saying it the way I've said it too.
And no comment on Tippycanoe?
@@swadewade82 true, I say it is tip a canoe and not tippy like he was saying. But the Monticello mispronouncation was more prevalent since he said the city multiple times.
Your mix of really technical details for us enthusiasts and then more simplified information and explanations for the GP is perfect. I love the effort you put into these videos. I haven't been to a park since 2019. I really want to go back to cedar point because last time I was there, I rode Mean Streak. Now I wanna ride Steel Vengeance.
Again, I love the content you've been making. Whatever problematic coaster you wanna showcase next, you do it. Because I know I'm going to enjoy it!
I would definitely love to see a problematic video about Hades!
this just looks like a genuine good fun ride. stats arent everything and this just looks like a total blast. lets go to Indiana Beach 👍👍👍
Monticello, Indiana is actually pronounced with an 's' sound. Mont-uh-sell-oh
I was coming to say this.
@@stephanieschuetz5222 lol. Me too
And Tippecanoe is tip-uh-cuh-noo
Thats how the locals pronounce it but its correct pronounciation is from its name sake the home of Thomas Edison.
@@Mabidemonstrations Thomas Jefferson*
Ahh yes block zones, never gets old no matter how weird the coaster is
instead of problematic rollercoasters, you should do something like best coasters that operate like a gem and are pretty much perfect from an operational standpoint
It would just be a B&M review series.
@@BoomerangVillage Right, well except maybe the wings and flyers, but B&Ms for sure. GCI's seem to be uber reliable too, but just don't have the capacity smooth ops like a B&M.
I rode this less than a week ago for the first time! I absolutely loved it. I rode backwards in the front and it was an EXPERIENCE.
It's cool to see a video about Indiana Beach, it's a very small park but has a lot of personality. I think I only ever rode Lost Coaster once, as the ride was often closed and when open seemed to always have a long line. I'm glad you gave a shoutout to the Cornball Express which was my personal favorite ride there.
If I worked at Indiana Beach, I’d talk to The Gravity Group about putting in another block zone before the elevator lift hill to run 3 trains and put drive tires in the places it tends to valley, that are activated by a system of sensors connected to timers that determine that the train is going slow enough to valley. If the train is going slow enough to valley, the drive tires are activated and push the train along.
I'd love for any of the coasters at Indiana Beach to run more than one train at a time. All the coasters are running one train each right now (I was there about two weeks ago)
Ok, I had been thinking about adding Indiana Beach to my list of parks to eventually visit. This video not only put it on that list, but near the top of that list.
That coaster is definitely a unique looking ride.
Of course, the video isn't complete without a section about block zones.
Plz do hades, that is a great ride for it. I also believe lightning rod has been around long enough and had had enough problems for its own video too.
I live to hear Ryan talk about block zones
I've been waiting for this one! Thorough, easy to follow and understand. Well done, Ryan.
Lost Coaster is was more intense then it looks, miss this ride! Fun riding with y'all!
Hahaha riding in the cages was wild!! That was an awesome day at the park
Such a fun & unique ride! So glad this got saved. Really loving the problematic coaster series you're doing!
This must be one of the best 'documentary' of roller coasters. It is certainly the best, most detailed and comprehensive I have come across so far.
Really looking forward to this, I love that you did an in depth video on this ride.
Fantastic video man! Your love and passion for coasters and their history spills over to us to enjoy brother.
Ahh so it's the lost coaster because it's gonna valley in the mountain
Amazing video, as always Ryan!! This looks like a really unique ride.
A Hades 360 PRC video would SLAP! So would a Lightning Rod one. And yes I learned something new today😃
So happy you posted a problematic video, I have missed these so much!!
On rollercoasters a block zone is a section of ride that only one train may occupy at a time. At the end of a block zone there is a method to stop the train, in case the block zone ahead is still occupied. This is the safety system that prevents rollercoaster trains from colliding with one another.
Good job class
Gosh this ride seems so weird and charming!! I’d love to ride it someday! Big Props to the Owner’s son for all his help with the video! What a cool topic!
What a amazing video concept! Love all the PRC videos! But I literally beg with all my heart can you please do the Smiler at Alton Towers! It’s my home park and quite infamously has had an extremely rocky history!
Yes yes yes I can’t get enough of your “problematic “ series ,completely coaster drug info that always leaves me satisfied
This is absolutely fascinating. I was hooked the entire video. Nice work.
Your Problematic Coaster videos are some of the most entertaining and informative videos on any medium.
This was such a good vid! I love the unique ones, keep them coming.
Came for the block zone lesson, was not disappointed
A video on Hades would be worth it. And whoever got the task of converting this thing from a dark ride into a coaster deserves an award. Seriously, those tight turns and trying to work with the existing mountain must've been a pain in the butt but they persisted and made this amazing looking ride.
Oh I click every video hoping you talk about block zones. I always forget the definition and hope I get a refresher every video!!!
Love it!!!!
I think Hades would need an entire Problematic Theme Parks video...
great video Ryan. Love learning about these rides, keep up the great work
Love your vids Ryan, seriously the best rollercoaster content on youtube
Well this is a pleasant surprise to see a local theme parks this series! Very well done video! Unfortunately, every time I’ve gone to IB, it’s been running and I couldn’t ride LOCOSUMO
Another great video as always! A hades 360 video would be amazing! I’d also like to see a problematic coasters on X2 (or other 4D coasters) as those seem to have plenty of issues themselves
I absolutely love this series, I would love to see one on Powder Keg from Silver Dollar City at some point as I have worked that ride and it is an utter mess. 3 Train operation will never be possible again even though it was originally supposed to be able to. Along with a ton of other problems that the ride faces daily. Love all the videos, keep it up!
So happy to see a video on a park I grew up at. This coaster was my favorite and still is. :)
That was awesome to see clips of the original dark ride! I always wondered what it looked like.
What an amazing video! I’ve learned more from this video about coasters than ever before. Your narration is entertaining and very informative. Just subscribed and hit the bell.😉👍🏻
Great video and I love your content. So good to see IB make it to your channel. I grew up going to this park many times every summer as a kid and rode the OG ride many times. Always was one of my favorites. The old haunted house was always fun too!
BTW, it’s pronounced Mon-ti-sell-o😁
Always happy to see my home park featured. I do remember that on the original ride, there was a train that would pop out of a door at the last turn, always terrifying me as a kid. You can still see it, but it doesn’t pop out any more. I can’t remember if they kept the sound effect that played.
This is high on my US bucket list and I’m so happy that Indiana Beach is still open so more people can ride it!
Another BANGER! 🔥 You should do a Problematic Coasters of 2021- just wrap them all up into one problematic year of coasters 🤷♂️👍
I can't believe it's only 1,400 ft in track length but so long in duration.
I knew the CCI crew. I never got to meet Charles Dinn, but knew his daughter. Lost Coaster IS on my "bucket list" to ride. Great video! I'm glad you got to ride it.
Great vid ryan! I want whatever what they were smoking when they were designing this ride!
Love this ride so much. Really hope it doesn't get removed because of all the problems. Great video!
A friend of a friend got a black eye on this ride just from how much you're thrown around - it's no joke. I did manage to go on it to my first visit a couple years ago and I had no idea about any of its issues or history. This was super neat.
my sibling used to work on this ride. they said it was a nightmare to operate, and they had to call maintenance every hour or so because the train kept getting caught in the tunnel
This looks like it would be my favourite ride if it were local. What a sweet little ride. Quirky, funky and unique. I love it.
To see one of my most favorite rides featured in a video tickled me so much. Big recommendation as a Hoosier who has been on ot at least once every visit to Indiana Beach 💜
Would be so stoked to see a Problematic Roller Coaster video on a Hershey Park coaster! Another awesome video in the series thanks man
I rode this for the first time a few weeks ago and it’s one of the greatest coasters ever made! You have to hang on tight because if no one’s sitting next to you, you’ll be thrown hard side to side. The airtime caused my head to hit the the netting.
i live about an hour away from Indiana Beach and i've ridden this one countless times, I love it!
Glad to see this series back!
I would love to see the hades problematic coaster video!
I'd absolutely love for this series to visit my home state, whether it be the innovative history of the Chance Toboggan, the two sides of Zippin Pippin, or how Hades 360 became the world's ultimate parking lot coaster
Hades 360 problematic coaster would be just... Yes.
Awesome video as always. Always informative. One day you should come to Australia and review the rides there
Loving eltoro ryans uploads recently maaaaaaangs
Love this series! Can't wait for this!
Ahh needed a block zone refresh!! That's why you build a dueling elevator lift folks... but size constraints were the issue here
I would love to see a video on Hades 360! Mt. Olympus is my home park! I got excited when you started talking about CCI and Gravity Group in this video like hey i know them!
Great info as always!! Wooden Warrior also has a 35’ height and is fantastic!!!
Okay! So this is at Indiana beach! When I saw the thumb nail I was like wait a minute I’ve seen this before! I live in California now so wow you really brought the memories back! My little brothers went on this but my mother and I went to the little shop next door to get fudge lol
Dude that park looks AWESOME! I want to ride that some day, looks like a lot of fun! 😎
Cool video dude I really enjoyed , cool to stumble upon !
That was really informative. I rode Lost Coaster in ‘06 and it was truly bizarre.
LCOSM is a seriously kick ass roller coaster. I've been riding as a hobby since 1980 and this is one of the most unique coasters I've ever been on (among 700). My issues with this video is liking LCOSM above Cornball Express (one of my top five wood), and the focus on statistics. Stats mean nothing when it comes to thrills. Phoenix, for instance, which I was responsible for saving, has unimpressive stats, but is consistently voted the best wood coaster in the world. Wonderful, fantastic video! Thanks!
