Glad you liked it. I enjoyed doing it. Gotta prep for this May's 31 on 31 now but I'll be back with the 1940's as soon as I'm ready.

My personal ranking (I haven't seen Great Ziegfeld yet):
    10. Cavalcade - 2/5
    9. The Broadway Melody - 2.5/5
    8. Wings - 3.25/5
    7. Grand Hotel - 3.5/5
    6. Mutiny on the Bounty - 3.5/5
    5. It Happened One Night - 3.5/5
    4. Cimarron - 3.5/5
    3. The Life of Emile Zola - 3.75/5
    2. All Quiet on the Western Front - 3.75/5
    1. You Can't Take It with You - 4/5

Wow, really surprised by some of those placings! Especially Zola being so high, with Bounty and Hotel in the bottom half. Nice to see Cimarron getting some love though. That film seems to be universally panned and I just don't get it at all.

@@BryanLomax Everything from 7 to 4 was kinda up in the air, I gave them all the same score.
I loved the last half of Zola. If not for that half-arsed opening act, it might have been my number one.
It's not the strongest of decades though, I'm looking forward to the 40s which is low-key one of my favorites

I agree with your ranking, but I don't agree with all of the Academy's choices for best picture of 1929 - 1939 era, except maybe Grand Hotel and It happened One Night. I would pick a completely different list of best movies for that era, starting with a great 1929 sound film Applause by Rouben Mamoulian, followed by an outstanding 1930 prison drama The Big House by George Hill etc etc. There were so many great movies during Pre-Code era and after the Hays Code introduction of 1934. Sadly, I don't see their greatness reflected in the Academy's picks.

Well I've reviewed each of these movies in the past few weeks. Been making my way through every best picture winner. So I will be doing the 40's next, followed by a ranking video.
