Hah, man, you’ve noticed it! Look, this trick looks kinda simple, but for me it so much solved the problem in the signal chain inside of the upside down Palette case, yo! I love it! I appreciate you kicking in ✌️
Thanks for another great vid Ihor. I always look forward to your vids. that new feature on the digi, is defiantly a little bit of a game changer. makes my urge to by an octatrak harder to justify... (but still justifiable :P )
@@IhorMedia interesting, i would like the live looping would be a key feature that the OT can offer, but at 1/2 the price maybe sacrifices can be made. :P
@@edmuggles well, they both have their pros and cons. And also they serve a different purpose. The Octatrack certainly wins when it comes to performing with external gear. Now with this mixer in the Digitakt it also plays well, but I would say not even close to what OT offers. However Digitakt is a little better when it comes to finishing tracks, since it has overbridge, and the OT does not. And the Overbridge lets you record audio from the mixer as a separate track, I believe. But basically I can go on and on with this “look ot has this, but dt has that” thing 😁 Think of what you really need for your particular setup ✌️
Just picked up a Behringer k2, wanted a noisy squelchy synth. Would love to get into module if my pocket book stretched that far. Still trying to figure out how to get similar basslines and acid sounds with just stand alone synths. Awesome video, love the end result
Hey Chad! Thanks for kicking in! ✌️ Well, there are many different synths that do ACID sound. I am thinking to get Avalon or Erica Synth Bassline (module or synth) to have it just for acid purposes. But these things are expensive for sure. This particular bassline is just a square wave from analog oscillator that goes through the filter with resonance set to kinda high value.
Excellent stuff as always. Your channel convinced me to buy a Digitakt myself (and maybe soon a octatrack). Damn you ;-) @Ihor Have you found a way to duck the bass coming into the external input triggered by a kick from Digitakt? Sidechain compression only for external input? The new 1.30 sidechain compressor is a master compressor only 😞 Been researching all day already
If you find the way - tell me please! Since there is a master compressor, there is no straightforward way. One way I can think of is to exclude the kick drum from being routed to master (in DT settings), set the master compressor sidechain to listen to that kick drum and "duck", then multitrack monitor/record via Overbridge. In that way you can get your kick drum back as a separate track. Thanks for your kind words! I appreciate you!
Proper lights down techno! Damn damn damn. but what I don't understand about going hardwarer is not having the convenience of daw features lol ke effects on every sound; some u may or may not use , like eq. I notice How well this sounds, is that purely coincidence? I always get lost when taking a sketch like this and making it a full mixed track, and that's with plenty of tools in my daw. How dies this souund so good yet little to no mixing or sound sculpting?
First of all thanks for your comment! I am glad you liked the tune! ✌️ Well, I don’t consider these tracks as fully finished. Rather sketches or jams. Why they sound good? It is not coincidence. I think it is all about trusting your ears. My personal opinion, if you wish: people started overthinking music production. People stuck with all these endless “should I tune my kick” and “how to eq your snare” videos. Instead of making music. Instead of playing music. Especially when it comes Techno. How was Techno made back in the days? Right! 909, tape and synths. Raw and dirty perhaps. Detuned and without any western music scale. This is how I think of it. It must be minimal. It must flow. It should slap your ass! What inspires me to do that on hardware vs daw - is exactly those limitations of the hardware boxes. DAW is kinda too heavy for this. At least for my taste. Hope that makes sense. And I am not against the DAW by any means. To make a good track I’d sketch it on hardware and the take it into the DAW to finish. And utilize all the benefits of eqs, filters, effects and stuff. I am actually planning some DAW content on this channel too! Stay tuned!
Another Ace tutorial with another Pallette case, are u running modular via Midi from DT,can u use Sequencer in DT and send to modular as well as having a Drum as backing from DT ???? I’ve now got Mimetic and Steppy in small Pallette but not UMidi 1U as new one is different to old UMidi which had Run missing on new smaller UMidi??? I need something to do resets , not many modules have reset out, plenty with inputs, only 1UMidi and PamsW/O 2 and my Polyend Poly 2 dosnt do resets??? Your advice invaluable as always Cheers Ihor your friend Martin
Hey Martin! Thanks for watching! Q: Can you use DT MIDI Sequencer to send to modular as well as having drum tracks? A: Of course you can! There are 3 different things you send into modular: clock, transport and notes (pitch and gate). Clock and transport do not even require any track or channel for that. To send MIDI Notes you have to use one of the MIDI tracks (9-16) which are separate from audio tracks. Q: MIDI 1U misses the Run output A: It has either run, or reset on the same output. You can reconfigure it easily by connecting to a computer and running their configuration app. Q: I need something to do resets A: I use steppy for resets. Clock the Steppy. Grab one of the 4 channels, set 1 trig at the beginning of the sequence. Done. You can even change how often reset happens. Maybe you want it every 12 steps? Sure! Q: Polyend Poly 2 dosnt do resets? A: I didn't even know that! But you can do something similar. Grab one of the gate outputs and and do same thing I described above about steppy. The only difference that you have to now send that 1 first trigger from the one of the MIDI tracks from DT. Cheers! Hope that helps!
Haha! Thanks for your kind words! On the Palette I have some mixed filings. It might be the batch, but I find it a little worse quality that 62hp. Mults for example. They are not the same quality that were in 62hp. However having a little bigger case is good and I find myself not changing it that much anymore. I am planning to record a few tracks with it at least without putting modules out.
@@IhorMedia nice to hear. I've been looking at this one for a while. Between this and the Make Noise 3U skiff. I'd like the 62hp palette but it's just so much money for the size.
@@MrMarcLaflamme yeah, it is kinda expensive, hence I have an expectation of a top noch quality. While this expectation was fulfilled completely with 62HP, it wasn’t as much with 104HP. However I still think that it is a good case! ✌️
the fact you need trigger something to enable efects for audio input is not bug.. it's same on digitone (and i think on octa and other elektron machines too) so i guess it's something deeper in whole firmware architecture which has some reason and it is not possible to "fix" ...
@@IhorMedia it may be something with CPU optimisation - to save CPU when pattern is not playing .. i am developer too, so i can imagine it's some bad decision from early stage of firmware development, which is now ultra-complicated to change without large code re-write
the reason why the effects aren't activated unless there's a trigger is because the effects get turned off when you double tap the stop button. Since they're send effects they just behave the same as the rest of the digitakt ... so it's not a bug, I'm so sorry
@@Hrotti yes it is, and I have no issues with that hard stop. But if I press play again - the effects still wouldn’t work until I engage any trigger. And this seems like a bug to me for sure.
This one is a tough question, Lance. Long story short: even though it seems like DT overlaps with OT nowadays I still consider OT to be "Ableton of Dawless setup" with live performance in mind, while DT is an extremely capable groovebox / sampler. DT overall is way much easier and straightforward, while OT is much more complex and much more capable. OT has more effects, DT has better quality effects. DT has a few performance features, OT is made for performance! And I can go on and on. Might be a good idea for a video tho.
This would be a great video. I have the OT. And as you know, its a powerhouse but I find myself not using it to its max level (flex recording etc) and possibly something more straight forward - now that it has the input control might be all I need. All the other routing gives the OT an extreme advantage tho.
@@MONSIEURLANCEDRAKE I agree with you 100% that the OT is a powerhouse and it has many advantages over DT when it comes to audio routing and recording. I think of the OT as end of the chain in the setup, you know. While DT is a part of the chain. And now having mixer on it helps to be that part of the chain. But not necessarily the end of it. Hope that makes sense.
A Metropolix ánd a Digitakt... I know the Metropolix is a bit more easy to 'dial in' a sequence, but when you don't have one, a midi to cv/gate module could give you the same result and do the sequence on the Digitakt.
