Definitely the whole point with the fire starter chimney is to not use lighter fluid. I've used the round non collapsible ones for years. You can also cook directly on top of the chimney starter. If you need a really intensely hot flame for like wok cooking. Excellent product. Great job on the video
We just saw this at our friends house and if you keep it in the open you can actually put your feet on the rail below and it keeps your legs and feet warm too!

I bought one from Rural King about a year ago we used it this year for the first time very impressed it’s great if you want to cook on all natural wood fire,,,and then you could swing the grate away and have it as a fire pit,,,,and it works great both ways,,,,Like I say though I got mine at Rural King for $149.99 and they let me have the demonstrator model that was already pre-assembled at no extra charge

Hello there! I just picked up one of these firepit grills for hubby and we're both loving the idea ya'll had with having the blocks around it. It seems like it not only looks nice, but could also make it a li'l bit safer for dogs or kids. I'm trying to figure out how blocks to get by counting up that top row. Could you please help by giving me a count? Also, did ya'll use that fire pit glue stuff?
Thats the beauty of the chimney starters they light the coals in about 10 mins and know more fuel taste or smell. Find your self tumble weed fire starter very cheap Home depot has them and BJ wholesale club it takes 2 tumble weed starter pieces to light the charcoal. They are called tumbled weed because they look like tumble weed. They are made out of straw I think.
Burnt newspaper can fly all over when you dump the lit charcoal. I use the white waxy compressed Weber starters. One will light the charcoal and disappear
Great video... I know it's 2 years old since posted but I just received this pit for Christmas. But it didn't come with the charcoal attachment or a protective cover.. Theere seems to be no drain holes so I will have to drill a few and somehow spray protect to prevent rust from the drilled areas. How many bricks did you use to surround the out I plan on doing the same.
Maybe I should have asked the manufacturer, do they sell the spark screens for this when not in cooking mode?? Thanks again, Loved the video and advice. Helped me a lot. I just live in the middle of a highly wooded area and I am fearful of sparks flying out. Thanks again!!
I do not recommend this fire pit. It looks great brand new. However, we used it for one season and it rusted through because the sides are mesh and not solid. The top of the pit is leaning and now unusable. I posted my review to the Lowe’s site with photos if you want to see.
Just wanted to leave a comment here and say that our is still holding up just great. Maybe a little bit of rust here and there. We'll probably just spray paint it at some point. We've cooked on it maybe 2 dozen times and had great results. Too bad you had that experience my friend. Wonder what it could be about the climate or maybe construct of the one you purchased that made your experience so different from mine. Ours came with a cover that we used the first year. I guess that helped some, but the wind eventually tore holes in the cover and we discarded. It's been a nice bit of yard gear for us.
I bought one of these from a local hardware store 18 months ago. The fire ring is completed rusted out. No response from BigHorn's customer service about a replacement.

I even drilled drain holes in the bottom of the fire ring because there wasn't any type of drainage on the bottom of the pit. No matter what, an outdoor fire pit that is meant to be outdoors shouldn't rust out in a year and a half.

No they will not rust if you care for them properly. All metal objects that you'll grill on will rust the same if you don't take care of them. It's essential that you remove ash from the grill after it's cooled. Ash is acidic and will quickly rust your grill from the inside out. Also it's important to keep them covered and not in contact with snow or ice at the ground if you keep it up year round. Following these pointers, and occasional touch up with high heat Rust-Oleum at the connection points keeps it functional for years.

You need to preseason your grill before putting food on top. This is remove any chemicals, paint

Did yours come with the cover? We kept it on ours and haven't had any problems. Water does sag in it though, if you don't shake it off after storms.
