Remember to check out his second channel, Giant Grant Games Archives, where you can see his own attempt at this speedrun, and learn about stuff like his commentating for Aces GDQ speedrun in advance!
Absolutely loved the run, and the couch as well! Especially love the little references and jabs/jokes mentioned throughout (def never has a pro lost to hallucinated units… that would be ridiculous!) Thank you GDQ for hosting StarCraft content again!
I've watched a lot of professional StarCraft over the past 20 years but never any campaign speedruns. What I wasn't expecting from this run was the APM 7thAce was hitting in this run, pushing over 300 APM at times is genuinely pro-level. For those unfamiliar with RTS mechanics, just know that this level of play is *extremely* difficult and even 1v1 professionals would likely be very impressed with how tightly thought out the levels are and Ace's high level control. Very cool, I'll be following Ace in the future. Glad to see StarCraft still being relevant to many.
I don't think bursting 300 is quite the same as pros sustaining 300, but I appreciate it all the same! There are a few high apm sections that took a lot of practice to get done properly, but a lot of the run doesn't need quite the high attention that even mid-high ranks need since the AI *usually* doesn't do anything off schedule.
31:24 Yeah, so units in Starcraft can actually face in any of 256 directions, but pathfinding to go anywhere that isn't extremely close is greatly simplified. Normally a unit will choose one of 8 cardinal/interacardinal directions to move within each pathfinding region, which combines with many other very drastic simplifications that cut down the search space for pathfinding to something reasonable. So it's not quite "up then left," it's more like "straight up, then diagonally up-left." That is, "north, then northwest, then north, then northwest," etc. It's actually much more complicated than that over any meaningful distance, but over short distances, you see that sort of pattern pretty often, changing each time it enters a new pathfinding region. This means the path ground units take across the map is usually much longer than the distance as the crow flies, something more like 40% longer in the worst case even without obstructions.
@@Jeff_the_Hobo I'm super late to this, but actually, Grant was unable to do Brood War deathless.... but Ace did it for Zerg at least! (I too thought he was referring to himself, the weirdo

This was so fun to watch and the commentary was hilarious. I played through the broodwar campaign a few months ago, but this makes me want to give speed running it a shot.
The British "Kinder Surprise Egg" is still illegal in the U.S. However, Kinder has introduced another chocolate egg in the U.S., the "Kinder Joy Egg" (already available in a number of countries) that is compliant with American law. It is very different from the Kinder Surprise Egg, with no chocolate egg at all, but rather just the filling and some other stuff in a plastic case. One side of the case is the white chocolate-based filling, and the other is the toy. They are separated by packaging to comply with the law and to save a few toddlers' lives. And they taste surprisingly good, despite the incredibly disappointing appearance when you first open them.
The game design for this game is insanely good, so much player agency while still being clear and simple to understand but with endless depth and optimization
