I visited Sri Lanka last year in November and December and your videos really helped me plan my trip! I landed in Colombo with no plan but your channel provided me with some great tips for places to go. Thank you! My trip lasted for about 45 days and it was so beautiful.
This is a good one. The speaker uses the term "humble" to describe coconut (e.g. "this humble tree"). It's not the tree that is "humble" but the people who makes a living out of coconut, in so many ways. 😊
As an Interracial and Intercaste person and man who is part English,Sri Lankan and Indian race wise and Sinhalese,Telugu,Malayali and Tamilian through my ancestries,I did know about the oldest coconut factory to be formed in our Sri Lanka and the strong agricultural sector is where the country economy is heading to after that disastrous economical and political setback, good friends!!!Hats off to the respective staffs and board of directors for rescuing the nation's agricultural industry through the coconut productions and I am fully hoping to see this see this industry to be saving the environment and respective people's lifestyles to be going back to normal, good friends!!!:-D

You are doing an amazing thing akka. Thank you for giving your homeland a chance, and for being proud of its resources, culture and history. Its sad to see so many young people, especially here in the west, turning out to hate where they come from because the Sri Lankan community abroad doesn't do a great job at cultural exposure for the young generation. Thank you for also going out there, and listening to all the stories of our people and showing off our beautiful and diverse island, and the great potential its people and natural resources to offer. I like that you are always down to learn more than you already know, and are willing to share it with the world. Keep the Lankan content coming! You are doing your ancestors proud.
Love your videos as always❤ just a small thing I noticed.. Sri Lankan parents say that coconut water is as healthy as king coconut water. It is collected to a cup, so it was never gone to waste in our household😂 they make sure we drink it every morning😅
Thank you for doing this type of series! National level Televisions have failed to capture these and many more - only useless talent shows and teledramas. Good job!
Not only the industry, but the coconut grown in Sri Lanka is so unique in nutritional value as well. This is a kind of gifted crop to Sri Lanka. you correctly forecasted the industry value of 2 billion.
Awesome video! ❤ Very informative. It’s important that Sri Lankans learn about all these industries and get inspired to do something similar themselves.
Congratulations Suresh. You have done what Denish multinational company Serendib Coconut or Coconut Research Institute couldn’t achieve. Good luck for you.
Outstanding documentary! We have a hard time getting hold of Sri Lankan products in Canada. There is a demand for coconuts and coconut based products in Canada. Based on the products in the market here, it appears this is fulfilled by other East and South Asian countries. Sri Lankan farmers and villagers in the frontline need the technological and logistics support to so they can reach markets like Canada. There are already few avenues that includes few Sri Lankan-Canadians who are working hard to build these networks. But compared to other Asian countries, I think Sri Lanka still have a long way to go in terms of reaching global markets for many of the products the country has to offer.

What a very interesting and fascinating video! Thank you so much for educating us, Shanella! Loved that idea of growing so many other plants / produce in between the coconut trees. Very impressed with what SILVERMILL is doing and now I am happier than ever that this is the brand of coconut oil that I have been using for quite a while now! 😍
Thanks sister for this fabulous video. Silver mill is a one of a wonderful places in sri Lanka. I recommend their coconut oil. It's so good and gives safety for your meal. Thanks again for this interesting video.
Good to see you again, talking about the coconut industry. Your introduction is not complete unless you introduce the trapeze artist of the coconut toddy industry, walking on the rope tied to several trees, using only experience & balance . He is indeed an athlete, watching him moving from a great height, taking potential risks , like tripping from the rope due to strong winds, not forgetting the strings from wasps who comes to drink toddy and bad weather to name a few.

Really interesting. I remember scraping the coconut for my mum in the UK. Her coconut scraper was a bit different. You had to rotate a handle to scrape the coconut and as you say my mother was very particular about getting every last bit😉
I loved this .its amazing .coconut is so useful and can be used in many ways .most importantly nothing can replace the taste of coconut and coconut milk .Hats off to you for bringing this informative documentary on this highly potential tree
I found your video by chance , and it is indeed , undoubtedly a vivacious , fabulous one which was so compelling that it caused me to repeat it for few times in a row.i have a sweet memory of coconut trees. It is that in my childhood ,i my father made a shed in our garden and thatched it using weaved coconut branches. To tell the truth, we as kids craved to stay inside it , while it was raining. Thank you so much. May your shadow never grow less.
Really inspiring series. Good luck and would like to suggest consider doing another on King Coconut Industry of SL. Which another unique export beverage of SL.
it's great to make this kind of videos to viewers. coconut is one of major crop in Sri Lanka apart with rice. coconut embedded to life of Sri Lankans.. every part of coconut tree are used by citizen and from birth to died coconut is utilized by Sri Lankans. all the best!
Shenelle and Shehan, you make amazing videos about the beauty of Sri Lanka and what people do and live in your country. It's wonderful and it's more than a job. thank you!!!☺❤.
As an ambassador for tourism, you have promoted how good Sri Lanka is . That’s great. Asela Perehara , bring in millions of $ 💰💰💵💵 revenue to Sri Lanka because of the domesticated elephants used in the parade. The ugly truth is so many wild elephants getting cruelly killed , I see this as biggest hypocrisy. Since you an ambassador and seem to come across an influential figure, should take your position to highlight the true nature of the condition of the wild elephants on an episode in RUclips. I think it’s your moral duty to bring this to world/ people and gov attention to implement immediate attention. It’s a shame what’s happening to these elephants 🐘 Writing from Australia 🇦🇺 Don’t delete this comment…
Asela perehara does not bring in millions of dollars for the country. it might have many years ago but it no longer does. this is not a tourist spectacle rather a religous tradition. The Parading of elephants is cruel and something that does need to be stopped immediately. we have been raising awareness on this issue for years now on our social platforms. creating a full video on it would not neccassarily change anything atm, but simply put a massive target on our heads. As 2 individuals (Non-Bhuddhist) living in Sri Lanka and wanting to live in Sri Lanka for the considerable future. this is not a topic we can just speak out about and expect to live freely thereafter. as we have seen time and time again speaking out against the clergy, or any religous affairs in Sri Lanka is by far the easiest way to get exhiled. We are working on the best way to address this issue without making a Channel 4 debacle out of it. the government is well aware. the people are well aware. It is only a matter of time till this stops.
Loved this flog, you are a true ambassador for Sri Lanka. I have a question to ask. As a Trave agent in England that specialises in Sri Lanka and sustainability travel, could I share this flog on my facebook site. I will of course add the coconut museum to Itinerary whenever possible too.
Can you please do a video about King Coconut? since coconut water also very popular where I live - New Zealand, but we Sri Lankan know better that King Coconut water is better in every aspects than coconut water, I think it will be a big income of $s if King coconut water export make popular. There were one or two brand in the market in New Zealand for a little while. But I think the marketing and supply chain failed it. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for an informative video, very well presented too. Look forward to watching more on this topic and other Srilankan products. Iam better informed as a result. Thank you again. O.Silva
Thanks for your time in explaining how valuable the coconut tree is there is a sad story behind this special tree which touches the heart and soul of the poor, now a days every part of the coconut tree is used for industrial purposes, the mass production of each and every part of the coconut tree does helps the industry to boom, the practice of doing mass production for import , the price of a coconut has increased, it is hard to find good coconut oil anymore in Sri Lanka , it is replaced by corn oil, but there is plenty of coconut oil in fancy bottles at Costco for $34 for 2.48lbs. It is another business venture for well to do.
It was an Interesting story of the coconut tree, of course there is a lot more to tell about the tree it self, but it great knowledge and History to learn about the Coconut tree, Thanks for sharing.
Super job. Much needed great idea. Super business insider documentary with international level. All the best. Lets try to cover new international business opportunity areas like coco peat.
Reminds me of Ghana cocoa farmers selling their produce and depleting their land for the chocolate industry, I wouldn't say call this really sustainable farming. I believe SL has to prioritize permaculture and in offering its citizens high nutrition food free of chemicals and with minimal input of energy and labour. Food exports are not a solution to SL wellbeing

Good job done. Thank you for an eye opener. But I wouldn't agree with your comment on throwing away the coconut water and the milk removed coconut shreds. We drink the coconut by collecting it in to a vessel or we make viniger or use it as a livening when making Hoppers and even in cooking vegetables. Also the leftover scrapes are used to clean dirty floors and it will be added for chicken feed.
